I informed him that I would be the oldest person in there by 20 years and he would be the oldest by 40 years and that would have been true had there been anyone else there. But no. To be fair it was 8pm on a Thursday night and the Faces crowd don't usually turn up for a couple more hours so I don't think that's typical. But anyway... Once my eyes had got accustomed to the retina-burning neon pink and blue decor I sat at the bar to choose my drink. It's a cocktail bar, what better than a martini right? Ummmm, no. The 12 year old barman said 'sorry we don't do martinis, we don't have any vermouth'. This is like going to a sushi bar and them saying 'sorry no fish' - genuine WTF moment right there. So I had a bellini in a plastic champagne glass. The boss expressed some surprise at this but I told him it's probably for the best when your clientele is the 'quantity over quality, belligerent binge-drinker' type. The last thing you need when you dare to look at someone funny in the girl's toilets is for them to have a dangerous weapon in hand. I also had a cosmopolitan. In a plastic martini glass. With a straw so you can get it down your neck quicker. Awesome. We decided to leave having been there for an hour with no further patrons walking through the door. But don't listen to me - if you're 18, sporting five inch heels and a mahogany spray tan and are looking to get liquored up in order to bag a footballer then this is the place for you. I will say one thing though. I'm old enough to remember the 80s FIRST TIME ROUND and nothing was this '80s' even then. I mean check out the sign! It should say 'Cocktails (except martinis) and Dreams'. And I can't give a good score to a bar that plays Phil Collins. I'm off to the pub for a gin and tonic IN A PROPER GLASS.

The Seven Kings of yesteryear is now lost in the wind, except for the lovely gem of a place that is O'Gradys. Irish Bars are everywhere. They're often pretty annoying, and not very Irish at all. But O'Gradys is the exception to the rule. Irish-owned, many Irish staff and is frequented, in the main, by the Irish. I'm not Irish, at least not fully - but I am really comfortable here. It has a real friendly, family vibe to it; even when it's crammed full of people on a Saturday night. I should warn you that if the Irish Rugby or football team are playing, you're going to have a hard time getting to the bar. It's worth it though. If you're Irish, this will feel like home; as opposed to many of the Irish bars in Central London which feel just like the Irish bars in New York or in Ibiza or wherever; just a stupid ploy to get the English and Irish to spend their money. I've had some fun nights here; and as I touched upon previously; it's just nice to find somewhere in the Ilford area that isn't tainted by attitude. I wouldn't necessarily make the trip out to Essex especially; but if you're in the area you could do a lot worse than go to O'Gradys.

The club does get packed but because its quite big there's still enough room to move/dance. The drinks wasn't too expensive it was average priced considering it is just outside London, but now the downside to this night club is you got to sign up to a membership on the door which costs £30 I believe, this one membership allowed all of us entry which was a party of around 10+ but we still had to pay the entrance fee on top of that which was £10 each. The problem is they don't make you aware that you have to sign up on their website if you haven't been before, the doormen make up the rules as they go along I think because I see other people walk through without showing a membership.

The pub itself is largely intact from it's previous form in that it has kept more of the old school decor around. We waited almost two hours in the rain, barely moving in line, and I really needed to use the bathroom but kept holding it because we were finally close to the front. My girlfriend handed me my ID, and when I followed her under the line divider to get back in our spot, the security guard saw her give me my ID and still shoved me out of the line with no warning at all. I wasn't trying to cut or cause any issues -- we'd already been waiting the whole time. When my girlfriend tried to ask what was going on, he shoved her too, again without saying a word. It was completely uncalled for and honestly really upsetting. To make things worse, two of our friends went inside and paid extra without even telling us, after we had all waited together. The whole situation was chaotic, unprofessional, and handled terribly. Between the lack of communication, poor organization, and aggressive security, this was one of the worst nights out I've had in London. I have never gotten kicked out of a night club or shoved! WOW

I love how relax this Docklands neighborhood is, I was told that it was practically nothing here back in the days, although the area is not particularly bustling on the weekends, it is an ideal place to visit to escape London's craziness. Since we decided to hang a little bit more in the area after taking in the Emirates Line, the Oiler Bar suited what we were looking for, a place to chill while enjoying a glass of the local beer, and the water park as the backdrop. It is a barge docked and transformed into an open air bar that serves wide variety of local beers and some selections of wines. It was truly relaxing experience especially on a nice sunny day. This place is highly recommended, I will definitely visit again!
