I won tickets and during my call, the DJ/hosts I interacted with were friendly and the receptionist was also nice. As far as the music played on the station, it is usually pretty good. The mix of 80s, 90s, and 00s adult contemporary music is good for most occasions. If you do need to visit the station, try to park in the limited number of visitor spots and not the roundabout or an assigned spot. Do you like being towed? ha ha Fun fact: WREW 94.9 is owned by Hubbard Radio LLC based out of Minneapolis. In 2011, the 17 station deal rang it at 505 million (cash deal). Phew!

Over-played songs by overrated musicians, long commercial breaks, and censorship of radio personalities make FM radio almost unlistenable. The Sound doesn't break the rules or offer up anything original. However, of all the sub-par radio stations in the area, this one at least plays songs that I know the words to. Probably because these "alternative" tunes been played to death, but most are tolerable. On any given day, it's almost guaranteed you' hear Sublime, Greenday, Fall Out Boy, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are trying to appeal to the broadest swath of indie music lovers , from Gen X to Gen Y to Gen Z (don't even know if they're called that, but you know what I mean), yet almost all bands on their playlist come from huge record labels. So much for independent music.

Weird, my fam met his fam and I worked with members of his fam. The original studio was on the West side in Price Hill. I visited. It was in a blue house with a barber chair on the front porch and the Wood spaniel taxidermied in the office on a bookshelf. There was a room full of Scullys for night shows. That may have influenced my geeky professions. The studios moved to Hyde Park, with the children. The studio has moved many times since and doubt the original family is involved. Today they are a generic broadcast profit vacuum. They could easily get to 5 stars with programming. They did originally, as the very early equivalent of commercial radio as college radio. Radio to listen. I listened to a lot of their wired music I thank every day for my weird musical tastes.

I also care for fixed, vaccinated stray cats and contrary to the false claims by the bird people, they are NOT the No. 1 cause of massive loss of birds! Studies by the bird conservationists people, debunked long ago by the Humane Society of the United States and many others, continue to surface. Leading scientists from various disciplines note that climate change, habitat destruction and development are the leading causes of species loss. I don't really have high praise for radio of any kind - there is just so much out there now that…read moreyou can download as a podcast and listen to on your own time, instead of wasting it on someone blathering on and on or commercial interruption - but WVXU is a solid National Public Radio (NPR) station that hosts a breadth of programming from NPR, PRI, and American Public Media. There are really three public radio stations in town - WVXU, WGUC, and WNKU - and, up until about a year ago, they were all broadcasting some part of the NPR slate. But then WGUC (the University of Cincinnati station) and WVXU (the Xavier station) combined forces, and VXU took over all of the national NPR programming and GUC focused it's efforts on classical. WNKU (Northern Kentucky University's station) then dropped a lot of it's programming that VXU was also airing, and started focusing more of it's efforts on more eclectic offerings and local programming. And that's where WVXU fails - there isn't much local or original programming coming out of Cincinnati Public Radio that provokes any interest - NKU and even WYSO in Yellow Springs have much more dynamic original programming.
