we popped in for lunch traveling from Abilene to Breckenridge at noon on a Wednesday in March 2025. The crowd was thinning out as it was almost 1 PM. We were told by a regular to seat ourselves and then the waiter appeared. Hubs ordered the lunch special - chicken fried steak, gravy, green beans & potatoes for $12.99; I had the Sally's Chalupa (I think it is #6) - it was delicious fresh fried corn tortilla tostados (2) with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, guac & cheese and sides of frijoles and rice. Traveling through Albany Tx, with my Husband it was around eight o'clock, and we needed a place to eat that was open before the streets shut down, tried to go to steakhouse that used to be the beehive but it was packed, so we relied on Yelp to lead us to the Ice House, ended up parking in the back going in through the bar! It took the waiter a little bit to serve us but when he did we both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, it came with Salad and Fries. When it came out the waiter said hope you are hungry, because the CFS was on a huge platter! The salad is on the plate, and I asked for ranch dressing ( that had a good favor, but I had to ask for extra because it was kind of watered down, I guess from the lettuce). The extra dressing saved it! The fries were decent but needed additional salt for my taste! Now the chicken steak looked good but it was burnt on all the edges and with it not being very thick was disappointing to say the least! At first I thought it was premade cutlet but my husband said the breading didn't lead him to believe that! I believed it was deep fried, and maybe the oil was too hot! The gravy was underneath the steak so I turned it over to least try to eat it, I was able to eat a little out the middle! I had ordered a diet drink for my beverage, and I thought I was getting a Coke Zero, it had a really off taste like a mixture of sprite, coke, and water! When the waiter came over, I doubled checked my drink order, and he said it was Coke Zero! I would pass on that if I was you! I didn't complain about my food, because we came in late, and it was a busy night, which made it extremely loud from the bar area! We were passing through, and just wanted to leave! Maybe, if there was a next time I would try the Mexican Food! I think I would pass on the CFS! read more

been here a couple of times now and it always hits the spot! classic sports bar with a texas feel, friendly service and great food! highly recommend the chicken wings and the popper burger if you're stopping by for lunch. fyi it is a bar only in the evenings so make sure to come early if you're looking for food! read more

a great small town restaurant with a mesquite grill. the food is filled with flavor. I personally enjoy the grilled chicken breast sandwich. But any dish is good. As with a mesquite grill, the food prep takes time. But it is worth the wait. local patrons frequent this hub for a sit down meal or take out. read more

I have been going there for years, and the owners of the Ice House are the epitome of Shackelford County kindness, hospitality and class. If you're in the area and want to avoid the crowd of the bee hive or you're in the mood for Mexican food, this is a great place. Very good chicken enchiladas and chicken fried steak. They have a great meal that consists of I believe a ribeye and enchiladas. best combo ever. Nothing to go out of your way for, but a very good place. read more

The beef enchiladas are yummy. Had the peach cobbler and ice cream for desert...may have to start with desert first next time, it was soooooo good!! I went with a large group, we called ahead got right in and got our food all nice and hot. Good stuff, try it you will not be disappointed. read more

Great restaurant off the beaten path. If your looking for something other than Dairy Queen for lunch this is your place. Very good chips and queso. The Mexican hamburger with rice and beans was excellent (picture attached). My wife thought the chicken quesadillas tasted strange. They had a bacon flavor.
