we have been there nine years ago and were quite happy. this year, 2014, it was a desaster. this…read morewas the worst experience we´ve had in our live. the place is rotten, nothing is working, it´s dirty and you even have to buy the stuff to clean by yourself. our kids did not want to sleep in the beds, because they were worn out and the sleeves were dirty and full of holes. they say that every apartment has a tv, what they do is to give an old tv from a century ago and tell you that you have to install everything yourself, because they (the owner, maria) can´t do it. it did not work of course. if you complain they tell you that everything is alright and that it is your own fault if something is not working. some days we had to put the fuse 50 times back to work, but of course it was our fault. funny enough the electrician made the system work but only after i told them that i was going to give the whole thing to my lawyer if they don´t start working on it. as i said this was the worst experience ever, nobody should go there!

It is a one bedroom apartment with a queen sized bed and a pull-out couch that is very comfortable for kids or another couple. All of the furniture is new and tasteful (mostly from IKEA). There is a spacious kitchen, complete with all the essential gear for cooking or baking. There is also a toaster, Italian Moka Pot (Espresso), Teapot, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, gas stove, oven and of course many (new) plates , bowls, utensils, wine glasses etc. The bathroom is clean and bright which includes sink, toilet and shower. One of the nicest features of the apartment is the small intimate terrace that seats two people and is fantastic for a romantic morning coffee or having a glass of wine at sunset . The apartment gets its' name "tra i tetti" or "among the rooftops" from the beautiful view of the Italian terra-cotta rooftops. The apartment is on the top floor so the view is quite nice. That being said, those with knee problems or who are not able to do stairs, this apartment may be problematic because the apartment is on the top floor of a building with no elevator. If you are here for the first time, the location of the apartment couldn't be more perfect. It's only 5 minutes from the central train station and easy to walk to. Plus you are right in the center of Florence! Being on the top floor there is very little noise once the windows are closed. There are no trash bins on this street so you won't be bothered by the noisy garbage collectors that come early in the morning. The apartment has all your basic needs ready upon check-in. All linen and towels are provided, as well as your basic condiments for cooking like oil, salt, sugar, coffee, tea and soap for dishes and laundry. Check in/out times are often flexible as well. Great place to call home for first time visitors or seasoned travelers of this beautiful city.

We received…read morea very friendly and kind welcome when we arrived and were instantly impressed with the beauty and cleanliness of the property. The check-in process went smoothly, we were given information about the local area, then accompanied to our villa. The 3 spacious bedrooms all had en-suite bathrooms which were decorated beautifully and provided sufficient storage space for our clothes and luggage. The living and dining rooms were also very well appointed and comfortable for our group of 6 adults. Though those spaces were not large, we were all able to sit comfortably and enjoy breakfast in the mornings and wine and movies at night. One of my favourite things to do while there was watching the sunrise every morning while relaxing under the Tuscan sun and reading my book, before preparing for a day of exploration. The kitchen, though small, was quite adequate and functional. There was a minor issue with the refrigerator which was quickly resolved after contacting the Front Desk. The view every morning and every evening was nothing short of fantastic! I definitely recommend this property for couples and adult groups. Not so much for young children. You will surely need a vehicle in this area of Tuscany, but don't worry, there are ample parking spots in the covered parking garage and also a few outside. The property is about a 20-minute drive to the local train station, Pontedera Casciana. On our day trip to Rome, we parked at Casciana Terme and took a local train to Florence. From there, we took the high-speed Frecciarosa train to Roma Termini. After a busy day in Rome, we did the trip in reverse and found our vehicle right where we left it earlier that morning, undisturbed at Casciana Terme. Drove back to Borgo alle Vigne to enjoy another night of drinking wine and watching a movie before going to bed. Many thanks to the lovely staff at Borgo alle Vigne for a wonderful, enjoyable, and memorable stay. Thanks also for the complimentary bottle of delicious wine celebrating the property's 10th anniversary. Looking forward to a return visit.

If you don't stay there (I imagine it's quite nice), you can call ahead to the owner Francesco (Italian or English) and see if you can arrange for him to cook lunch or dinner for you (and a minimum of about 6 friends) - well worth it. He makes his own olive oil, produces his own wines, picks porcini from down the road, and sources his meats from neighbor's farms. Definitely pick up some of his olive oil, wines and fruit conserves even if you're just passing through.
