The apartments look nice, but the quality is not as good as it should be. For example, the wall in the bathroom that has the mirror on it is perpendicular to the hallway, which is open (not enclosed) - in the winter, that mirror is so cold I can hardly stand to touch it, so that wall is clearly not insulated as well as it should be. In addition, the front door of my apartment, and my neighbors apartment, and the doors on the floor below me all slam so hard that it literally shakes the walls - I can feel my bedroom wall shake when I am sitting in bed leaning against the wall, I can feel the bedroom floor shake when I am standing folding laundry, and I have literally had pictures FALL OFF the wall, resulting in gouges in the wall and broken glass all over the floor, because the door slams so hard. I said something to the office about it, and they tried to tell me it is required by city ordinance, which is completely ridiculous - the city might require the door to close when it swings shut, but no way should it shake the walls hard enough to knock loose a picture when my neighbor's door slams. The rent is really $1,750 a month, because even though rent is advertised as being cheaper, you are required to get cable and internet through the complex for $130/month - it's not, do you want it, it's you will get it, and if you want it, you need to buy your own router for the building wifi (which frankly, does not give me great confidence in the security), and you will still need to pay a connection fee and a monthly charge to their selected cable company if you actually want to watch TV (on top of the fee you pay to the complex); you MUST pay for a parking spot - options were for a $99/month garage or $79/month uncovered parking space; there is pet rent if you have a pet (which is pretty typical); you have to contribute to the office's electrical, & even though it's a 4 room office, and there are about 100 apartments, MY portion of that bill each month has been about $50 (seriously, am I supposed to believe their electric bill is $5,000/month?! - this is on top of my own utilities bills); in all, the extra charges end up being close to $300/month required on top of what they tell you rent will be, which I think is extremely dishonest. There is also a clause in the lease that you cannot say anything negative about the complex on social media or online, so take that into account when you read all the reviews. The appliances are clearly the lowest quality they thought they could get away with. For example, while I do appreciate having a washer/dryer in the apartment, I am absolutely paying a premium for that, and I expect the washer to have a gentle cycle - instead it has whites, colors, and permanent press; it has also destroyed most of my shirts. The freezer was constantly popping open if I opened the refrigerator - & it was not too full; when the maintenance guy came to fix it, he said a lot of the freezers were having this same problem. The oven is pretty new, but if you bake anything, it will definitely not cook evenly - I made the cakes for my sister's wedding about six months ago, & they were about 1 inch thick on one side, almost 3 inches thick on the other. The kitchen sink, when used in spray mode, really will spray - everything in about 3 feet! The office staff used to be fabulous, but since the new employees started in the last few months, the experience has gone completely downhill. The maintenance guys are great, and will usually come pretty quickly. There are a few residents who are kind of creepy - one guy stands and watches me walk my dog down the block and back, or climbs to the top of the stairs and waits for us (because he creeps me out, I have started going out of my way to avoid seeing him, and then started noticing him waiting at the top of the stairs - he does this to other people, too, not just me, but what. the. heck.), and a woman who told me one day that she thinks she sees me every time I go out with my dog - seriously?! major creeper! Also, as a result of trying to avoid the creepers, I have started walking around the neighborhood in new directions, and I saw a guy sitting next to the wall across the street; as I walked down the block, several cars came up, someone got out and ran over to him, they exchanged something, and then the drivers got back in the car and went away. It definitely looked like a drug deal to me. Some residents blast music at the pool really late at night. From what I have heard, the complex will gouge you on move out fees (none of which are specified in the lease), so there's that to look forward to, as well. Finally, some residents need to be get a CLUE and close their blinds at night - no one wants to accidentally see you "getting busy" when they walk past, even if you are on the 2nd or 3rd floor - it's night, your lights are on - we can still see you!!! I will be glad when I can move out. read more
