Whenever we visit Montreal from Western NY, we try to swing by IKEA. It's only 10 minutes from my in-laws and now that we have a van, we can actually buy some toys and furniture for our 2 year old. I haven't been to any other IKEAs in last decade, so I can't compare. However it seems like a big IKEA with all its offerings. They have a large cafeteria and parking is surprisingly well laid out (or maybe I just got lucky with finding a spot). read more

i ordered a sofa bed from Ikea and it has been a disaster , delivery was cancelled without explanation ,was rescheduled and now i get a call and a threatening voice message saying i have to call them or my order will be cancelled. they really need to get their act together. In the meantime i received an email from rbcpayplan saying my financing loan was cancelled, so i logged in to check and everything looks fine. i don't understand how they sell their products. read more

From the expansive customer service area to the cute 'snack shack and market' area to the even more expansive restaurant space - all of which have been completely made over since my last visit long ago. I was very pleasantly surprised by these noticeable improvements. All had very friendly and efficient staff and I must say the fish n potatoes n peas n tartar sauce want half bad. Glad to see the prices are still reasonable and their is enough choice - including vegetarian Swedish meatballs. It's kind of fun, being transported to Sweden for a time while you are there and obviously this is part of the experience and what they are going for. It truly is one of the best marketing concepts in the world. Interestingly, the reviews are all over the shop literally with a good bunch in ever star category which averages to three - right in the middle. I can imagine the day and time of the week you go makes an impact on the experience. I went on a weekday evening, so my experience would have been a lot more stressful on a busy weekend during the day - I can imagine. read more

What other place can you both eat some pretty delicious food and furnish your home. IKEA is a staple in my house hold because they have such a vast variety of things so weather your missing something in your kitchen or bedroom or bathroom you'll be able to find it here. On all occasions that I have visited ikea the staff has always been kind and helpful. The store itself has a lady out that takes you through all sections of a home but you can easily skip through by following the designated short cuts. After all that walking around and shopping you'll probably be hungry and weather you want a light snack like the delicious hot dogs both original and veggie are a steal at a dollar each. Or sit down and have a full meal at the bistro upstairs. Or you can do what I do and start of with hot dogs and end with the bistro or vice versa! read more

I personally love IKEA, crowds and all. I don't go often, but when I do I always end up buying lots of extra things I don't need. This place has so much stuff and it's all so cheap at times. New pillows for $3? yes. New sheets just for fun. A lamp. I need a new laundry hamper and organizers. Basically, it never ends. And then there's the fooood. The grocery section of IKEA is one of my favourites. They have cool cookies, chocolate, chips, candy, frozen treats, jam, drinks. And there's the cheap concession stand food with free refills, yuuuuum. read more

Alright, so I'm 25 and it was the first time I set foot into an Ikea. I'm a bit of a late bloomer but there is a first time for everything, right? Shopping at Ikea was everything I thought it would be; big, modern, minimalist and unsurprising. Guided through the showroom maze, I ended up buying more than what I came for (good on you, Ikea marketing team!). Although I am aware Ikea isn't renown for its quality, I managed to find several kitchen and bathroom items which I'd been needing for a while. And so in that department, I am mostly satisfied. Now, on Ikea's cafeteria food... Oh, the food... Where to begin? It made many years since I had witnessed such a sad selection of foodstuff stacked on metal shelves and platters that way. Extremely processed, as poor in taste as it is in nutrients, eating at Ikea felt like what I imagine dining at a Dollarama would: cheap and dirty. When I sat, I almost reached in my pocket for my phone to take a picture but then refrained. I did not want to immortalize this moment. I wanted it to be over with. Dear shoppers, do yourself and your health a favor; bring a lunch or eat elsewhere. You don't have to do this to yourself. I'm serious, you really don't have to! Although I will still order Ikea furniture online, I will avoid going there as much as possible in the future. I have been wanting to get some new plants for my window seal at home and upgrade my rugs, so I thought whats better than to check out Ikea in Montreal since it's on my way out?! It was a Wednesday afternoon at around 12:45 pm, and it was PAAAAACKED already. Parking lot was full, although the store itself was not that busy, the cafeteria was hop'n! Pretty massive line ups to order food. The lines did not move quick! I didn't check out the showroom, but instead headed straight down to the market hall after I ate some OK veggie balls. Market hall was clean, well stocked and organized. I headed straight to the rugs, they had an OK selection and found something that would work for cheap! Found my way to the plant section and it was lacking. I dug through what they had and found a couple cute ones that called my name. I got what I needed and headed for the doors! read more

You know the place, famous for getting white knuckles trying to assemble swedish furniture. At times some of the purchases feels cheap and one time use. At other times you get great original pieces you can't find anywhere else. A place to get your apartment furnished in a budget. I think, my favorite thing to get here is the chip clips or bag clip o.0 The kitchen accessories section is probably my favorite. You can find some good bargain and quality seems pretty good. (I have a hella good deal on rent and live right by a skytrain station and don't have to rely on the horrible 25 bus route, so it made sense for him to move into my place, rather than for me to move in with him or for us to find a new place together.) While we had all the furniture we needed between us, one thing we needed to purchase was a new couch. I went to the IKEA website earlier this week, and until the end of the month, there was a sale on couches, so wanting to take advantage of the sale, I ordered an Ektorp couch. While the couch was a pretty good price, the delivery fee was a whopping $100 -- ouch! The couch was to be delivered today, between 1 and 5pm. Since my husband and I both took today (and tomorrow) off for the move, waiting around all afternoon on a weekday for a delivery wasn't a huge inconvenience, but we expected the couch to be here by 5pm, as promised. Well, we waited, and waited, and waited. At 4:11pm, the delivery guy called and said he would be here in around 45 minutes. Annoying, as that would be around 5pm, right at the end of the delivery window, but technically still within the timeframe, so I can't really complain. Well, 5pm came and went, and just before 6pm, an hour after they were supposed the be here, they arrived. No issues with the delivery itself, but it was inconvenient that it was a full hour after the promised time, especially as I had paid SO MUCH. If the delivery fee had been less, I wouldn't have been so annoyed, but a hundred dollars is a lot of money for me, so if you're going to charge me a hundred bucks, it better be delivered when promised! So I called customer service (I also had another question about my order, which was competently explained), and when I casually mentioned the possibility of some sort of compensation, the customer service rep (who had been very polite, understanding, and competent) said she would transfer me to the department that handled such issues, and I was transferred to another person who was just as polite, understanding, and competent. I knew it was a long shot on getting any sort of compensation, but hey, always worth a try, right? To my surprise, the customer service rep offered a FULL refund of the delivery fee, in the form of an IKEA gift card. While a refund to my credit card would have been nicer, I was not going to complain about a $100 IKEA gift card, and thought that was very generous -- I would have been happy with a $25 gift card! If the delivery had not been so bloody expensive, I wouldn't have bothered to even call in, but at $100 for delivery, I expect it to be on time, not an HOUR late. Excellent selection and great prices. Also, they have a great website so you can see everything before coming (which does save you time!) The Scandinavian style is definitely on trend so it's great IKEA has a vast collection. There are a lot of kids running around so be careful where you walk. Service wise, obviously does not really exist. However, going through the cash is usually pain free and quick. If you do need help, service folks are hard to come by. You know what, most of the time I have not so bad ideas... but, hum sometimes I have terrible, terrible ones, like going to Ikea on a Saturday... It does, however, result in some funny moments (at least for me), I came across the typical couples arguing because they couldn't agree on the choice of carpet or because Mr. was in line for the restaurant and didn't wait for Mrs. (true story). Fortunately for me, I went there knowing specifically what I was looking for, given the crowd, there would have been no staff available to help me. I had lunch at their restaurant and had salmon with wheat, with a Caribbean soup and an apple pie: Everything was very good, Then I walked around the store, picked up a few items and went down the aisles to retrieve my article ... which turned out to be a lot bigger and heavier than I thought. 15 minutes later, after having managed to put the two big boxes in my cart, I was able to pay after having to wait for what seemed like an eternity and run away from that place. I'm reviewing ikea's food because, a) it's pretty good, b) it's so cheap, and c) they now have beer. I don't particularly like going to ikea because it's pretty overwhelming, however I'll admit that I have found some very decent and inexpensive items. What I do like about ikea is their cafeteria! It's kind of like the light at the end of the tunnel; after you're fed up of that maze, you can grab a quick bite to relieve all that consumer rage. Most of the menu is pretty meh, and a lot of the prepared wraps in Saran Wrap look plain gross, however, those Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce-- oomph. Hits the spot each time. Now that they serve boreales along with it, the appeal of going to ikea over Leon's has gotten a little bit greater. Ikea's food is like their furniture. No one reviews IKEA. Why? Because everyone's been there and done that. Well, no. I, for one, have never gone to IKEA. My parents thought it was expensive and far away and so I had to endure a childhood where all my friends had matching kitchen counter tops and little wood pencils to spare. Being a fan of everything Northern and Scandinavian, the word "Ikea" was tied with delightful visions of tall, fair people and airy, wooden spaces. Aaahh. Imagine my surprise when I found out the local Ikea was 2 metro stations away from me! You can stop at Crémazie and take the 100 which drops you a block away. Of course, I knew through common pop culture that Ikea furniture was to be assembled by the new owner, and generally accompanied by a leaflet, only understandable by 4 different people, speaking 4-6 different languages. But that was it. My main purpose for going to Ikea, was not buying furniture but FOOD. When I first entered what was, to me, the promised land, I was greeted by a dozen crying babies. WTF?!?!? The day camp/playground greets you, first thing when entering. Oh joy. Second thing: the bathrooms didn't have paper to dry your hands.Where was Dolph Lundgren? Where was Alexander Skarsgard? And my dream started to shatter :( With the help of the much-needed plan, I found the restaurant and lined up..for 30 minutes.. We all know Ikea is cunning as hell: they present you first with the desserts, right when you're most hungry.. I had 10 meatballs and a "Princess cake", The sauce and the jam really made the dish, I have to say I thought it was really pretty good, cafetaria food or not. The princess cake was the really nice surprise: a sponge cake topped by jam and cream, all covered by marzipan. Yeah, the cream is artificial, but the cake was fresh and yummy. For less than 8$, it was a heavy, satisfying meal. That massive meal, and the sheer size if it all induced an unprecedented shopping fatigue and by the time I was in the bathrooms sections,I was ready to take a nap. I know there is a stigma to buying from Ikea, how uncool, how consummerist. But I thought everything was quite lovely and especially liked the model spaces where the actual space limitations are highlighted ("here's what you can do with 32sq,m"!). I had to buy some stuff at the mini supermarket, and my euro parents will be so happy to taste Gooseberry again ^^ All in all, I really wish a tall hunky Swede had been here to hold my hand and guide through that maze. I just found it so nerve-wracking to find my way between the floors/ rooms/ services. As cute as the Swedish names are, the charm can wear off real fast... read more

This is a review of IKEA's customer service! I had disassembled and transported a piece of IKEA furniture. What I didn't realize is that all but one of the locking screws had fallen out during the move! At the IKEA customer service, I presented the screw but the rep couldn't find it. Then he asked me which model of furniture I had. It was a discontinued model. Then he asked me what year I bought the furniture and I responded that it was probably since 2008. He disappears in the back. I'm thinking that he'd just come back and apologize for not supporting the furniture anymore, instead he comes back with an IKEA catalogue from 2008! He pores over the models till he finds the furniture and the corresponding screws and orders them (cause they're no longer in stock) to be shipped to me by mail for free! I'm thrilled cause my IKEA furniture lives on through excellent customer service! read more

So, my mom, grandmother, and I together are basically Ikea ninjas. We don't even go up the stairs or follow the arrows, because that shit is for showroom suckers. We turn right around and go the wrong way and bam we're in the "market" section where everything is actually for sale. We keep each other focused on the list (NO! No coasters! No wicker baskets! No spontaneous glassware damn you, focus!) We move with military precision to our targets, (slow is smooth and smooth is fast!) We go at Grandma-speed because the crowds open up for a cute old lady (she is a shopping shark, but she's cute as hell.) Anyway, this is the only tolerable way to do Ikea. Have a precise and narrow list, have one or two awesome helpers with sharp eyes who don't lose focus; get in and get your on sale lamp or curtains or lounger, get into the self checkout, and then get the frick out. Get out before you're temped by the $.75 "hotdogs," or the invasive exotic "plants," or the hours you could spend in the showroom mentally redecorating and watching the couples turn on each other and their screaming children. read more

I really only come here for the food. I come by after work to avoid rush hour traffic It's mostly well priced on the second floor cafeteria, but the portions are a bit small. Decent food is all have to say. The first floor offers pizza, hot dogs as well as meatballs, ice cream and some desserts. Prices are excellent here. I have regretted almost anything I bought here due to the assembly required. The ikea staff is hard to come by, the place is headache inducing due to the size and cramped parking. But it seems to suit some people's needs, so to each his own read more

I have never had an IKEA near my hometown so everytime I go to one, it's still a bit of a novelty. My wife is absolutely in love with this place. As far as IKEAs go, this one was no different than any of the IKEAs I've been to except that there were an unusually high number of crying babies in there. From what I've found, it's got a lot of pretty cool stuff for a fair price. After the novelty wears off, I begin to get a little bored. I tried the food for the first time and I thought the swedish meatballs were pretty good. It's only $3 for 10 meatballs and fries and I was satisfied after the meal. My wife got the spinach crepes and she was less than impressed with the cold crepes. She was regretting not getting the meatballs for a $1 less than the crepes. I like IKEA but I think if I had one close by then I doubt that I would shop there too often. I think it's more the novelty than anything. read more

This review is for Ikea Home shopping, which is not like the store: you can actually order items online and have them delivered! As good as it sounds, I was astounded by how slow the shipping was in Montreal. It took four business days for them to pick a very simple order of small items, put it in a box and deliver it. Amazon does that in a day or a day and a half tops. My reccomendation is to do things the old-fashioned way: go to Ikea and buy direct. You will avoid the $12 delivery fee, and the slowness of the whole experience. read more

From the always full parking lot to the maze inside the store, this place leads to stress. Sure the hotdogs are great (hence the 2 stars instead of one) but the furniture is cheap and is pretty much standard in every renters home. I love furniture, it helps me grow as an individual but Ikea is the worst. It takes hours to assemble, the quality is garbage and everyone has the same stuff. Ugh. If you want to experience some of the rudest people on earth while trying to shop come to this Ikea. The customers are the worst but the employee had to be the worst. I even considered calling to complain, but more on that later. I have been to Ikea's in other areas that were unsavory and never had such a headache. The store itself is your standard IKEA with food court and cafeteria. The workers were not much help, complaining about having to push my third cart to my car. ( sorry I can only manage 2) Then I asked for help loading and she said she would send some strong guys to help. Never. Showed.UP. Gave myself a hernia loading it myself after waiting 20 mins with no help arriving. One star is for IKEA , i needed some cheap staples quick and they were there for me. It is always nice that they always having nice veggie options for me in the caffy. Thank you. But the employee that made me feel bad and it was her mistake. I was looking at sheets and I kneeled down to see there was a couple of open packages on the bottom shelf. I picked both of them up and felt the material with my finger. I did not open the packages nor did I taken the sheets out. The packages were already open. I was trying to decide if both these packages of sheets were the same material ,when out of no where ,this French speaking woman comes up to me, GRABS both packages out of my hands, points to the samples that are tacked up above the display,says something in a harsh manner in French then leaves. I was so shocked, it took me a few seconds to realize what happened. She apparently thought that I was opening packages. I was not. But that this rude person grabbed them out of my hands still blows my mind. Thinking back on the incident I should have complained to cusomer service before I left but I had 3 baskets of stuff and I was exhausted and we had already asked for some help from an employee and they are at best apathetic. So I know my complaint would fall on deaf ears. What do they care right? Other then that I will never step foot in a place where the customers push you out of the way, get in your way while you are trying to push this heavy cart and the workers dont seem to want to help. This Ikea is now under renovation in many parts including paving the parking lot! Come for the cheap food, get suckered into buying some of their particle board/hex key furniture. I will admit Ikea is very hand for many items! Lighting is very inexpensive and trendy, if you are organizing a room they have many clever ways in which you can organize your mess at home! Artwork is inexpensive and stylish as well! Also the plants are quite inexpensive. What I loathe is finding something in the showroom then having to go find the article by aisle and bin #. This form of shopping (as it cuts down on price) is not fun at all. You may like Ikea, you may not. I'm caught in the middle! Excellent for students and people on a limited budget. This location has to have one of the mostly poorly designed parking lots I have ever seen. If you "miss" finding a parking lot on the first pass (sometimes impossible), all routes lead you out of the lot (there's no way to retry), you have to uturn to go out into the communityand try all over again. This creates unnecessary traffic, congestion, and aggressive behaviour. read more

Oh Ikea. Coming here is always an adventure and requires a whole lot of patience. This location is a zoo even if you manage to get there early. The parking lot is almost always full and navigating the store can be annoying due to the volume of people. The furniture is cheap and to be honest the last time I went I didn't see anything that caught my eye. The cafeteria is cheap and the food isn't too bad so it gets bonus points for that. It will take a lot more than that though to make me want to brave the madness. read more
