DO NOT DINE HERE WITHOUT ASKING THE COST UP FRONT. The menu does not include any prices and unless you ask for prices when ordering you will be shocked when you receive your bill. I recently took my wife and three children here for lunch and did not ask about the prices in advance. We shared five appetizers and two entrees and also had a 30 Euro bottle of wine (the wine list is the only part of the menu with any prices). Based upon my experience dining at numerous similar restaurants in Spain, I foolishly expected that our bill at the most would be about 300 Euros. So I about fell out of my chair when at the end of our lunch i was presented with a hand-scrawled bill for 1070 Euros (or over $1275!!). I live in San Francisco and am familiar with expensive restaurant prices -- but I have never seen anything like this. The bulk of the tab was for two of the appetizers: the egg and truffle appetizer at 200 Euros and the eel appetizer at 480 Euros. While I know that I am primarily at fault for not asking what things cost before we ordered, I would have expected the owner/waitress to at least mention that the appetizers that we were ordering were very expensive. This is especially the case because we were obviously non-Spanish speaking tourists who were having a bit trouble understanding the menu at the time we were ordering. To make matters worse, this restaurant is cash only -- so upon receipt of the bill I had to make a run to an ATM to get enough cash to pay for it. I cannot help but feel that we were taken advantage of by this restaurant. I am writing this review so that others can avoid the costly mistake that I made!! read more
