Sant' Erasmo is a delightful alternative in Venice! It's located on Venice's secret garden island, with beautiful views across the lagoon.
We finally arrived at our hotel at 20:15, we had walked seemingly aimlessly from the port, admiring the glorious scenery and beautiful architecture, when one colonial looking house in particular caught our attention. How amazing, this turned out to be our hotel! It's a huge yellow house set within I don't know how many acres of land, some of which is a vineyard. Unfortunately the restaurant is closed on Thursdays, however they kindly offered us lasagne or pasta with meat Ragu, both were delicious!
The hotel exceeded all of our expectations! Our room was very authentic and in keeping with the style of the house. It was a large airy room with ample storage space, a lovely en suite and a delightful veranda which overlooked the vineyards and the front of the property. The staff are so lovely and made us feel completely at home!
In the morning, after breakfast, we discovered we had free usage of the many bicycles kept on the grounds! Our four year old was strapped into the child seat on the back of my husband's bike and we thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful ride around the entire island, it only took an hour! The island appeared to be a clean and harmonious place. People mostly cycled around or drove tiny 3 wheel pick ups! We loved it here and fully intend to return next year! read more
