Threatened with Disenrollment for Asking a Simple Question…read more I rarely write public reviews, but my recent experience with Little Scholars Academy and staff member Shehara Devendra left me shocked and disappointed. The issue began with something simple: I dropped off extra clothes for my child and was told they would be labeled by the school. Later, when I picked them up, none had been labeled as promised. I politely messaged the school, explained the situation, and respectfully requested that only the unlabeled items be returned so I could label them myself. What I received in response was not acknowledgment or accountability, but vague reassurances and generic replies that completely ignored the specific concern I had raised. Instead of acknowledging the oversight, I was told to "trust the process" -- as if my concern was rooted in distrust, when in reality I had simply asked for follow-through and clarity. I remained calm and polite in every message, even thanking them multiple times. At no point did I use disrespectful or inappropriate language. Despite this, I was later told by the Director that my child's enrollment could be discontinued if I was ever "disrespectful" again. After receiving that email from the Director, my family felt humiliated, anxious, and unsure of what to do next. After much hesitation, we decided to email the school to withdraw our child from enrollment. The school replied, asking us which date we wanted our child's last day to be. Because we were unfamiliar with their withdrawal process, we politely asked for more detailed guidance -- specifically, what the procedure would be and what date would work for the school. Instead of receiving any instructions, the school simply stopped responding. Then, one morning at drop-off, I was confronted at the door by staff member Shehara. She blocked the entrance and demanded that I give her a specific last day for my child's attendance. This was done while my child was crying in fear and distress, and while other parents were lined up behind us trying to drop off their children. I asked her repeatedly if my child was allowed to attend class that day, but she replied that she "didn't know" and insisted I give her a date immediately. In the end, I had to almost ask for permission for my child to enter class, promising I would confirm the withdrawal date later that day. Only then did she allow my child to go inside. This was not the only example of pressured compliance. Shehara insisted we purchase the school's preferred diaper brand, even though we already had a large supply of another suitable brand, making us feel that noncompliance might result in mistreatment of our child. The Director, who has never been present during our drop-offs or pick-ups, nonetheless defended her staff without ever having witnessed these incidents. Rather than working with us as partners in our child's care, they created an environment where asking a simple question was treated as a disciplinary problem. As a parent, I believe in collaborating with teachers and staff, and in standing up when communication breaks down and basic respect is lacking. I expected better from a school entrusted with my child's care. It's disappointing that a parent raising a simple concern -- calmly and constructively -- could be treated as a disciplinary problem, then later confronted publicly at the school door, instead of being treated as a partner in their child's education. I share this experience in the hope it brings attention to the importance of accountability, empathy, and clear communication in childcare. Parents should be able to ask questions and express concerns without being threatened with disenrollment, ignored when seeking guidance, or put in uncomfortable and public confrontations during drop-off. I strongly urge parents to consider these experiences before enrolling at Little Scholars Academy. Your family deserves a school that values transparency, respect, and true partnership with parents.

From the very beginning in Room 1, Ms. Haley and Ms. Kazrynn were absolutely amazing. They loved on my boys so well, and what meant even more was how that care continued even as my kids moved up through the school. It always felt like they were genuinely invested in them, not just for a season, but throughout their entire time at Clever. Room 2 was also a wonderful experience, especially with Ms. Brett, whom my youngest absolutely adored. Seeing him so excited to go to school each day and knowing he felt loved by his teacher meant everything to me. My oldest was lucky enough to have Ms. Venessa in Room 3, and she was truly the best. We were so sad when she left before my youngest got the chance to have her too. Room 3 had a few rocky moments with teacher changes, but I always felt like Ms. Tammy was doing her absolute best, and there was consistently support from the other classrooms whenever needed. Room 4 was another wonderful chapter for us with Ms. Clarissa and Ms. Evelyn. Every step of the way, the school was so communicative, supportive, and informative. It really felt like a little family there. Now that both of my boys are in regular school, I look back on our time at Clever with so much gratitude. As a working parent, there is nothing more valuable than knowing your children are safe, loved, and genuinely cared for while you're away. That is exactly how Clever Endeavors made us feel, and I will always be so grateful for the love they poured into both of my boys.

We did not have a good experience with the first place we put our oldest and wanted to be able to "check in". We also wanted the flexibility to send food with our child versus relying on what was being served. What has kept us at Childtime are the staff, the experiences our children get, and the education they learn. As our oldest progressed from the Toddler to Twos classroom his brother was born. We never questioned where he would go - it was Childtime. Eventually he got a sister and she too enrolled. Our oldest is now entering Kinder, with our middle headed into the TK class at Childtime and our youngest in the Infant room. In the childcare space there is always churn. We have seen teachers and Assistant Directors come and go - but one constant has been in the Director Mrs. America. She TRULY loves the kids and does all she can to make their time the best it can be. We had the pleasure of having her son in the same class as our oldest son and her daughter in the same class as our youngest son. She's amazing and her husband is a gem as well. You can often see him at pick-up taking out trash, cleaning up toys, or setting up for activities. Her assistant, Ms. Diane is great as well. You can tell she loves kids and wants to foster their growth and development. We looked at other Childtime locations. This one was different. The outdoor space is HUGE, every teacher knows every kids name, and there's Mrs America. :) If you are looking at the Infant room, Ms Kanice, Ms. Vanley, and Ms. Angelica will watch over your kiddos and treat them like their own. They will sing, dance, blow bubbles, and give any snuggles needed for naptime. If you are looking at the Twos room, Ms. Melanie and Ms Liz are both AMAZING! Many parents have credited Ms. Melanie with helping their kids potty train. She is wise and experienced. As for Pre-K and TK, Ms. Diana, Ms. Vicki, and Ms. Stella are FANTASTIC as well. Our kids love them all and they love them. Our oldest had Ms. Stella. He was heartbroken when he had to leave for TK at the local Public school. When entering, he was noticeably ahead of everyone else. He could read, do math, and write his name. They also have some sweet floaters and culinary staff. Ms Jen in the kitchen is lovely and the kids really connect with Ms Taylor when she comes in to relieve a teacher for break or help out at closing. Oh, and Ms Anibel is sooo patient and loving with the youngest ones! Honestly, give it a look. Is it the cheapest? No. Does it have both early and late hours to accommodate the working household? Yes. Is it a safe and loving place for your kids to grow and thrive? Yes. Are they perfect? No Do they make changes as they learn? Yes Can you trust them? Yes. Of the daycares we considered, Childtime definitely is not the cheapest in terms of cost, but in my experience this is really something where you get what you pay for. Our experience here has been nothing short of wonderful. The teachers are all so wonderful, they are genuinely nice people who really care about the kids. I've never once wondered if my daughter is in great hands. You can tell that this business is run and managed excellent from the top administrators down to the teacher level. Whoever interviews and hires these teachers does an exceptional job at selecting employees, because without exception all my daughter's teachers have been wonderful. Equally important is she loves in at that school and is excited every morning. The school puts a lot of effort into feeding her good food and making lesson plans each month to teach and stimulate her. We're especially thankful for Miss Melanie, Miss Liz, miss Anjelica, Miss Annabel, Miss Vanely, and Miss Kanice who have all made a hugely positive impact on our daughter. We recently had to potty train our daughter, and thought the transition from weekend training to going back to school would result in some setbacks. Instead, Miss Melanie took on my daughter's potty training at school with the same effort and care that we did at home. My kids learned so much during their time here. By the time they started kindergarten, they were well-prepared in math and spelling, giving them a strong foundation. Ms. Mayra was a pleasure to talk to when dropping him off in the morning, as were the other teachers when picking him up at the gate. Communication over the Remind app is super simple and responses tend to be very quick. Since starting kindergarten, Nate has become a top performer in his class, and we believe Newport Ave Preschool deserves a great deal of the credit for that.
