Very affordable with a view of the ocean if you sit outside. One of the staff spoke English, but…read moreeve though the owner didn't he still made and effort to communicate with us, which really meant a lot since he didn't even have to. The arancini definitely could've had more meat, but for the price it's extremely fair. The cannolo was also delicious.

"Two Cappuccino!" is what I would order every morning and the owner would look at me and say, "Two…read moreCappuccino!" with his Italian accent...it started to become a joke! After two days we had become regulars here...I loved that I could just walk up and pop my head in the door and hear the owner in a booming loud voice..."Two Cappuccino!" With our order placed we would then go and find a table on the outdoor deck. Every table has great views of the water! I could sit here all day...this is one of the most beautiful locations for a coffee shop ever. Also everyone has to walk by the cafe in order to get to the beach, so if you like people watching, then you cold sit here for hours. The sad part is that there are plenty of tables in the morning because most Sicilians make their espresso at home and are not going to sit out and have a coffee in the morning. In fact, I think it drove my Dad mad that we would go down and pay for coffee, when we could have just have it at home. This is a family business and the owners daughter is the server here...once our order is ready she brings it out to the table. The Cappuccino's here are amazing! I mean they are really really good...dare I say one of the best we've ever had. We were sold and this place was a ritual for two weeks. Coffee, people watching and looking out at the sea...I wonder if I can just move into this table. As our week went on...people would stop and visit us at our table...we were becoming American celebrities. My uncle came down one day and bought us our coffee. The local police officer walked us home a few times...I asked him to handcuff me and then tell my Dad I was in big trouble...we had some good laughs. One morning as we were people watching we even saw my Dad go by...I invited him over and he hung out with us for a bit...it was nice and peaceful. Maybe I could convert him to join us in the morning but that was wishful thinking. In the afternoon and evening this is a great place to get some gelato or a beer. The young kids love to hang out here at night and socialize. This place has long hours and there busy time is always in the summer. If you find yourself in Marina de Modica and you need an incredible Cappuccino, then I highly recommend you pop your head in tell the owner Anthony from Chicago sent you and you want, "Two Cappuccino!" He will probably laugh and say it right back at you. Grab a table with a view of the sea and just relax because this is a slice of paradise!!!

When you come to Modica you must stop in and try an impannatighe cookie. It looks like a half moon…read morebiscuit dusted with sugar. The name may be hard to pronounce...so I have included a photo so you can just point at it, when ordering. The name comes from empanadilla which is a Spanish word for a pastry that has a filling inside. The Spanish introduced chocolate to Modica from Mexico. If you have the impannatighe in your hand, then take a bite and stop reading my review. Now when you bite in you will instantly say...yum I like chocolate...but here is the dirty little secret...there is minced beef inside of here too. I started eating these as a little kid and I just fell in love with them. It wasn't until I got older that someone told me about the beef in here. I should have never told my wife because she can not eat them...which is a blessing for me because I do not have to share them with her. Modica is my Dad's hometown and I have been eating these pastries for as long as I can remember. My Dad told me a story that one person started making these pastries and all of the bakers in town tried copying it, until they got it right. When you come to Modica you will be able to find this pastry in almost every bakery or Gelato place. So you must try one for yourself because it is unique to the region. It is great to embrace the culture and traditions of the country you are visiting.
