His behavior has been stellar at all places since he was 12 weeks old. He was every teacher's shining star. He rarely, if ever, had an incident. Most recently, he attended The Shed for a year without incident. One of his counselors at Brooks admitted to me that all the children needed reminding about using quiet hands recently. So it is obvious my son was singled out. He was bullied every day, yet no counselor apparently noticed. I called Brooks staff to share this. I trust my son's statements that the counselor's refused to help him when he was taunted and told him to "go away," or "leave" or "bye-bye." What do you as a parent when your child uses their words and receives such treatment? I'd get pretty frustrated. The counselors are poorly trained, they don't know their own camp policies (which one admitted to me in the parking lot) and the camp is terribly disorganized. Every time I spoke to someone different and they don't communicate internally, so some staff never communicated with anyone at the camp about any issues! Even the day he was dismissed, the person who called me said this was all news to them that I already had several conversations with Brooks folks. No one bothered to read the copious amount of notes I put in the application paperwork about what works and doesn't work for my son, which was asked of me. He was in early intervention when he was younger. This camp cost me $5,000 (over $1,000 a week, plus bus and meals). Not to mention they put all the kids in a room with nothing to do when it rains. I work full-time and I am a single parent. They have a "three strikes and you're out" policy and now I am left without any resources until the start of school in September. Never have I encountered such a level of incompetency overall and disregard for my child. Every one needs to be safe. I have no argument with that. But I have no confidence in Brooks' statements due to their disorganization and lack of consistency when it comes to communication and treating all children fairly. I had no insight into what lead up to the so-called incidents with my son which speaks volumes. That information is key for behavior modification so please be aware. Also conveniently, they have a no refunds policy if your child is dismissed. STAY far, far away. Next camp I'll be better prepared to make sure the environment is safe, controlled and the counselors aren't 14 and in training. I feel betrayed and ripped off BIG TIME. Nonetheless I am grateful to have learned from this experience and can share this with my fellow citizens.

From the first day I enrolled my oldest daughter in Preschool Social Academy we have had a great…read moreexperience.  I was lucky to see my child run into the play area and wave goodbye as she ran off with friends. She would come home excited to tell us what she had learned at preschool.  When she started Kindergarten she knew all her alphabetic symbols and numbers and was eager to learn to read.  Socially she was more than ready to start Kindergarten. Once Kimberly opened a toddler room, we enrolled our second daughter.  Within 2 weeks we saw an immediate improvement in her verbal skills.  When she arrived she was only saying a few words, but now she is speaking sentences, singing ABCs, counting.  After showing interest in the potty, she is well on her way to being potty trained.  Kimberly has helped us with the horrible transition of bye bye binky.  As a full-time working parent, it is great to know that my children have wonderful care.  I get progress reports daily.  Food is provided, so I only have to pack pullups and a change of clothes.   If it is one of those days and I forget something, no worries, they have extras.  I couldn't be more pleased with the education and care my children have received at PSA.

The school has a low student to teacher ratio, 10:3, which provides ample opportunities for working individually with each child. I have been able to watch Sammi learn and develop so much through her work at PSA. Each day I get a personalized report about what Sammi has done/eaten that day at school, as well as what they are focusing on. All snacks and meals are provided by PSA, which makes it so much easier getting out the door! I love to hear Sammi sounding out starting sounds of words, and seeing in the reports that, that is what they are learning at school. I love being able to build on what she is learning at school. The play plans each child draws/labels as they're able to, are great as I get an idea of what she's doing at school and she's writing them in her own words, which is huge! The school is very academic based as well as structured. Using their reports, I enjoy being able to build on what she is learning in school. It is also nice when I ask Sammi what she did at school, and she says I just played, I can ask more specific questions, and see her get all excited telling me about her day! There are 3 class options at PSA. Two year olds go tues/thurs 9-12, 3 year olds 9-12 mon/wed/fri and 4 year olds (pre-k) 1-4 Monday through Friday. All classes have the option of extending their day to include lunch 12-1. The teachers come out to assist with drop off/pick up, so you only have to walk your child in if you choose, otherwise, no need to get siblings in and out of the car! Drop off/pick up service is available as well as early drop off, and extended day, which has definitely helped me when I've been in a bind! PSA accommodates the parents needs when it comes to drop off/pick up. Miss Kimberly, the owner/lead teacher, is very available to the parents. I can't tell you how many late night texts I have sent her! Whenever I have a concern/paranoid parent moment, she listens and takes the time to get me a meaningful answer. For example, Sammi started joking around and misidentifying colors, Kimberly took the time to work with Sammi 1:1 and show me that this was just a stage she was going through regarding playing with humor. Kimberly also takes the time to go above and beyond, my husband is in the army reserves and is gone at times, Sammi was having a rough time with that, and Miss Kimberly sent home a nice book about this for Sammi to learn from and borrow. PSA offers a flexible summer camp option for enrolled students. The consistency has been so valuable to us! The teachers are so warm and caring. I have heard many stories about some minor boo boo that was a catastrophe for Sammi, "then Miss Amanda hugged me and I smiled!". PSA does not close for snow days unless driving is banned, so if you want to get your child there in a snow storm, they're ready for them! Sammi is in her second academic year at PSA, she's already signed up for summer camp and will keep going until she starts kindergarten, fall 2015!

Many of our sped children, including my own, thrive off of a predictable schedule. I intended to send her for the day to test out the environment. Imagine my shock surprise when she didn't want to leave. I received unprompted feedback about my kid's day and they kept an eye on her behavioral well being. I would send her back in a heartbeat. With "freedom" for the kids... that means they really just choose whatever they want. Perhaps I ought to have understood more clearly that Mario Kart and iPad games were going to be options. And taken that into consideration with my child's proclivities. He also had a hard time meeting other kids and making friends. Not usually difficult for him, but he said kids already had cliques and the older/bigger kids were condescending and mean. Oh well. We tried it because we needed to. Won't come again though.

This is a family run camp with a significant number of repeat staff and campers. The 2-week sessions give the campers a chance to become comfortable and competent. Many campers attend multiple sessions & I believe this is because the staff truly enjoys their work and the campers. It is such an awesome place, if only I was young again....

I called three times before the start of camp to get a tour, my son had worked there two summers so I assumed my daughter would feel comfortable as well, but never got a call back. I was told there was a pool, and kids would be taking swimming lessons- so I asked about her float vest and was told it was ok; her first activity was at the pool and they made her take her floatie off which scared her. The changing rooms are dark and she was afraid to go in alone. Someone stole items from her lunch.... And in the world of a five year old that was enough, but unfortunately the list goes on. I called and talked to someone claiming to be an executive, and instead of hearing me out and trying to figure something out - I was constantly interrupted and talked over. It was completely unprofessional. Transitions for children can be difficult, but this camp is more concerned with making money than caring for children.
