IceCats practice on the small rink
    Danny T.

The official practice facility for the New York Islanders, located in Syossett. There are two sheets of ice, one full sized and another junior sized rink used for practices. The place is very clean and well kept. They offer hockey programs for all ages and skill level from beginner to travel level players as well as youth to adult. The instructors are excellent and enjoy what they do. My personal experience with the hockey programs here has been with the adult clinic here on Mondays evenings. A clinic for beginner to intermediate level players looking to improved skills. My son also practices here with his bantam travel team. The main parking area is a bit cramped, but there is an overflow lot right next door, so there is usually somewhere for you to park. The pro shop is OK, they'll occasionally some equipment displayed (or for sale) that have been worn my NHL players...if you are into that sorta thing. They have most of the standard items you would expect a pro shop to have. But the prices aren't anything to write home about. But the service is good. There is a concession stand here, but it's hit or miss whether it's open or not. So if you REALLY need coffee, I would hit the Dunkin Donuts just down the street before coming in here.

    Ice works larger rink.

By far the very best attributes to this facility are both the convenience of parking and the ultra…read morelow cost of participation. On a cold Sunday afternoon, my daughter was pleading with me take her ice skating and the only other option was outside on a windy day so we opted to come here. Checkin was a breeze. Town of Oyster Bay residents get a healthy break but even though we live in Huntington, it was a super low price to skate for three hours for $14- that's including the skate rentals. So a super slam dunk for this low cost activity to burn some calories and pent up energy. The staff was friendly and we were up and running in no time at all. There were two windows open for payment and about 4 people behind to get your skates. Leave one of your shoes and they give you a pair in your size. The rink was divided into a trio of areas. The center was used for those who figure skate. And one side was coned off for additional practice. The rest was set up for those who do the traditional counter clockwise circular skating we all are accustomed to. At about half-time, the Zamboni came out to refinish the ice and made for a clean, smooth ride. There are guards there for safety but as far as I could see, were really unnecessary. Bleachers are set up for those who don't want to break their butts (like me) and can cheer on their team or little one while they skate. There is a pro shop inside to buy whatever you might need. For a low cost event, this really was a no- brainer.

The rent and ticket to enter are different for residents but still very reasonable. The skates were great, newer than in other places we had been. You need to give one of your shoes as a deposit. The place has many locker rooms; bring your own lockers if you have something valuable. The ring itself is excellent; there were many people, but my husband and I enjoyed it. It seems like a lot of people on Long Island know how to skate)

When we got in it really wasn't clear where to go. For a first timer it was confusing. Cost was pretty steep with rentals. And the rental skates were uncomfortable at best. This is the town run building and then I could feel the breeze from inside her a little office. It's going to be 97° and they will be bringing campers inside to get them out of the heat outside and it will be just hot inside . They absolutely have an ability to cool the building down otherwise they would have a melted ice rink Lol Bethpage Rinx has air conditioning all summer . When I looked it up, this is what it says :While not explicitly requiring air conditioning, the need to maintain acceptable indoor air quality and manage humidity levels in indoor skating rinks, particularly those using resurfacing machines, often necessitates the use of robust ventilation systems that may include air conditioning or other cooling components. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes this may include equipping facilities with two ventilation units, one for the rink and one for public areas. Important Note: Specific local codes and ordinances within individual towns and counties may impose additional requirements regarding air conditioning or indoor climate control in public buildings, so checking with the relevant local authorities is always advisable.
