The only issue is the environment making this school looking bad, and planting the wrong thing here. Not everyone here is bad trouble but that's the only reason why Del Valle is looked at the way it is. Started out here whenever Del Valle made the first sports facility in a high school in the nation!! I was lucky and really surprised to get to be able to workout and play sports here at the facility when it opened. It served me well in getting my BBA in MIS from UT, and in my career to follow. While I skipped a lot of class, and most teachers found me to be an uncontrollable prick - some of them saw my potential, and directed all that energy into positive outlets. They got me my first internship in the IT industry at the age of 16, and the AP classes they offer placed me out of 12 hours of college classes. That said, the school does have the same issues all urban public schools have: dipshit hooligan kids and totally disengaged parents. There is opportunity to thrive here, but your kids will have to be ambitious, or they'll slip through the cracks. Ethnically, not very diverse... which meant about 4 years of being called 'white boy.' Been a number of years since I've been back - but as long as they keep the computer science and networking programs funded, I'd highly recommend giving them a look.
