While visiting the nearby Basilica de Guadalupe it was lunch time and I was hungry. Searching for…read moreanything close by led to frustration as there appeared to be very little to choose from. I decided to try Pastes Kiko's as it appeared to be a chain eatery and might be my best chance for something decent to eat. Inside it didn't look appealing at all but I decided to try a paste (like an empanada) with ham and cheese in it and a bottle of water. It was small and served at room temperature. It was almost tasteless and boring to eat. Since it was so small, I ordered a second one but this time asked for it to be heated. While the outside crust was warm the ham and cheese inside wasn't. Blah. I wish so had walked into a nearby Oxxo and got a hotdog. I thought about giving a 2 score here but really don't think this product could be improved and will give a 1 instead. I thought it was that bad.....

It was quite good and something quite distinct than what you typically find in Mexico. I noticed this store while I was walking by and I thought I would try another keke. This time I ordered the Hawaiian keke. It was already prepared and served right from the warming oven. It wasn't a bad deal at all for just 25 pesos. I liked it and I enjlyed the change from everyday tacos.

We order pan de dulce for the table and we got 2 conchas, soft and warm just made. A chocolate roll and a fig and nata pastry along with coffee for the table. We order hievos rancheros with the red sauce. Huevos revueltos con chorizo, omelete con flor de calabaza y tamal de elote con crema. We also order a birria de res to share with the table. Service was very quick, efficient and friendly menus can be had in english or Spanish . My daughter order a hot chocolate with preparation table side, she said it was amazing. Fantastic place for brunch but arrive before 9:45am otherwise lines and some slight wait after 10am.

No music beyond the 2 guitar player going around table to table to see if you wanted a serenade. Skipped their offer 1st time around. Pretty quiet, bright and clean. Found that waiter spoke a little English and with our little Spanish got things done. Menus are bilingual Spanish-English. Ordered 4 lamb tacos, chile en nogada, cooked chicken in green sauce and a fish dish (forgot name, little spicy) then a coke, horchata and a pineapple drink. We got chips, cheese, sauce while waiting. Those were all nicely done but average. Dishes out maybe 10 min later. All presented well and hot. We shared each dish. Lamb tacos nicely done, little dry, but they give you some guacamole, a brown sauce, along with the green sauce and cheese with the tortilla chips. Nice, not fatty. Next was the chiles en nogada. First time tried this and really enjoyed, many flavors and nicely flavored beef. In general little on sweet side, so probably couldn't eat more than 1. The chicken in green sauce was a homey, comfort food. Nicely cooked chicken leg and thigh was an ever so slightly spicy sauce. Also came with tortilla wraps and Spanish riceLastly was the spicy baked fish. Done well, fell apart pretty easily, was spicy, but not too much. Had green beans on side done well, not too soft or hard, and Spanish rice. Drinks were all a hit. Coke is coke. Horchata and pineapple juice served in big mugs. Pineapple tastes freshly squeezed and horchata was a super solid example in every way. Oh almost forgot, later in the meal we figured out how to get the 2 guitar fellows to play for us. 2 songs for 300 peso, about 7min total. They did a good job with both the guitar and singing, was enjoyable to listen to them. Would stop back again if in area.

I ordered just the plain waffle to see what it tasted like. They have a couple different marmelada flavors which definitely helped with the taste. I thought that the waffle wasn't prepared very well, it seemed like it was just slapped together in a hurry. I would have to concur with some other reviewers though in that they service was not that great. Actually the only nice person was the hostess who even helped me translate some of the menu items. Everyone else, including the Server and even the Manager we're not friendly- at all! I had asked for butter, and what I got was a Mary look, and then the employee just walked away. I would not let the name of the place fool you, this is not a specialty waffle restaurant by any stretch. There are far better options in the mall, and even on the street!

If you don't want to wait in the guaranteed line at Panaderia Rosetta across town for the famous guava roll, then come here it's the same bakery! It had indoor and outdoor and covered outdoor seating. It was awesome to sit outside and listen to the rain while I inhaled my bakery items. The guava roll of course- fabulous. They even have the jam you can take home with you. They also have a menu of non bakery items. I highly recommend this spot!

We were told the wait would be 30mins but it was over an hour. At some point the staff member removed our name from the list despite us standing right next to the door and waiting (and asking for updates) the whole time. The host was apologetic about this and tried her best to make up for it with a good table. Eventually we were seated and the menu was great. Really delicious food choices ranging from my Mexican flavors to more basic Western options. Scrambled eggs looked good, the piadina was delicious, as were the chilaquiles! Plenty of fresh juice options and pastries (from Rosetta)!
