If they have a maintenance department, it is less part-time than the team. Be sure to take your own leftover COVID disinfecting wipes with you to wipe down the restroom facilities before use. After they take away any snacks and water you have brought with you at the front gate (unlike the Major League stadiums), it takes 90 minutes standing in line waiting for the cluster-fork employees working the concession counters to buy an over-priced brat and a cup of ice with a few ounces soda and the rest foam. It was a good thing my radio earbuds were noise-blocking to filter out the blaring music and drivel from the overdriven PA system. General manager Kevin Greene went through my walker without asking and threw a hissy fit about the kosher food I brought for my toddler grandkids and then mansplained what kosher meant to me. We had a great time at Melaleuca Field watching the Chukars. The stadium is very nice. The opening night fireworks were great and it was fun seeing the 2013 championship trophy presented. The food options were plentiful and the prices are reasonable. The $2 hot chocolate was great on a cold night. It is great that the city supports this team well. I hope the Royals keep their affiliation with Idaho Falls for a long time. Charley Chukar was also fun and provided some laughs at the expense of the Orem Owlz players. read more

I finally got to go see a game in the new stadium, and let me say I was taken back about how nice of a job they did. The old stadium was crowed and the metal bleachers were not comfortable at all. The shiny new stadium (which is 3 years old now, I think ) has a box section, which runs from around first base to third base, is all individual seating, complete with cup-holders and requires a ticket show and an escort to get to your seats, classy. They still have a few section of bleacher seats where most of the families with kids hangout. If you have a big group, there's a picnic area or the hot tub picnic area to rent out. Yes, you did read hot tub picnic area-- how fun and you got to luv minor league baseball's shenanigans. It was an overall pleasure to watch the game, which was only $11. I did enjoy a tasty beverage of Sam Adams Boston Lager. I did not enjoy the price-- $7.50 for a large. That is a silly expensive price. Last major league game I went to, Sam was $8.75. Minor League, I expect a little less expensive priced beer. Yes, I could have gotten a non-microbrew but I want to drink good, not water down beer -- cough -- Coors light, Bud Light. read more

It's a cool stadium, though a few modern touches aren't so great (field level foul lines are for reserved parties, mostly-empty box seats, nets absolutely everywhere). Way back when in a better time, Idaho Falls had a baseball field named McDermott Park. However the field started to show its age and people in the town felt that instead of repairing it, that they needed a new field. Now not that there is anything wrong with it. It is great to put money into something that people in town enjoy. Baseball being one of America's favorite sports and all. The big issue I have is that the city felt compelled to bring in a baseball park that was nice. Because after all some of the other minor league teams had nice fields. Lindquist Field in Ogden is a fan favorite among minor league fans who like to travel the country and experience a great game at a nice park. But really this is where it comes a problem. Idaho Falls could have repaired McDermott. One of the big problems however was that it wasn't very accessible to people in wheelchairs. Still, they could have fixed this. Instead it was about having another wonderful baseball field in a metropolis. If they had decided to put this near a highway it might have worked. Unfortunately for Melaluca Field, this park is situated in one of the worst neighborhoods in Idaho Falls. People in town really glorify the beauty of the park. Sure it is nice but it isn't that nice... of course for a town that isn't huge, but large enough to have something nice then I suppose it works for the citizens. My reasoning for the low rating is actually because of the name. I remember back in 2002 when they decided to rename the team after breaking their ties with San Diego. Their new Major League affiliate was Kansas City. The owner had a contest to name the team. Many suggestions were made. The actual name of the team was going to be the Idaho Falls Eagles after the counts were tallied. Unfortunately for the city of Idaho Falls for some odd reason, the owners decided to go against the name. Instead we were forced with a name. I remember when they announced the name on television and couldn't believe what I had seen. The Chukars? I was astounded and ashamed that they decided to screw the city over with this. The idea of this name came from local radio announcer John Balginy. Balginy broadcasts games of both Idaho Falls and Skyline sports respectively. All I can say is, thanks John for messing things up! In the Chukars infancy, the programs proudly proclaimed, "At least we aren't the Montgomery Biscuits!" What a claim to fame. Thanks for the slap in the face Kevin Green. I honestly miss the days when I cheered for the Braves. Those days are over. read more
