It's also a large resource for the growing arts community in Cincinnati. The paper has a liberal voice in such a heavy conservative community. The listings of events, performances, auditions, and other opportunities is extensive and never misses a beat. They occasionally have special editions devoted to green initiatives, dining editions, a women's issue, and issues about current events. Some of the columns are syndicated and also appear in the alternative news in other large cities. However, most of them are locally written. I have to admit that sometimes I just do the crossword even though it's a great paper.

A few weeks ago I really enjoyed an article about the different ways to commute to work as I'm considering my options with the current gas prices. Then this past week there was a whole Fringe Festival edition of the paper. They always have interesting staff questions of the week and really make a point to have the staff be really visible to the readers. It's a great alternative paper to City Beat and the Enquirer. It picks up where they left off nicely. Also the crossword puzzle is always fun yet a challenge!

While the ad was published, the magazines and plaques never arrived and when calling an emailing we have been given the run around. I would love to get on here and say they made it right but at this point we are looking to taking at a step forward in order to get what we were promised since we have evidence of what they said we were purchasing in a proposal package.

It was a little dry for me....I read a few photo captions and some headlines, but nothing really grabbed my attention. Although I have a degree in business, I chose to work in the education and social services areas, so take that into consideration when you read this review. I did find the layout attractive and I'm sure those in the business world would speak highly to the content.

All of their advertisements are for local businesses in the greater Cincinnati area. I notice a good deal of jewelry store and boutique advertisements. The magazine often has special themes aimed at the city and city issues. Last December there was a great issue that listed the "Best of the City". The best ice cream, piercings, food, jewelry, active life, and much more! It's a great magazine to have to find out about places you've never heard of before. It has lots of photos, quite a few ads, also community news and some articles, local business reviews and several regular columns. In the May 2008 issue I read about a local author, Ellen Everman, and a column called From my Kitchen Table caught my eye because of its title: Cooking for the Pope.

The Boone County Recorder appeals to the voyeur in me. Every Thursday, I pick up the rag to find…read moreout who's been arrested, who's getting married, and who's getting foreclosed on. It's really my guilty pleasure. I'm pretty happy with some of the recent format changes to the paper. Now, the newspaper is divided into two main sections: news and life/entertainment. I use the term "news" loosely, because we're not talking hard hitting journalism here. Pretty much just informative articles about county government happenings and other local civic activities. The "Life" section of the paper is filled with human interest puff pieces, but when you know the people who are featured the stories become more engaging. I wouldn't really recommend this paper to someone who was from out of town, since so much of the content is directed toward residents. If you like to go to garage sales (which is another of my voyeuristic guilty pleasures), the Recorder contains the listings for all Community Press newspapers in Greater Cincinnati. Overall, the Recorder isn't going to win any Pulitzer prizes but it's the number one choice for keeping tabs on your neighbors.
