This small cute place in the center of Williamstown, Mass, show independent movies, documentaries and comedies, often pick from international film festival such as Sundance, Toronto, etc. Every movie in calendar is an interesting brilliant cinema production you will never regret to see. The front of house people are young and elders people from the community. You can get snacks from local farms, bakery goods, as well as more common popcorns - with lots of different toppings! Before the movies nice slides presents you what movie will be coming next, as well as promoting local restaurants and business with specials for the movies's members and visitors. This is the sort of place that would exist in every small town in America, if the world were good and full of wonderful things, instead of awful and full of biker meth and sprawl. But, in Williamstown, MA, a sort of fake, upmarket small-town that could almost be a Potemkin Village of East-Coast Liberalism (and elitism), this place does exist. And it's wonderful. It only has one screen, but on that screen, for runs of one to two weeks, they show excellent movies. More Indy, artsy, and festival-y stuff than the multiplexes, though with space in their hearts for certain indie-kids-gone-big like Wes Anderson, Michele Gondry, and Sophia Coppola - who will always find a space on the screen here (about a month after they've found space in the multiplexes), Images picks almost exclusively worth-seeing movies. With room to show only one movie at a time, sometimes there will be an off week. But it's a rare and forgivable lapse. And if you check out the website or glance at the marquee on a lucky day, you will find that during non-prime-time hours, Images shows things like documentaries, foreign films, great old movies, etc., often featuring speakers afterward. These events seem usually to happen in conjunction with Williams College, a nearby educational institution of some note, which means the speakers are often professors who are Big Deals in their (sometimes, admittedly, highly-specialized) areas of expertise. Or the people who made the movie! So it could be a great talk. The daytime audience of older sorts will do their best to sidetrack Q&A's, but sometimes they fail. So, it's a great, real, small-town-movie-theater. For a made-up world where small town Americans care about documentaries and know the word "ennui." Which makes it as good a place as any - and far better than most - to eat organic popcorn and veg out to a heart-wrenchingly beautiful movie while, beyond the borders of our privilege, the real world burns. read more

This is a fantastic little theatre in Williamstown! From blankets to organic popcorn and butter and candy this great theatre has it all... except multiple movies. Plan ahead and check their website for something you might want to see (think Indy or Rare) because chances are they might not have what you're looking for. They have regular events with public speakers and also movies so even if you were looking for a flick they might not be on that night. They offer blankets when you arrive which is a nice touch. I'm a germ-a-phobe and would rather freeze but they would probably be fine with you bringing your own. The seating is moderately comfortable but has been upgraded from years part. There appears to be a cozy little pub downstairs (I didn't go) so think about bringing your date for a pre or post movie drink. This theatre is surrounded by interesting restaurants which will impress the easily pleased and satisfy the foodies. Check out the Thai or Indian food. The staff here is absolutely perfect and I'm looking forward to returning in the future. read more

Take a step back in time. It is so great to have a place to show independent movies in the Berkshires. It is locally run and operated by people who love film -- and want you to love them, too. Too cold? Borrow a blanket. Want popcorn without the crappy industrial goop? Have some organic popcorn. Every movie seems to be carefully selected and considered. The downside is that this non-profit cannot afford the most modern and comfortable chairs. You really are going back in time to a theater the way it was many years ago. But, that is a small price to pay to have such great films here. read more

This is a cute little theater wedged in a building with a hot spot downstairs. In fact, this appears to be the only little theater in Williamstown. Which is why I rate it higher than I might normally, since it's not particularly fancy or well cleaned or cheap. I really enjoy the concession options though. I had a brownie. read more

Images Cinema is adorable. And it plays independent movies. Schwing! :) Images holds one small theater and the staff do an incredible job at selecting notable films. I came here on a Saturday night to see Ides of March. I received a discounted ticket because I am a student and you will get a slightly more discounted ticket if you are a Williams College student. The concession stand has some of your traditional and non traditional candies. I opted for the gummy bears, which came in a small ziploc bag. Too cute. However, they were a whopping $2.50. You will also find organic popcorn, which I grabbed a bite of (delicious!). As you enter the movie theater, you will find one laundry basket on each side of the lifted seating area. Each laundry baskets holds...folded BLANKETS for your comfy pleasure. Cool and rare idea, if you ask me. What a warm and cozy movie theater! I will definitely be paying Images a visit in the future! read more

Took in a movie here, a lousy movie, but this theatre shines. Organic popcorn, and a fantastic staff who talk with the customers waiting to go into the next show. The seats are comfy, the slant of the theatre good so as to see over the person in front of me, and as noted, blankets for my lovely who DOES get cold on a summer's night at the movies. read more

Love this place. Just wish they had a sister theater up in Vt. They show more than just the 10 movies. Movies that make you think, maybe even read subtitles. I drive an hour to get here but worth every mile. Plus they offer wine & beer to go with your popcorn. Who doesn't love that. read more

The best independent films in a small, intimate theater setting. Great organic popcorn, chocolates, and other locally made treats for making it a special experience. People are respectful, and will try not to sit right in front of you - where else can you find that?! Plenty of places to eat on Spring Street, so dinner and a movie is easy. read more
