I had a good experience with almost all of my teachers (though I had a couple distinguishably quirky ones). I feel that the technology and science aspects were very helpful (I don't know anyone else who used Blackboard before college!). I had a great experience going through the drama program 6th - 8th grade. I loved going to Catalina, Astro Camp, SeaWorld, and going on snowboard trips. The campus is beautiful now. There was no follow-up, no attempt at reconciliation, and no effort to understand what I personally witnessed. What I shared was not based on "emotion" or misunderstanding. It was based on what I saw with my own eyes. I witnessed Mrs. Morgan yank a first grader by the back of his hoodie and yell at him to sit down. I witnessed her grab another student by the arm and push him to the ground during a class field trip. I witnessed her publicly embarrass a student in front of his peers, telling him he doesn't listen. These were not secondhand accounts. These were direct observations. Additionally, when I brought a serious concern to administration regarding a student telling my son she "didn't like Black people," the issue was minimized rather than meaningfully addressed. That was deeply concerning. You may state that investigations were conducted and documentation exists, but my experience as a parent was that my concerns were not handled with transparency, accountability, or care. Instead of focusing on defending reputations, I would hope the school would focus on reflection and correction. You consistently teach Christ-like love and character. My experience did not reflect those values in practice. This was my lived experience. Dismissing it as a difference in "perspective" does not change what I saw or how it was handled. The principal is obviously too busy having her own babies to pay attention to her school full of children. The other review is correct about clicks. There are many clicks. The office personnel need lessons on customer service, and maybe some happy pills too.....always in a downer mood when you walk in there. First was appetizers and mingling. There were a lot of people so it was hard to maneuver but we made it work. There were two open bars with beer, wine, and soda so I enjoyed some Chardonnay. We browsed the children's art pieces that were for sale and they were gorgeous! Some of those kids have a true talent! After we looked at the art we were ushered across the street to the main dinner event which was located outside in between some of the classrooms. The school itself is very beautiful and well maintained. I was very impressed. While people were taking their seats there was even a band playing and it was all middle school students! So neat! They did a great day! The food was great. The speeches were amazing. And I heard through the grape vine that a lot of money was raised for the charity! YAY!!

SJDL has truly been more than just a school to us; it has been home. The most beautiful part of our experience has been the journey in faith. Watching my children grow not only academically but spiritually has been such a gift. Faith isn't just taught here; it's lived every day. Over the years, we have met incredible families and built friendships that will last a lifetime. Our children have formed strong bonds with classmates, and those friendships have grown year after year. There is something very special about being part of a community where everyone genuinely cares about one another. One of the things I have always appreciated is the small class sizes, usually around 15 to 18 students. It allows teachers to truly know each child, not just their name, but their personality, strengths, and areas where they may need extra support. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every student feels seen, supported, and safe. Knowing that safety is always a top priority gives parents incredible peace of mind. I've also seen the school grow and evolve over the years, offering opportunities in sports, theater, and other activities that allow students to explore their talents and build confidence.
