For an inexpensive, one night stay near the airport, this place was BRILLIANT. It didn't look promising from the outside--it's an ugly, dated-looking building--but step inside and the lobby is spotless, bright, cheerful, and hip.
The staff is awesome--friendly, English-speaking, and will do anything to accommodate. You can add breakfast to your stay for an additional 7.5 Euros, and it was a nice buffet--exactly what I needed before flying out in the morning. The room is very basic and spare, but it's spotless, the bed is comfortable, and the shower was great.
And while it's not in a cool, exciting neighborhood, there are actually places nearby where you can go to get a good meal. I walked about half a block to La General, and had a surprisingly fantastic dinner for about 12 Euros. There's also a big grocery store right next door if you need to pick up provisions for your trip.
As for the airport shuttle--that was a mixed bag. To catch it from the airport, you have to to go out to the "Hotel Buses" section. I stood there for about 30 minutes and waited...and then the Ibis shuttle drove right by without stopping! I was waving it down and everything. I called the hotel, and they told me to get into a taxi and they would pay for it. And sure enough, they did. (Be careful with the taxis. I found that everywhere in Spain the taxi drivers try to rip you off. It should be a set price of 20 Euros from the airport to the hotel. Ask for a receipt. I didn't, and my driver charged me 30.) Going back TO the airport in the morning it worked well for me, though my flight was at 11am so I didn't have to deal with the crowds. Get outside a little early to make sure you can get a seat. There are maybe 20 seats on the shuttle? Also, it helps to know your terminal number, as the driver doesn't know which airlines go with with Terminal, and he'll probably ask so he can stow the luggage properly. read more
