It's one of the most stressful parts of relocating--until we found Braddock Road KinderCare. I can honestly say this center has been an absolute gift to our family since starting in the summer of 2023. From the start, we've felt welcomed, supported, and truly cared for. The director, Susie, is amazing--she's engaged, responsive, and really listens to families. Anytime we've had questions or concerns (which has been rare), she's communicated clearly and compassionately, and always worked with us to find the best path forward. She truly leads by example. Belkys (and Nancy, before she transferred) have also been incredible--warm, professional, and clearly invested in the well-being of every child. The teachers are phenomenal--Nisha, Uregi, Rose, Taliah, Anita, Melanie, and Shagofa have all played key roles in our kids' lives. They create classrooms that are safe, fun, and full of learning, and it's clear how much they care about each child as an individual. They've even reached out when our kids were sick or recovering from surgery, which was so touching and thoughtful. Even staff who haven't directly taught our children are kind, friendly, and clearly passionate about what they do. It's such a warm, caring environment all around. I recommend this center to everyone looking for childcare. Our kids are happy, thriving, and well cared for--and as a parent, there's nothing more valuable. This place is truly something special.

The focus on each child's needs and interests, along with low teacher:student ratios have really supported our kids developmentally. The nature exposure (daily in the classroom and in the garden, as well as bi-weekly in the woods) is another big plus for us. Community is by far the best part for the whole family though. Co-oping in class helps parents get to know the other kids and their families, in addition to experiencing what the kids are doing in class. There are also lots of social opportunities informally (the playground after pick-up) and formally (Bike and Book Fest for one) throughout the year. I highly recommend the school to everyone, but especially those new to the area and those wanting to be involved in their child's preschool experience.

It was late April when I reached out and connected with the Membership team and while they had one last spot for my 4 year old daughter, we were on the waitlist for my 1.5 year old son. (It all ended up working out to where my daughter attended 5 days a week and my son was 2 days a week.) From the very first contact, everyone was wonderful. My kids teachers welcomed not only them, but our whole family with open arms and helped us create a sense of community when we didn't know a single soul. The teachers are amazing and the play based opportunities afforded to the children are unparalleled. Some of our favorite things about AUCP are the bi-weekly outdoor program at Long Branch, their commitment to getting the kids outside every day (I wish all schools had this philosophy), the community building events, the garden, ride on toys etc. I can't recommend this school enough. It's been a gem in so many ways.

They will pressure you into a…read morelong term contract, tell you that you can cancel prior to a month with no issues and then flip the script and keep your money. I am severely disappointed and angry about this experience. I was lured into this place by an ad for 3 month SAT prep and then was steered and pressured into an expensive and useless 6 month contract -although they said during the evaluation that my child did not need remedial work. They said the 3 month SAT prep is a National Promo and not something they were doing but they could still help her prepare for the SAT. We decided to try and if not a good fit we'd cancel during the allowed time period. Great. My child attended 2x a week for 90 min and worked on worksheets. No one on one tutoring or lessons or group co-hort. It was loud and boisterous and she compared it to a babysitting service for little kids working on math. If that's what you need then this is the place for you. However look at the contract and all the fine print-it's like a shady gym with many fees designed to keep your money despite poor service. We joined on Nov 14th and paid $453. There was Thanksgiving break- ok. We cancelled on Dec 10th. They had charged us $509 on Dec 1st (2 weeks after joining!) and I asked for a refund for the month of December since she'd only attended 4 classes - one class in December. I explained it's a bad fit for a high school student- it's loud and geared for little kids. Furthermore, tutors are high schools students and not a great fit. They said no we don't charge a penalty for leaving but we can't give you your money back once it has been charged. They dismissed my email with a breezy "we hope you understand." They are a scam. This means we paid $240 for each class. Outrageous. Shameful. Horrible place.

We ended up leaving but the amount of tuition they charge (and it keeps increasing every few months) is crazy for what we're getting. pot holes in the parking lot go unfixed, their signage on the awning got taken down (both did) now its a blank space that looks like something should be there. The inside has not great lighting and wall colors, it looks kind of dim/depressing, instead of bright and clean. I don't know where all this tuition money is going. It could use a facelift and better playground. The school aged kids room has 2 men as the sole providers and I asked if there were ever female assistants or helpers in there and was pretty much told " i know there's a stigma against male daycare teachers." Ok?? sorry males are responsible for 75-90% of the crimes I'm worried about. And Males constitute the majority of "offending" child care providers/babysitters reported to the police (77%) So I don't think that was a ridiculous question or even something ridiculous to be concerned about. And her lack of concern towards MY concerns was unsettling. We also had multiple incidents with my preschooler, one she told me the teacher grabbed her face because she wouldn't wash her hands, and it hurt. They didn't really do anything about it except, apparently, ask the teacher if she did that and she said no. Ok....Why would a 3 year old make up something so random? The preschool teacher also had a loud bell she would ring to get the kids to pay attention which my 3 year old was scared of and she had sensory issues with loud sounds after that started happening, she would freak out at any loud sound and it didn't stop until after we pulled her out. Another incident in the preschool classroom was that they were trying to get all the kids to be quiet and so they told them that here's a monster out in the hallway of the school and if they don't be quiet the monster will come in. So naturally, my 3 year old told me about this, very scared, and was scared of monster in the school and at home, especially at bed time, for awhile. Again, told the front desk, I don't think anything was done about it. My 3 year old went here for a year. She cried almost every day at drop off. She hated going there. I thought it would ease up eventually but it never did. My school ager liked the kids but that was about it. One of the school aged teachers even apparently sat there and told the kids he doesn't like them and what he doesn't like about each one, and some kids cried. I'm just glad I'm out of this money suck. It is not up to the standards that the local competition has, and shouldn't be charging the same tuition as the local competition. I would not recommend this place.

While this type of environment may work well for some families seeking a highly informal, hands-off setting, it was not a good fit for our family. At the elementary level, we observed wide variation in academic readiness within classrooms, with students at very different skill levels learning together. In our experience, students' academic strengths appeared to reflect individual ability or outside enrichment rather than outcomes consistently supported by the instructional program. Enrollment size is extremely small, particularly in the upper grades. We were told that recent graduating classes consisted of only one or two students, which raised concerns for us about long-term sustainability, peer learning opportunities, and social development. Families seeking sports, group activities, or broader peer interaction may find this limiting. When we asked basic, reasonable questions about curriculum and placement, communication with administration felt strained rather than collaborative. We were frequently told "we are a family here," which in practice seemed to function as a way to discourage questions or parent input. Over time, this created discomfort around advocacy rather than partnership. The school structure concentrates multiple roles within a single leader (administrator, teacher, coach, and primary decision-maker). This consolidation made the environment feel insular and, at times, uncomfortable when raising concerns. Families who value clear professional boundaries, transparency, and shared problem-solving may find this challenging. While the school promotes STEM accreditation and innovation, our experience did not reflect consistent alignment with basic public-school academic benchmarks. Families considering enrollment should ask detailed questions about curriculum standards, differentiation, and how parent feedback is handled. The school is very small, has no PTA, and limited avenues for parent collaboration. This school may be appropriate for families seeking a more affordable, informal, and highly hands-off educational setting. For families who expect academic rigor, openness to questions, and a collaborative relationship with school leadership, expectations should be managed carefully. Some families may have had different experiences, but ours was ultimately disappointing.
