This library is having a large book sale in their basement. if you enjoy reading they have a big selection. I bought these two books for only $1.00 each so $2.00 for both. I've always liked Laura Bush ( brand new, never been used) and the other book is stories by Alfred Hitchcock which should be fun. this area of the library is worth checking out and the books are in very good condition. read more

Beautiful library to bring my four kids aging from toddler to teenager. We loved the koi fish pond, super relaxing. I will agree they didn't understand it was a library because of the setup of everything, so the noise level for the children section was that of your average store. But as a mom, I don't mind that. The small shopping carts available for my toddlers to push as they pick their books was fun! I haven't got to explore much outside of that level, but I'm very excited to do so. Signing up was easy, It was done on the second floor, up the ramp to the left. The woman helping us was very nice and engaging. Patient as well as she had to sign each of the kids up for a card. I will be taking my kids weekly! Great "little" library! So happy to have upgraded from our horrible stinky one back in California. read more

I love the Idaho Falls library. We sold our house in Pocatello and are living in our RV while we are building our new home. I have been using the library as my home office for the last couple of months. The computer center is great, The printer is awesome, although a little expensive at $.10 a page. The book selection is incredible, we have been using it to help us in decorating and designing our new home. My only complaint is the one hour time allotment for computer usage and a 24 hour day. I understand needing to Limit the time when all the computers are in use, but when there are only two or three people using the computer lab, it is irritating to be rushed out. That being said I still give the Idaho Falls library five stars, it has served me well and the staff is great! read more

We love the Idaho Falls public library, although it may not completely love us back. Five years ago we moved to IF, and the library was our regular haunt. The kids were much younger then--5, 4 and 2--so we definitely took advantage of the great children's section which is sizable and comes complete with different reading programs. Also, they never kicked us out for being rowdy, which would have been completely justified at times. Once, after hunting down all the Spiderman books at the IF library, I returned to the reading mat to find my youngest son engaged in a ruthless public brawl with his sister. He had fistfuls of my daughter's hair, and she was in full-freak mode with her head back, her mouth open and...nothing. That is, until she caught her breath. Of course that says more about our family than the library, but the fact that they've often tolerated our presence is worth mentioning. I also love their notification system. If you give them your email address or phone number they will warn you when your library items are due. One year ago we moved to another state where they randomly informed you, by phone, when your library books and/or videos were past due (it was like a bizarre library lottery or something). We kept one video out for a week (they charged one dollar per day for overdue videos) and didn't let us know. By the time we turned it I had to consider taking out a loan to reinstate our library privileges. Not that we haven't owed the Idaho Falls Library any overdue fees, but at least we had been sufficiently warned. In fact, our fines may have single-handedly funded the remodel of the children's section, which is phenomenal, by the way. My daughter was sad to have seen the animal bean bags go (which surprises me because that is where the aforementioned brawl took place, an event seared into my memory), but I love the whimsical couches and the new layout--it's much more open and welcoming. As a freelance writer, I have taken advantage of the library's free wifi countless times. Whether my own cable is out or I just need a change of scenery, I love to sit on the top floor in the magazine section to write my heart out. And although they have a strict no cell phone policy, I have enjoyed many library patrons' conversations, including one man who felt completely at ease discussing the terms of his parole by the newspapers. They have a pretty expansive video section, although you can't check out as many videos as you once could. But still, that's how I watched the first three seasons of Ghost Whisperer and the entire series of Jericho. You can't beat that! The Idaho Falls Library is one of my favorite places in IF. In fact, my kids couldn't wait to come back after we returned, and their nagging for full library privileges may have been what ultimately convinced me to get my Idaho drivers license. I'm not sure how to review this beautiful place. Libraries are always my "home," I feel right at place. I did not feel right at place here. I am currently a Rexburg resident, and that's my mistake, namely for two reasons: the very limited general selection and heavily religious selection at the Rexburg library, and the Idaho Falls Public Library's surprising policy. I asked what the process was to get a library card, and was told by the sweet (but reluctant), and perhaps even embarrassed, librarian at the desk that it would cost $120 a year for a library card. 120.00. Dollars. Annually. She said their patrons that paid the fee compared it to say, a Netflix membership. Since when, however, do we need to be "members" of an exclusive library club? Perhaps there are reasons I don't know, their website doesn't give much information as to why, but I was shocked. I love the beautiful little garden they have on the first floor with the koi fish ponds and fronds and benches. I love the spiraling ramp that takes you floor to floor. I love the selection most of all, full of updated and lovely books. I love the atmosphere, all beautiful and funded by tax dollars. I just don't love that I have to pay out the nose to enjoy it. read more

Reading is becoming a thing of the past. Sometimes I worry that libraries will become nonexistent someday. I have very fond memories of the library growing up. The children's section used to be upstairs. They used to have animals like gerbils and hamsters for the kids to look at. They also would occasionally have a "Guess how many gumballs are in the jar and win" contests which were always fun. Downstairs you had a video room. I have a very nice memory of watching Pete's Dragon there. Many years later and some changes have been made. Some good, some not so good. So let's start with what is likeable about the Idaho Falls Public Library. Books are always worth reading. A book can teach children and adults much knowledge and where else can you let your imagination run wild then getting lost in a book? Another great feature is the pond at the front of the library inside. It is always relaxing to sit and watch the fish. I remember when people would throw pennies into the pond and it was later put to a stop after they found out it wasn't healthy for the fish. Also make sure you don't touch the water either as this can also harm them as well. So the only complaints I have now is that, the library isn't really a library anymore. Instead of having your books checked out by a person, they now have you do it by machine. I can't understand why anybody would want a machine to check out their items. Of course we live in the day and age of "I want it now!" So of course this is starting to become the norm at many businesses. Another thing that is very frustrating is the noise level. I understand that children make noise and people as well but a library is supposed to be a quiet zone. Please try to talk in a whisper while at the library. Perhaps one of the worst thing the library has done lately is redoing the whole parking lot. I think it was fine just as it is and I'm not sure why they had to fix it. Also I don't know why they took out the slant down towards the doors. I liked it better the other way. I also wish more trains went down the track by the library. Every time they went by it was a rush! People never look for them anymore because the track is hardly used. read more

It's better than the new Nampa library just because it's been bigger and better for 30 years and is still serving so many patrons they can hardly keep up. My mom works there, though, so I may be a little biased. read more

I've been going to this library ever since I was a little girl. I've grown up with a love for books, and going to the library has always been fun. I've only been to a couple of other libraries, but this library far surpasses the others. Not only does it have a great selection of books, the workers are very friendly and helpful, and it's an absolutely beautiful building as well. Good location, too. read more
