This place is a total step back in time. Seriously. One of the most endearing qualities about the Ice Chalet is its royal bow to nostalgia. Immediately upon walking in we were transported back to our memories of idealistic childhood. After you rent your skates you can sit on a bench that has helpful tips for lacing up correctly. Then you will proceed through double doors to the rink. It's kind of cold, duh. Bundle up. If you aren't skating, there are several places to sit. Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. If you are more hit natured, you may be able to handle to chill without added layers. If you are cold natured, bring layers, a blanket, and purchase some hot chocolate at the snack bar. The rink is older, and a bit small, but still has plenty of room for you to take a lap to impress your girlfriend before you fall after getting a bit over confident. About once an hour you will get a front row seat to Mr. Dan (if he's there) driving the zamboni to smooth the ice. He is the friendliest guy around. On the far side of the rink they have metal "walkers" available to kids for free and blue seals available to ride or push (kids only) for rent. If you have a kid under 7, this is a great option! After the evening pu loc skate they sometimes have hockey games. If that's your thing, it's fun to stick around and watch. The only downfall is there is no net or glass between the viewing seats and the ice. If a puck goes flying, please watch your head and face. We love the Ice Chalet and we will be back. It's nothing fancy, but it feels like home. read more

Spent most of the weekend here at a curling tournament. Though the rink is a bit older, the facilities are inviting. Liked all the memorabilia and the lobby has a nice chalet feel. The restrooms are clean and there is a snackbar area. Typical seating for an ice rink and the place is kept cold. They could replace the Plexi as I imagine it's hard to watch hockey or skating through those scratch up panels. read more

Went in late January and they still had Christmas decor AND were playing Christmas music! In JANUARY! The ice was so chopped up that it made it hard and unenjoyable to skate. Ice and shavings were on the rink. We really needed a Zamboni. read more

The staff was incredibly rude. We were there with children for a birthday party, and Carly SCREAMED at the children and the adults and threatened us with removing us from the Ice on multiple occasions. We may not have known or were following 100% of the rules, so I get the frustration, but there is a much better and more professional way of dealing with customers than screaming, berating, and threatening a bunch of 7 year-olds and their parents. Think twice before you plan an event here. read more

NEVER GO..... I don't advise anyone to ever go to ice chalet, especially if you know how to skate. The staff was grouchy and rude. Especially the little Chinese guy. He wouldn't let my friends and I skate holding on to each other, and he made us go sssssllllloooowwwwww. If you want good ice skating then you definitely need to go somewhere else. read more

The overall aesthetic of the place is dated but super charming. The price for 2 skate rentals and free skate time was $30 but my friend and I enjoyed it. The rink was large and not crowded and we loved the windows to the outside. The lockers to store purses and stuff were very convenient and cost 50 cents. Please read this message if you care about your business. Today is December the 15th. I enjoy ice skating a lot, but this place was horrific. My girlfriend and I were very excited to spend an hour or so learning to skate again and thought this place would be perfect. It was our first time there and the staff was hands down the rudest people I have come across in Knoxville Tennessee. I held a smile and a calm understanding voice through most of the interactions, but at the end, an old wrinkly lady decided to snap at us about putting our laces in the shoes when returning them. We were more than happy to simply place the laces inside of the shoe... a very simple task that does not need to be aggressively told to a group of CUSTOMERS. She then began to argue with us that she told us at the beginning but then realized she was indeed wrong and that the other worker there took care of us and in fact did not tell us to put the laces in the skate upon return. Either way, if she did tell us, you don't have to be so incredibly rude to the point where customers will never be coming back again. She will most likely make up a story as to why she was rude but there is quite honestly no reason. We did everything right and with respect on the rink. Never sitting on the walls or using the Bobby the Seal in the wrong way, unlike other customers today who did those things. Again - we were paying customers for the first time, the least you could do would be smile and be nice for at least 15 seconds to your paying customers. Good luck with the rest of your life working at an ice rink and snapping at kids about putting laces in a skate. Get yourself together and be a kind person, don't lie to yourself. The Ice Chalet is one of only two ice rinks in town, and it's a much more doable option for me because it's close to civilization, and they have lots of scheduled sessions for public open skating. Aside from just showing up with your own skates and throwing down, they offer skate rentals that are well taken care of. My son has wanted to play hockey for a long time, and has just started their instructional hockey program, followed by 3 different sessions of pickup hockey so he can put to use what he's learned. My other son is dating a girl who has taken figure skating lessons for years, and competes regionally because of the great facilities and capable teachers. The staff is friendly and they generally take great care of an old and important institution for fun in the area. read more

This is fabulous place to enjoy a casual afternoon of skating, to spend a day with your homeschool community, or to return over and over with kids to learn to skate. This is one of the Knoxville area's hidden gems. The owner and the teaching staff are truly inspired in how they do their jobs. They have classes for ALL ages, for all levels of skating ability, and they have good quality rental skates. My son learned to skate here, and the instruction and inspiration that the staff showered on him remains with him. He's 16 and still speaks with enormous gratitude and fondness about his relationship with his trainers there... And he still skates! I look forward to bringing my daughter here in another year to get her started too! read more

Ice Chalet is one of the few spots in Knoxville where you can ice skate or enjoy other winter sports all year round. The price is cheap to rent skates, and they offer various other equipment for use. So I gave this place a 3. I did that because my friends and I that went (3 in the whole party) had a fun time. But that reason I'm upset with this place is first off the workers that are watching the skaters we're letting children weave in and out of skaters almost colliding with friend multiple times like more than five times. We spent about 2 hours there and we enjoyed it. Other than the fact the children who obviously was on a hockey team since they had there gear on and parents kept grouping them for pictures were bothering the whole rink. That's not the real reason I'm leaving a three the real reason is that it when my friend and I return our shoes there was three people there. Well I got my shoes and the person handling them to me just stood there after that. So I commented nicely, hey she needs her shoes. The older lady standing there with a clipboard said there's a process. Umm were was the COVID process of wiping everything down and social distancing? The only process I saw that made me leave this review ending badly was the process of letting anyone do whatever. read more

This is one of the best ice rinks I've been to. The staff is great and the facility is second to none in the area. The Ice Chalet is themed to look like a Bavarian mountain lodge. Lots of antique skates as well as a roaring Buck Stove fireplace to warm up. The recently redid under the ice and it looks great. They have classes for all skill levels and the instructors are all high level skaters themselves. We love Holiday School. This a a two week (or one of you can't make both) training class over the holidays for everything from tots through gamma level skaters. It helps us get in the holiday mood since it's often warm outside but being in the cold ice rink help us feel like it's the holidays. read more

This is a two part review: first for the venue, second for the event. Having not spent a lot of time in ice rinks, this is a nice cozy little rink. Set off from the main road you have to take a big trip downhill to even see the location. Wood paneled walls and a little café. Parking surrounds the building. Now, I travelled to this location for a curling bonspiel: Rocky Top Open. The rink owners give the Smoky Mountain Curling Club full access for the duration of the event (which is AWESOME). Club members run the event (all volunteer) and provide food/drinks for the whole weekend event. They did an amazing job organizing and running the event and would return in an instant! Went here on a Friday night for a company outing. We had the ice to ourselves for over an hour and then were able to stay for the entire public session. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, a cozy fireplace, a nice rink, and good music make for a fun night out. The ice felt a bit crowded at times, but not unbearably so. The rental skates were not particularly comfortable, but they get the job done if you don't have your own blades. Now if only I could convince my wife to let me try ice hockey... read more

I've been here several times for the public skate. The atmosphere is really great. It's got an old fashioned look to it. The ice is good condition, and it wasn't very crowded when I went, but the rink is a little small so I could see that being a problem in the peak season. read more
