We had never been here before so Immy let us try a few samples to get a taste for what we liked. I ended up ordering the spicy chicken egusi with fufu. It had lots of flavor and wasn't overly spicy. My friends ordered the chicken curry with spinach and beef egusi. Everything was very delicious and had lots of flavor! Both the chicken and beef were very tender! It is a bit pricey once you add sides and a drink but the portions are very large! We had lots of leftovers. We will definitely be back to try more menu options! read more

I started this review a while ago so I'll provide a quick little recommendation. I've only tried their food truck items. The veggie sambusas are great, please get them! So much flavor packed into them. My friend got the smoked jerk chicken which she liked but it was very spicy to her. She still ate it but maybe wanted a little less heat. I tried the bajia in the pic but I don't see it on their menu anymore. Very good as well. A friend of mine recommended this spot. I hadn't tried African cuisine (not sure why) yet, so this was perfect. We stopped in, and there was a line. You order at the front and then get your food and sit down. Lots of take-outs too. I got the smoked jerk chicken, vegetarian egusi, coconut chickpeas, and tried both the turkey and vegetarian sambusa. The smoked jerk chicken was delicious, the egusa, and I absolutely loved the sambusas. I have to say - I liked them better than samosas. (Shhh...don't tell anyone.) But they were delicious. Day two of my 7-day stretch of trying at least one new-to-me restaurant per day. I actually tried two places on this day, the first being Immy's African Cuisine. I ordered goat curry, jollof rice, and fried plantains. I've had both jollof rice and fried plantains before and I feel like these are good examples of both. I'd get them again. Years ago there was an African restaurant in Port Washington that served goat, but I never got to try it before they permanently closed. Immy's was a must try for me so I could finally say I've eaten goat. I don't know how much of the meat itself I was tasting because the curry was so flavorful, so maybe it wasn't the best way to sample goat, but the curry was good for what it was. I'd be interested in trying goat made a different way if they're able to do so just so I can get a better taste of the meat. read more

This was my new restaurant of the week and a bookmark for awhile. The 5th star isn't given out by me loosely because it's reserved for an absolute top notch experience. I stopped over for lunch around noon to find them not open until 3 pm. The woman from the Facebook page who I assume is the owner opened the door and was totally willing to make me the food that I drove over for 3 hours before they opened for making the drive, thank you for being so nice to me. The decor is modern and fresh looking with black and red tables. I ordered the curry goat, turkey sambusa and jolof rice that comes with an amazing sauce for the sambusa that was so good. The turkey sambusa was so delicious with a crispy shell and soft center. The jolof rice was fu#king delicious with nice heat and flavor. The curry bone in goat was also amazing with great flavor and tender pieces of goat. The food isn't seasoned with salts but it's depth of flavors from all the spices is absolutely delicious. It's got the depth of flavor like Indian food is how to describe it but in a different flavorful way. Overall the food and service is amazing and this has been the best restaurant I have been to in a while. This will definitely make my list of known go to great places but I wish it wasn't so far away. Great job, you knocked it out of the park today. read more

Immy's African Cuisine has some of the best food in Milwaukee. It's flavorful, the meat is very tender, and the staff are welcoming. I like that the menu has a wide variety of items to choose from. I have yet to try anything I didn't like. I also appreciate the specials they have on the board near the counter. If you decide to dine in, the restaurant is pretty quiet and they play African music in the background for a smooth ambiance. I highly recommend you check them out! read more

I came to Immy's after a long pleasant walk north up the river and was ravenous for some good food. I actually found out about this place from a reddit forum about great food in Milwaukee, and they were spot on with this recommendation! Based on the flags in the restaurant they serve food from Uganda and Kenya. You order and pay at the counter, where they have all the menu items in chafing dishes for you to choose from. There is a fair amount of seating in the restaurant and you can choose your spot freely once you've ordered and paid and gotten your food. I split my entree into half spicy beef egusi and half cassava leaf chicken, and got a side of jollof rice. It was really hard to decide, though, because everything looks so good. Just a note that while they do serve everything in takeout containers, they do pack it up slightly differently if you tell them you're eating in vs taking out. Everything was absolutely delicious. I love egusi and this was a great one with tender beef. It was not noticeably spicy to me, so don't be scared off by the "spicy" in the name. The cassava leaf chicken was also incredibly rich, and I like that they use skin on chicken thigh which ensures the meat is tender and adds to the unctuousness of the sauce. Jollof rice was also awesome. Portions are generous, and I don't think I would have been able to finish everything had I not just walked over an hour to get to the restaurant. Definitely a must visit in Milwaukee. read more

I have been meaning to try fufu for a while now. I was ecstatic to find a new local spot that offered fufu as well as numerous other authentic dishes. I ordered three meat entrees, fufu, and jollof rice. Everything was spiced well and the portions of meat were generous. First time here and I will definitely be back. I ordered the Chicken Egusi, Curry Goat, Jollof Rice, Plantains, Chapati and Fufu. Everything was delicious. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the fufu. The texture was a bit different for me. I also had a taste of the Jerk Chicken, which was spicy but not too overpowering. For dessert we had the cinnamon roll, it was freshly made and huge! I wanna point out that this place was decorated sooooooo cute. The ambience was definitely great, it made me feel I was actually out of the country. And let me end my review with the service, it was spectacular. I've been wanting to try Immy's so bad for a while now! We ordered goat curry, chicken peanut stew, and mixed greens with a side of fufu. Portions were big and we had leftovers into the next day. None of the dishes were spicy (like burn your mouth) but they were all well spiced - I could have done with more kick. The fufu was the perfect vehicle for all of these things, and I was kind of surprised that the fufu wasn't salted or didn't have much flavor aside from potato. To me, it reminded me more of like a slightly stickier mashed potato ball (and I would eat it again and again). Goat curry was great, some of our chunks of goat were kind of tough, but I loved the bone-in goat. The chicken peanut stew was also reliably good and creamy, with the meat also falling off of the bone because it was so tender! With the fufu being unsalted, some of the stews felt underseasoned/salted comparatively, but that is also just my own tastes. Mixed greens were solid, pleasantly seasoned, and not overpowering. They were out of sambusas, so I know for a fact that I'll be back to try those and the other dishes they have to offer! read more

I ordered through online service early around 11am. My order wouldn't be ready till 4pm and that worked for me. I received my order on time and I'm grateful for my driver patience.( my location was confusing). I ordered spicy beef egusi, goat curry, Jollof rice and fufu. To get to the point, I enough everything. My least favorite was the beef egusi. I think it's because eastern and western African egusi is different. I enjoy western African egusi. I haven't accidentally eaten that fast in my entire life, and the portions were great for the price as I have some leftovers that I will be devouring for breakfast tomorrow. The service was amazing, everything on my plate was fresh and warm, and the staff was friendly and offered recommendations to others I was with. The restaurant's atmosphere was welcoming and open with plenty of tables indoor and outdoor. You could go in to this restaurant, put a blindfold on, and just point at the menu and I guarantee whatever your finger lands on, it will be amazing. The food is rich and balanced, certainly satisfying but also soothing, which is unexpected, a nice surprise. What are the real foods in the countries of East Africa? There is a buffet bar from which the server places your food. You can eat at the restaurant. They have simple chairs and tables. Utterly unassuming but clean and looks comfortable. On a hot day, I wouldn't recommend it. The place is near the University, which I guess makes sense? All in all: don't miss out. read more

Went there with a friend on a Friday afternoon before it got too busy. We split an order of beef egusi with fufu and and order of jerk chicken with jollaf rice. We also got an order of the samosas with their chili sauce. Everything was really good and the portion sizes were just right enough to share with the table. The jerk chicken had some spice, but I think I could of had a little more spice in addition to the spice that was already there. The jollaf rice was delicious. The beef egusi was a little under seasoned and could have maybe used some more sauce as it was a little dry. The sauce that came with the samosas added lots of flavor, was slightly spicy and really improved the overall samosa experience. I would definitely return here again and try some of their other options. The jerk chicken had to be my favorite bite though. read more
