Why would you go away from an interview to a game when you're already broadcasting on your sister…read morechannel? You guys suck at programming! If it had been UC or X there's no way tou would have gone away!!! If I had another choice I would definitely go to it!!

Cincinnati may not be New York or Boston or L.A., but it's still a huge sports town with the likes…read moreof the Reds, Bengals, a ton of local college teams, and even the Kelly Cup champion Cincinnati Cyclones in the area. WCKY 1530 Homer: The Sports Animal is the only real sports talk radio station in the area, but there only needs to be one when 1530 is that good. 1530 Homer, the "official home of the Bengals," has a great on-air lineup of talk show hosts during the week, and of course they cover some great games on the weekends, including the Bengals during football season. The on-air talent begins on your morning drive to work with "The Cut Man," Alan Cutler, a long-time Bengals Radio Network host, who is then followed from 9:00 a.m. to Noon by Mo Egger. The Sports Animal then goes national by playing Fox's nationally syndicated program, The Jim Rome Show. From 3-6 and then "reloaded" from 6-7 is Lance McAlister, while Fox broadcasts again take over from 7:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Paid programming until the morning...sorry insomniacs. Now I can't say that I listen to sports radio all the time as I usually prefer jamming to music, but 1530 is great. I've never caught Alan Cutler during the morning, but he's really good when he covers the Bengals before and after games. Mo Egger, meanwhile, is good too and can relate not only to sports fans, but also to the younger generation too with his "hip" interests and personality. Jim Rome from 12-3 is always a winner because, as he would probably say about himself, he is "that good." Lance McAlister, meanwhile, is just awesome. He says he has the best job in the world: getting paid to talk about the teams he grew up with. Lance really knows and understands his local and national sports and has great topics he likes to discuss with listeners, as opposed to simply rambling. The phrase "long time listener" really applies to the Lance McAlister Show as people have listened to him for years. If you don't have the chance to catch him on air too often, he runs a great blog too (as do the other hosts) with any and everything you'd want to know about Cincinnati and national sports, all of the stats you could want and more, and sometimes just great links. If you're a sports lover headed to work in the morning and it's too early to blast your Rihanna CD, definitely turn your radio to 1530 AM. Even better, wind down the day with a dose of the Lance McAlister Show and you won't be disappointed.

After a few months of listening to Kiss 107, I've concluded the following:…read more1) Kiss 107, while it is known for playing the top mainstream songs, tends to overplay ALL of them. 2) Though the station does have commercial free hours, the end of every other song is greeted by a long, boring, annoying, (need i say more?), you guessed it... commercial. 3) When the station is not playing music or doing a commercial, the DJs seize the opportunity to talk about pointless topics that compliment the pointless pop music of the era (but that's another story...) Anyway, they take in calls from listeners to answer questions like, "Where would you take your first date?" or, like Jordan C. mentioned, "Is your boyfriend cheating?" Honestly, if I had to get first date advice from a radio station, I would be ashamed. Oh, well... How many mainstream music fans would listen to a killjoy like me?

I don't remember which radio station says that they play "all of today's best music," but it…read moredefinitely would make sense if it were WKFS- Kiss 107 FM (107.1). Kiss has been my favorite radio station for a long time--or at least the one I most often list to--as I am more of the radio guy then the person who is a major music fan who knows all these random lesser known bands. I like a little something to drive to or just sit and listen to when I have nothing else to do, that's all. And Kiss plays, more or less, what I want to hear, although they often kill some of the best songs by over playing them. Kiss also has a good line up of DJs beginning with Kiss Mornings (Tim and George 6-10a), followed by Michelle Taylor (10a-3p), Jordan (3-7p), and Hurley (7p-12a) during the week. Each does their music playing thing, but they also have their own blogs up on kisscincinnati.com. The best time to listen to Kiss, however, is Saturday nights from roughly 10:00 p.m. to 1 or 2 a.m. "Club Kiss," as it is called, is led by DJ Sab who plays nothing but great songs, which includes a lot of remixes of the popular songs. There's nothing better to listen to in the car if you are driving home after a fun Saturday night out. Overall, Kiss 107 is a great station and probably my favorite. One kind of annoying thing is that the DJs talk so much about silly stuff like, 'Do you think your boyfriend is cheating?' or Miley Cyrus this, Britney Spears that. Most of its just trash, but it is funny to listen to what the callers have to say. Kiss is also part of the Party in the Park events every other Wednesday this summer at Sawyer Point which are fun if you are 21 and up.

I listen to the morning programs several times a week and learn from these discussions - which…read moreoften have point-counterpoint. however, I was absolutely appalled by the discussion pertaining to birds and protecting them. First of all, I love birds and feed them regularly in my yard and offer them fresh water and some habitat opportunities. I also care for fixed, vaccinated stray cats and contrary to the false claims by the bird people, they are NOT the No. 1 cause of massive loss of birds! Studies by the bird conservationists people, debunked long ago by the Humane Society of the United States and many others, continue to surface. "No empirically driven estimate un-owned cat abundance exists for the U.S." (HSUS) "There is no evidence that cat predation harms bird species at the population level, or that cat predation has ever affected the survival of an endangered bird species in the continental U.S. Habitat and sport hunting" have impacted lots of bird species As one bird conservationist noted: There is more bird diversity in Central Park in NYC than in Yellowstone - and aren't there a whole lot more domestic cats in the suburbs than in Yellowstone? Leading scientists from various disciplines note that climate change, habitat destruction and development are the leading causes of species loss. In fact, loss of birds due to cat predation ranks around 10th or so on the list of leading causes. Get it right!! And please present these viewpoints as well!!

I don't really have high praise for radio of any kind - there is just so much out there now that…read moreyou can download as a podcast and listen to on your own time, instead of wasting it on someone blathering on and on or commercial interruption - but WVXU is a solid National Public Radio (NPR) station that hosts a breadth of programming from NPR, PRI, and American Public Media. There are really three public radio stations in town - WVXU, WGUC, and WNKU - and, up until about a year ago, they were all broadcasting some part of the NPR slate. But then WGUC (the University of Cincinnati station) and WVXU (the Xavier station) combined forces, and VXU took over all of the national NPR programming and GUC focused it's efforts on classical. WNKU (Northern Kentucky University's station) then dropped a lot of it's programming that VXU was also airing, and started focusing more of it's efforts on more eclectic offerings and local programming. And that's where WVXU fails - there isn't much local or original programming coming out of Cincinnati Public Radio that provokes any interest - NKU and even WYSO in Yellow Springs have much more dynamic original programming.
