Nicole's Dance Center - Fun dance class

Nicole's Dance Center

Avery has been attending Nicole's Dance Center since she was 4 years old (almost two years now),…read moreand she's worked with Ms. Nicole and Ms. Katie. She has grown so much in her dance skills, but just as importantly, she truly enjoys going and has built a sense of "family" there. Ms. Nicole and Ms. Katie are very encouraging, but also direct and firm when corrections are needed, which really helps the girls continue improving their technique. They truly believe that if a child has a passion for dance, they deserve a chance to grow. The atmosphere is also incredibly positive- there's no "catty" behavior among the kids or parents, which makes it such a supportive and welcoming environment. Avery has taken both ballet/tap and ballet/jazz classes, and one thing I love is how supportive the environment is. The older dancers are always helping each other out and sharing tips and tricks, which makes such a positive difference. She really looks up to the older girls as role models. We're nearing the end of our first competition season, and it's been an amazing experience so far. Pricing is more affordable versus other studios in Tampa and given to you ahead of time so there's no surprises. Overall, we've had a great experience at Nicole's Dance Center, and I'm excited to keep watching my little one grow there.

These classes include jazz and tap, acro, hip hop and ballet. A lot of these dance styles have both beginning and intermediate level classes and there are a few adult and mom and baby classes as well. They also have "company" classes which are for the dancers who travel and compete in competitions. My daughter has had two classes taught by the owner, Nicole Bouchard. Nicole is a great instructor. She expertly balances the fun of dance with the seriousness of putting on a good show at the end of the year. She exhibits patience with her students, but also knows what buttons to push in order to motivate them. She knows when to listen and when to tell them to cut the garbage and get to work. She is very communicative and will take a few moments after class to let me know how my daughter did. Nicole's has a couple of other instructors as well. They empower some of the older company dancers by having them teach classes too. Nicole's studio houses two classrooms. Their schedule correlates with Pasco County Schools. If school is closed, the studio is as well. If school is in session, so is the studio. Each class has a final performance at the end of May or beginning of June. It is optional, not required. This final performance includes fancy outfits and makeup and happens on a large stage at a local private high school. This means professional level lighting and sound. They really go all out to do it right. If you are looking for a dance studio in the Land O' Lakes area that offers dance instruction and social learning with a small, intimate and personal touch, give Nicole's Dance Center a call or stop by for a visit.

After a false start at another studio where I didn't feel appreciated, I found Jane and Fritzi (RIP) who immediately let me know I was in a place where the love of dance was paramount and that "NO PRESSURE" was their modus operandi. Jane makes sure that fees are affordable and that every class is filled with substance and laughter. I'm looking forward to many more spins around their new expanded dance floor!

I did some classes with a specific niche dance teacher who isn't a "regular" teacher at this studio…read morebut instead paid to use the space. This review isn't about the teacher but about everything else. So if you're thinking about using them for your own rental (or booking for photo shoots like their site mentions), this review is for you. Every time I was there one of the two owners would sit and watch the majority of the class with their pet dog that would lounge on the furniture at the front or in their retail area. It's really inappropriate and distracting. One time someone stepped in dog crap inside and tracked it around the front seating area. Just... ew. Gross. Do these ladies bring their pets when they teach or is it only when someone else pays to use the space? One of the owners micromanaged the sound level the whole time she was there. Mind you, the speaker never popped or crackled or hit a level to worry about damaging it, nor were the neighboring businesses open to complain... I'm still laughing about it because their site boasts that they have quality sound but then don't want to let you use it. And then the chiming in when she had no business because it wasn't her class. If I wanted a boomer's opinion about something I would call my mom. From a student's perspective, this is objectively a nice studio space... If the floors didn't have a hump in one section, a ton of windows with no curtain thus blinding half the room perfectly with reflections from the sun, and a lingering buzzkill while you're trying to enjoy a class. I understand they're probably paranoid about their merchandise growing legs and walking off, but is there nothing they could do in a back corner to not feel like they're being a spectator? The decoration is cute, they have rotating artists set up their work, and this place has a lot of potential to be great. But either they need to have a system to trust the person teaching and give them a spare key (there's interior cameras...) or they need to figure out better customer service skills. It's like the boomeriest boomer that ever boomed opened up a business so they had something to do with their time. I wish these two the best of luck with their other classes and hope my experiences are unique to the times I was there.
