Great studio!! The others I looked into were to advanced and to large for my girls. This place is perfect! Their Christmas recital was perfect just their studio and the dance had a story to it. Impact is a pretty good studio, but isn't my favorite. The company is great and their dances are amazing. Although, my daughter recently took classes that are open to anyone and was not a fan. She also was on show stars for a little while but then left the year later. My daughter would come home with a pout face because teachers would yell or talk to her with dis respect. She also said that some teachers would comment on her technique constantly, even though my daughter was 6. I understand technique is a huge part in competitive dance, but this was not ok. My daughter would try to fix it, which I am unsure if she did correctly, but the teachers would not help with her mistakes and would instead embarrass her in front of the group of other girls and boys. Poor communication regarding recitals, costs, and schedule changes/expectations. Quick to take money, strong on not providing refunds. Even while referring to themselves as one of the only studios with "over 1,000 dancers" according to the office manager, they don't have the customer service or business acumen to represent a company typical of that size. Beware of this dance company. I have been trying to drop this since last November. They would like me to come in person to fill out a form to drop this class, even though I am unable to do so (would require that I take a day off work to come in person and fill out a withdrawal form). They have now stopped responding to my emails as asking for alternative solutions, and instead continue to bill me for additional months. It is predatory. I will be reaching out to the BBB to report and hopefully resolve the situation. We decided to drop this because the girls were not enjoying the experience and they teachers were not very engaging. read more

I am very satisfied with the quality of instruction offered here. Unlike other dance studios, the staff is both talented and personable and are able to train their students at a high caliber. I was raised as a dancer and believe that discipline and general caring are equally important components of quality lifelong instruction. The Owner Diane invests in her studios and her dancers and even the parents through team building exercises. I am satisfied with my investment at Impact. read more

we have been coming here for 3 years now. my daughter started when she was three and has had ballet and tap with miss mickey. we are looking forward to her trying new classes now that she is older. this past weekend was the recital. and for the first time, my husband also participated. he danced in the dad's dance. it was a fun experience for us all. we've thoroughly enjoyed the shows. i usually take my daughter to the company dance recital the friday night before the kid performance. and i must say, it is very professional, down to the costumes, and the staging. i don't know of many dance studios for kids that do such a great job. read more

I agree with other reviewers that the communication at Impact Dance Studio is non-existant. If you're looking for a studio that fosters creativity, competition, and fun, this is not the right place for you. There are weird drama, mean dance moms, and catering to certain people differently than others. The politics and drama are real, and it's not a fun time if you're on the outside. It's a really terrible place for young kids who are looking for more advanced options in dance. The main ballet and tap teacher is forceful and rude to the children. My daughter is 5, he would sit kids out, and make them earn their way back into the class by humiliating them and making them do their skills by themselves in front of the class, making an example out of them (again they're 5, in Kindergarten). It's really sad, because the studio has potential, and some really great teachers (specifically for the really young kids, under 5). Once you enter their company program it becomes complete insanity. Spare yourself and find a studio that cares more about loving kids and making sure they love dance, instead of teaching them to resent it. read more

9 months of classes at $56 a month and $17 a ticket for the recital. During many of the performances at the recital they started the dancers' music in the middle of the song and stopped the music leaving these poor kids who had practiced so hard and long just standing there. During my child's performance they turned the stage lights off before the performance was finished. the school gave no apologies or anything. They acted as if nothing happened. I saw more than a couple of kids crying because their big show was ruined. We will not be returning to this school. read more

Our daughter has been taking classes at Impact for three years (since age 3). We are very pleased with the progress she has made under the instruction of Miss Sue. We were blown away by all of the talent at the June recital This summer our son also took Boogie Time, which he enjoyed. I would recommend Impact to anyone! read more

My husband-to-be and I were looking to take ballroom dance lessons for our first dance. I called around the area and found that there were very few places that offered private lessons, specifically for adults. Impact Dance said that they had a person available who be in contact with me. Joanne contacted me about a day later and was more than willing to help us learn some new moves. She asked that we drop off the CD beforehand so she could choreograph a simple routine for us. Since we were a month away from our big day, we had to work hard and practice a lot. The day we met Joanne, she was all set and showed us some simple yet elegant moves that we would have not otherwise thought to do. She was very flexible with what we felt comfortable doing and was willing to take out certain parts or work with us so that the dance we were learning reflected us. My husband-to-be also liked that she did not make the dance too feminine/soft, and he liked that he learned to take the lead. Impact Dance studio was a cute little place off of LaGrange Road. They have a second location in Countryside, but we did not visit it. You have to walk up stairs to get to the dance rooms, and one of the waiting rooms has a TV to watch the dancers as they practice in one of the side rooms. People were friendly and the place was clean. Joanne met with us two times, but worked with us for a few hours total. She brought a large skirt so it would feel like I was practicing in my dress, and she also took pictures on the last meeting so we could remember all of our hard work. She was reasonably priced at $60 an hour, and went over that that time a bit, but did not charge us for it. We ended up giving her more than she charged because we were so happy with her. Our first dance was elegant and graceful, and we couldn't have done it without the help of Joanne. We were extremely pleased with our experience and I highly recommend taking lessons if you have the time and money - it's well worth it. Don't forget to bring your shoes to break them in! read more

We have been going to impact since my daughter was 3 I left for one year to go somewhere else but then returned back to impact so total of 4 years and I finally made a decision of leaving again I feel like the classes are to big they don't recommend a class they don't evaluate kids or make suggestions on what they need to improve or wok on its pretty much u sign them up and it's just another student. Recital is beautiful costumes are a bit much and tickets are to high for it being in a high school. I feel like. I think the recital is all about money for impact. They also increase their rates almost every 2 years. read more

I thought Impact was ok but I am now taking my daughter to a new dance studio that is much cheaper and overall better. A couple of the things I did not like about Impact. First, there is no changing room for dads to use to get their daughters ready. There is a nice big room for the moms, but if a dad wants to get his daughter changed they told me I had to go into the small little one person bathroom. No cool, and gross. You also have to climb up a huge staircase to get inside the building. If you have little kids, you will really hate those steps. There is no parking lot, so you also may have to walk a while if you can't find close street parking. I put my 3 year old in a dance class there but I felt as if they played more games than actually taught her the fundamentals of dancing. I really liked all of the teachers but there was one teacher that kind of mean to the little kids. Besides these couple of things, we liked the teachers, classes, costumer services and the recitals. I would recommend people check a few other studios out before signing up at Impact. read more

I don't care how many times they try deleting my review, this is my review and I have a right to put it on here! The last good review they got is two years ago. PEOPLE BEWARE! Extremely disappointed. As soon as I brought up the fact that my child mentioned the teacher hurting her hand they sent me an email that she can no longer participate in the recital and that she can no longer attend. Not fair that my child looked so forward to dance and after months of going she is told she can no longer attend? The owner had her assistant call me Instead of calling me herself and even the assistant said she felt bad for me and didn't understand. Overall not a nice situation to myself or my child. I hope they care more about their students because it defiantly didn't show in my situation. My advice to them is... Care more about the kids, as these are young kids and have ambitions to dance and when you just decide to eliminate them without alternatives like maybe another teacher another class then it can be very hurtful. My daughter has been taking classes for two years at the Countryside location. We love the studio and my daughter has learned so much from Ms. Sue! What a positive experience. I also love that the studio offers a free dance class for first time attenders, although my daughter loves dance, she has not liked other activites we enrolled her in. We love Impact Dance. Miss Sue commands friendly respect and patient guidance with both my daughters. The Twinkle Tots program is such a joy and impressive watching the teacher and her helper navigate the little ones around. We were having problems with my 3yo playing with her shoes and being too distracted at first, but Miss Sue knew we had the wrong shoes for her and helped us fix the problem. The recitals are so enjoyable to watch and worth it. I truly cried laughing.... like a scene out of the movie Parenthood. They can be pricey but you can opt out. My older daughter loves seeing her picture on the wall with her class when we come in. I like the structure and professionalism and now I have my youngest in the Boogie class and added a Jazzy Tumble class for more gymnastics practice for her. The music they use in the classes is super fun and we often look for them on youtube to practice at home. read more

Such a great studio. Have been bringing my daughter for years. All of the instructors and desk staff are always friendly and helpful. Dancers learn so much each year in class, and you can see your child's improvement in their June recitals (which are awesome, btw! Impact has it down to a science!). Although there are cheaper dance class options around, I'd rather spend a little more for the quality service provided. Seems like most of the bad reviews are due to people not reading the registration forms/emails about tuition or studio policies. Auto enrollment each month is much more logical than contacting hundreds of families each month to see if they want to continue. So convenient for parents! read more

We tried dance lessons at a park district and another dance studio before finally finding Impact. What a huge difference! Impact instructors are off the charts talented and by far teach kids better than anyone else. The instructors are also kind and patient. I was always a little unhappy with the lack of individual attention - a dance instructor should be giving individual feedback on the various steps and helping them to get them better. But now, the class size has grown to 15 plus which is totally ridiculous. Our daughter is starting her second year in the Impact Dance Company and she is 7 1/2 years old. She is beginning her third year at Impact and has been dancing since she was 3 years old. We have moved quite a bit and she has danced at several studios in the area, as well as in other states. We can't say enough wonderful things about this dance program. The instructors are talented and produce amazing choreography. But our daughter has learned so much more than just good technique. The instructors care about the well-being of the students. They create a positive environment and teach good work ethic. They facilitate a family atmosphere. They are instilling values in dancers that will help them beyond dancing throughout their lives. We would highly recommend Impact Dance Studio. Our daughter lives for her time that she spends there. read more

Impact Dance Company is not a professional organization. Not impressed with the owners at all. Their billing policy (if you can even call it that) is vague and not well communicated and we have had an ongoing problem with extra fees being charged. Additional dances and practices are added on weekends and holidays with little notice or consideration to other obligations apparently operating under the assumption that everybody's lives revolve around this program. What is most disconcerting is that many of the dances, costumes and themes are not in good taste and do not send a positive message to girls to become strong, independent women. If you are comfortable with your young girls being dressed in a cheap white bra and hot pants plastered in clown make-up dancing and grinding to "Put a Ring on It", this is the place for you. If the "Dance Moms" thing isn't for you, I would suggest seeking out a higher caliber organization. read more
