They have a great selection of general materials and are also a bit of a repository for many archival materials, as well. I know people that work here and everyone that I have received assistance from have been friendly and professional. The student lounge is cool and comfortable. They have couches, tables, and many power centers for you to use and recharge your electronic devices. They also have vending machines and a gigantic chess set in the shape of an Aztec temple. I should have taken a picture of that one. In any event, the Oboler Library is a cool spot to visit and study in and I will definitely be back to use its wonderful services. Oh, and they're open until midnight most days depending on the semester.

The student lounge on the first floor is great for lounging around and doing homework. They have 2 drink vending machines and 1 snack vending machine. They even have a fish tank. The fishies are so cute! The staff at the library is kind and helpful. If you have any sort of research question like how to find an article...the reference staff will be more than happy to help you. This library is a great place.

No greeting--no nod, no smile, no acknowledgment at all. When I did find the book I was looking for I was informed by the male librarian that I was on the wrong side of the desk for checkout. So, I moved over. He sat down, did something with my card, the book and a stamp. Mumbled something about when it was due (I think) and then he left the book lying on the desk in front of him, rather than picking it up and handing it to me. While he was checking me out the two female librarians chatted on the other side of the desk. No eye contact from either woman. I love libraries. I recently moved to the area and could hardly wait to get my library card because libraries can bring people together and help them feel like they fit in until they truly do. Not here. Apparently, at the Portneuf Library, reading is NOT fun and libraries are NOT great.

It's the kind of place you could easily get lost in for hours. What makes it especially interesting are the unique and obscure sections. You'll find everything from Japanese writing and culture to American war documents, along with fascinating historical materials. There were even vintage Pocatello postcards and books featuring famous photographers like Edward Weston. They also host open mic nights, which feels so friendly and community oriented. Honestly we didn't even see a single employee while we were there, but we had a lovely time wandering wherever we wanted and exploring the space. Cozy, a little wild, and completely packed with things to discover. A dream spot for curious readers. Great finds and used books are priced well.

It can be a little overwhelming but to me it makes it all the more fun to look around. I found this incredible Capote hardback biography as well as two Eudora Welty special edition books! Those are just the ones I bought. I was browsing for about 40 minutes and then worked up the courage to bug the owner and it was worth it Will Peterson was born and raised in Idaho and actually has two books out and working on a third! He commented on my book buys (the capote biography, two Welty novels, and an Agatha Christie) and the conversation went to Mississippi gothic writing, scotch vs whiskey, and yes I told him he had some harsh yelp reviews! And I gotta say all of these reviews that are mean I don't understand if you want an experience and truly love books, you will have a fantastic time here. 5 books for 35$ and they will stay in my collection forever

My favorite place to be on campus is the performing arts center. It is so beautiful! The library is cool, too. The professors are knowledgeable of what they are teaching. The idea that some people come to work, not scream and holler, is a foreign concept here. The staff has no problem with all the kids showing up and calling over to the desk, or to each other. It's like a big rompus room. So much for the work that I needed to get done. One of the noisiest libraries I've ever been in.

They also have really nice summer program , encouraging younger generation of kids 2-12 to read.Most entertainment options are affordable nowadays and people read much less , than what they used to few decades ago so it is nice to see someone make an effort to encourage young kids to read.The only improvement I could possibly think of to the summer program would be to consider parent's point of view : f.e. if kids ages 2+ are allowed than toys given to them should not be marked "small parts not for kids under age 3 " , also it probably sounds like fun for a kid to play with water and to get wet, but not so much for a parent of wet kids , who has to drive them around. Oh and do not Google their hours in summer library closes much earlier than 8 pm .
