I think this restaurant has only recently opened. It is in a very attractive part of Prague, has nice decor and a welcoming feel to it (like most Italian restaurants). The presentation of the food is very colourful and good (see photos) but unfortunately the food itself is pretty tasteless.
The service is also not up to much. I can't fault them on attentiveness, but they got our order mixed up: 2 of our party of 3 wanted the Catalan seafood platter and I wanted the fish as a main course, but they thought we all wanted everything and, worse, both the seafood platter and the fish turned up at the same time which meant that the fish was cold by the time we got to eat it. Not good, particularly as the food itself didn't live up taste-wise to its spectacular appearance. That said, there was nothing actually wrong with it - it just wasn't very good, particularly for the price (about GBP75 a head including a bottle of wine split 3-ways).
I also felt that the recommendations of the waiter pushed us in the direction of too much expensive food. 2 elderly people and one middle-aged man (me!) didn't want some gigantic American-like amount, which is what turned up. If they said what they did because they wanted to get rid of stuff in the kitchen that is an self-defeating policy as we just felt over-fed rather than satisfied and delighted - so I don't think any of us, including my 2 Czech companions who are well-off and influential people in the Prague community, will bother to go back again.
It could be that a different choice from the menu would have resulted in a better experience. I expect (Italian) waiters in Italian restaurants to have a better feel for what their guests might like, but ours didn't.
Moreover, I was irritated by the constant movement of people coming in and out of the restaurant past our table who appeared either to work there or be related to them. It is a small place, and the constant coming and going of men and women, babies in prams and so on past the table was disruptive and disturbing. It also appeared to be very overstaffed - at least 5 waiters in a place with 5 tables (and there was only one other customer when we were there). There should be a back entrance or the front of house should be off limits to staff, their relatives and friends during working hours except for the 1-2 waiters needed to serve the guests.
There was also a muddle over the bill, as the waiter dealing with it took about 10 minutes to work out (eventually, with the help of the proprietor) that they didn't accept American Express cards. That's a pretty basic piece of information to which he should have known the answer when I asked him 'Do you take American Express cards?'.
This was one of the most disappointing restaurants I have been to for a long time, particularly as I was entertaining the 2 other people - I felt badly let down. With a few tweaks to solve the problems I've outlined above it could be quite good but on the basis of our experience we won't be going there again and won't be recommending it to our friends and acquaintances. There are a lot of far better restaurants in Prague. read more
