This place is a total step back in time. Seriously. One of the most endearing qualities about the Ice Chalet is its royal bow to nostalgia. Immediately upon walking in we were transported back to our memories of idealistic childhood. After you rent your skates you can sit on a bench that has helpful tips for lacing up correctly. Then you will proceed through double doors to the rink. It's kind of cold, duh. Bundle up. If you aren't skating, there are several places to sit. Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. If you are more hit natured, you may be able to handle to chill without added layers. If you are cold natured, bring layers, a blanket, and purchase some hot chocolate at the snack bar. The rink is older, and a bit small, but still has plenty of room for you to take a lap to impress your girlfriend before you fall after getting a bit over confident. About once an hour you will get a front row seat to Mr. Dan (if he's there) driving the zamboni to smooth the ice. He is the friendliest guy around. On the far side of the rink they have metal "walkers" available to kids for free and blue seals available to ride or push (kids only) for rent. If you have a kid under 7, this is a great option! After the evening pu loc skate they sometimes have hockey games. If that's your thing, it's fun to stick around and watch. The only downfall is there is no net or glass between the viewing seats and the ice. If a puck goes flying, please watch your head and face. We love the Ice Chalet and we will be back. It's nothing fancy, but it feels like home.

Spent most of the weekend here at a curling tournament. Though the rink is a bit older, the facilities are inviting. Liked all the memorabilia and the lobby has a nice chalet feel. The restrooms are clean and there is a snackbar area. Typical seating for an ice rink and the place is kept cold. They could replace the Plexi as I imagine it's hard to watch hockey or skating through those scratch up panels.

The ice rink where we skated.

Pros: -big smooth floor…read more -reduced price if you bring your own skates -very clean -lots of parking -friendly staff -friendly crowd -mix of skill levels Cons: -terrible music- the teenage "DJs" play 2010 era rap the entire time, even on adult skate. If you're so lucky as to hear something else, they'll cut it off halfway thru to play Like A G6 or worse, a Christian country song with no beat. They have their own Christian music night- shouldn't that be enough? They did not play my request, Islands in the Stream. -weirdly low drop-ceilings make it feel claustrophobic -I wish there were practice lines in the middle of the floor for figure skating -I wish they offered a punch card/season pass for regulars

Absolutely distraught at how fast this once beloved childhood jewel is no longer going to be…read moregetting much of my family's business anymore. This has been a slow down-hill compiled mix of dissatisfaction over these few years that tonight has taken the cake. We are no longer allowed, as an adults in our OWN skates, to step outside ON their oning, NOT gravel, and then reenter, without removing your skates first. Let me repeat: im not talking about rental skates, YOU MUST TAKE OFF YOUR OWN SKATES. Mind you this place has NO SERVICE INSIDE. This has been the first time in ALL of my years, as an adult AND many years not, that I have EVER heard of this rule. Not to mention, I have a UMBILICAL HERNIA, and I came out tonight JUST TO SEE if I could still be okay to skate because I'm very much a dedicated skater. And to be met with even more difficulties than I have already, not wanting to explain to a TEENAGER just exactly WHY it might hurt to take these bad boys on and off just for a few seconds outside, JUST wanting to do the ONE THING that makes everything better for me? Rocks? ROCKS??? COMING INSIDE IS THE REASONING? Why??? cause they might have to sweep a little more? Trip hazards? In comparison of the inconveniences costumers face every time they visit here, they want to act like us stepping out for two seconds with OUR OWN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR skates, on is an issue? I took a video of their oning, and the ONE rock there? TOO BIG to get stuck in a skate. If there were rocks in your SKATE you couldn't ROLL, let alone skate far enough to drag the rocks inside . And to add a perfect PERSONAL example to the uselessness of this rule, MY KID spilled the nerds candy available at the concessions on the floor (don't worry we pick up our messes) and how did I find them? WITH MY SKATE. Multiply that by every kid in a busy night, I would BET MONEY those come up on the floor more often than I have EVER seen rocks Inside. A month ago(April 5th) for my sisters birthday party we RENTED out the rink, they didn't have this rule I am upset because physically it HURTS me now and takes so much time to do those motions repetitively for a simple two hour Skate window; removing the skates cuts into my already drastically limited skate time. AS DOES HAVING TO WAIT AROUND and then teach my daughter how to kindly ASK THE EMPLOYEES TO SERVE YOU BEYOND THE TICKET BOOTH. (Not that that's their fault if staffing is wonky, but come on now! Again, your customers Compromise For You, the business THEY CHOOSE to continue to support for YEARS. Maybe compromise for them and not threaten employees they will be fired if they don't enforce this petty and POINTLESS stuff...this has been the final straw. Being a customer since I was 9 years old( I am 28 years old now), this honestly breaks my heart for ALL of my fond memories here. I was (or tired to be) very nice to your young employees, I tried to offer understanding of the matter, asking understanding in return and blamed long finger nails instead if my health; but after this, we will not continue to pay outrageous prices for less windows of skate times, be UNDERSTANDING to your business and employees as customers in our wait times at concessions to be met with such ridiculous new rules that show you do not care to compromise for the ones that wanted to keep you here as long as you all have been. Evey visit has done nothing but give me more and more reasons this just isn't fun enough to want to pay this much and be treated like teenagers. This is fully a business-run issue, Not these poor teenage employees they have to push these new "stipulations" and have to deal with more disgruntled folks like me. I do hope these "little things" that break the customer's hopes in having that safe but still fun and enjoyable aspect, can find a medium being useful annd reasonable instead of just down-right petty. I hope they show us our opinions do actually matter to these owners so they can find better solutions to accommodate the people who kept them in business for so long before another part of all our childhood nostalgia is pushed to non-existence because business just "isn't the same."

For our group of 4 adults and 2 kids, we opted for the Scaly Mountain Screamer and the tubing. What a great time - I've seen footage of mountain coaster rides from Europe, but never had encountered it in the US. You can ride tandem on them which is convenient if you have kids and the speed is all up to you as you control it with a hand brake. Both of the kids in our group ended up doing it multiple times and each circuit gives you some great views of the forest and beautiful wilderness as you speed on by. One of the coolest aspects of the Scaly Mountain Screamer is that they not only clock your speed - each car has a go pro where you can buy the video, which everyone did. Once we had our fill of the screamer, we went to the tubing which was a surprisingly good time. The tubing track is lubricated with misters all the way down, so you get some great speed and keep cool at the same time and apparently they cover the hill in snow during the winter for some snow tubing. I would say that a stop at the Highlands Outpost is a must do for anyone, big or small. While definitely family centric, after riding on the Scaly Mountain Screamer and doing the Extreme tubing, I think its safe to say people of all ages will have fun here, especially given that you can trout fish as well. The group in front of us left with a whole mess of trout to cook up. We will be back here again to have more fun tubing and trying to beat our speed scores on the screamer and you should too.
