I decided to try a few things to give me meals for a few days. I ordered: Italienischer Salat: Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, corn, cucumber, pepperoncini with feta and a Balsamic Vinaigrette-was perfect size for a lunch-sized meal or split between two people as a side dish. Shinken Specialty Pizza (ham, mushrooms, garlic) and I added toppings of red onions, green peppers. This combo is always a favorite for me and I was excited to see that they already had chopped garlic on it. Their garlic was perfectly marinated with some olive oil and basil. The dough had the right amount of chew and the sauce was fresh and tasty. It had ample cheese and toppings. This pizza hands down delicious and enough for one person for two meals or one dinner and two lunches, if you're me. Gnocchi bolognese al forno: baked gnocchi with a bolognese style meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. This was very good; the sauce had a slight tang to it, which was curious, but not in any way a negative. I got four meals out of this. The delivery was quick and the bonus is that you can order and pay anytime in advance and let them know when you'd like it ordered and delivered. It showed up on time and both the pizza and the gnocchi were still hot and the salad was very fresh. I'll try some of their other dishes in the future, but the pizza will always be ordered. An extremely reasonably-priced meal, too. This is a new local favorite.

I was immediately seated upon arrival, but it took awhile to receive the check once I was done. The quaintness of the inviting atmosphere was refreshing.

Unfortunately this year they were closed for holidays and La Piazza was recommended by a colleague. The location is nice, on a quiet pedestrian alley off the Schillerplatz; and the white clothe covered tables certainly gives it an upscale feel. The menu has traditional Italian dishes, salads, and pizzas. For starters I asked for a glass of Barbera and the young waiter told me they were out, so I asked for his recommendation and he replied "I don't drink wine so I can't help you." In my opinion a waiter should know something about their wines and if they don't they should know how to fake it. Maybe I pissed him off with my remark but when he brought my bottled water to the table and did not open it. Next I ordered the Insalata Italiano which should be served with a very mild dressing so you can taste the ingredients. This salad arrived swimming in balsamic vinegar that completely drowned everything on the plate. For my pizza I ordered the capers, olives, and anchovies - which should be sparingly added - just enough to give you a faint taste. My pizza arrived with many large anchovy slices that dominated every bite. Sadly I was not able to enjoy my salad or pizza. La Piazza is a restaurant that serves Italian food, it is not an Italian restaurant.

We went to the other side of the restaurant, to get away from any prejudice from the other night. We ordered a simple pork knuckle, but instead of mashed potatoes we wanted roasted. the order came, a pork "Shank" and mashed potatoes, 10 minutes later when we were able to flag down our waitress I asked her to look at our plate and tell me what's wrong? She immediately saw that the potatoes were wrong and took off to correct it. another 10 minutes later we got enough roasted potatoes for 6 people, served in a 2 quart bowl. My wife and I ate maybe 10 pieces, before we laid down our forks. The pork "Shank" was disappointing, anyone who has had a pork "Knuckle" will know what I mean. After dinner we ordered a Expresso Martini for her and a "Adios Mo-Fo", a play on a "Long Island Ice Tea" in 10 minutes the wife got hers, and by the time she finished it my AMF, still had not arrived. When we were finally able to flag down our waitress and asked for the check I informed her to make sure the AMF was NOT on the bill. She tried to make excuses but I shut her down and asked for the check, again. When it came I told her I wanted a receipt, got it and pocketed it, and we walked back to the hotel. In our room I looked at the receipt and threw it down and raised my hands in a "Field Goal", the wife was like, "WTF!" so I showed her the bill, the AMF was not listed but they charged us 5.50 euro's for the additional roasted potatoes. the 5.50 euros is going to be the payment for the next yelp they get from me. I hope the owner sees this and understands this is NOT a way to run a business, if you can't run it properly with the staff you have then hire more, or train the ones you have, better! Read review #1 on kitchen sanitation madness. Gordon R would have fired the whole crew and shut the place down for sanitation and cross contamination issues.
