I have been enjoying high-altitude trekking for five years. Early on, I made the mistake of booking a solo trek (with a guide and porter but without a group) through a company in Kathmandu. It was not a good experience. Fortunately, that setback didn't stop me from pursuing my dream adventures--Everest Base Camp, Kilimanjaro, and the Inca Trail. That's when I discovered Ian Taylor Trekking (ITT), and everything changed. By chance, I learned that Ian lives near me. I picked up the phone, and to my surprise, Ian himself answered. We soon met for drinks, and after meeting Ian and Laura, I knew right away that these were people I could trust with something as important as a trek to Everest Base Camp. Everest Base Camp turned out to be unforgettable--the magic of the Sherpa culture, the breathtaking scenery, the friendships formed, and of course, Ian's presence on the trip. While ITT's guides, porters, and support staff are absolute professionals, what stood out most was Ian himself. His deep knowledge of the Khumbu (everyone seems to know him!), professionalism, and sense of humor made the journey even more special. From that first trek onward, ITT has continually exceeded my expectations. After Everest Base Camp, I thought nothing could top the experience. But then came Kilimanjaro--and later, the Classic Inca Trail. Each adventure with ITT only got better. One of the most important lessons I've learned in the mountains is that success is never guaranteed. Illness, weather, and other factors can change everything. On one trek with a different company, I fell acutely ill after five days of exhausting effort. My guide made the right call to turn us back, even though I was devastated at the time. That experience underscored the importance of choosing the right guide--and how grateful I am to have found Ian Taylor Trekking for my next expeditions. I've witnessed Ian and his team handle every type of situation with compassion, professionalism, and encouragement. Some clients arrive underprepared. Others, like me on Kilimanjaro, may doubt themselves at critical moments. At less than 100 meters from the summit, I was struggling silently. Ian didn't need me to say it--he noticed. Without turning around, he calmly reminded me of proper breathing technique. That simple guidance carried me to the summit at age 65. That moment changed my life, and I know it wouldn't have happened without such talented, capable, and caring guides. He and Taylor tracking is undoubtedly a superstar among a field of "OK" competitors. We did the five day Inca Trail Trek, and it so enormously, so vastly exceeded expectations that I really struggle for adjectives. The people, the warmth, the caring, the organization, the food, the experience... The efforts that the crew went to to make the best possible experience for an unbelievably diverse group was absolutely magical. 10 out of 10 not just would, but will, trek with again!! His team may be great but i would think twice about going to anything that he himself leads. During the summit night he was right behind me during the climb and was continously saying "if you are out of breath at this point you can never do this" and he was demorilising me. At that altitude you really need to control your breathing and instead i was trying to reply to his comments etc. My bloodpressure at one point got so high that my ears were ringing. He at one point shouted at Ang Kami Sherpa saying " here we have a problem, this one is not a team player" as if i dont have a name and humiliate me in front of others. Provoking me. At crampon point when i tried to put on crampons he shouted and said "no! no crampons!" and when i asked why he said "dont you f... understand i cannot take you up there you are slow" (yes thats the f word right there). So here you can see his way of approaching clients, and him favoring his "faster" clients. To give a side note, i was probably the only one who never used diamox the entire trip and i have no medical conditions that would prevent me from continuing, my oxygen levels were always well, these are all documented. It was his continuous mobbing behind me that had made my night so terrible. On the day we were returning to Namche he tried to approach me and i ignored him. He then got irritated and started to provoke me saying i had to tone down when i was basically ignoring him. He was trying to show me as target to others too.I turned on my gopro and told him that i will be recording everything. He then shouted "you go there! you stay there!" while waving his arm towards me , i have it all on camera. Clearly an anger issue which is very concerning. When i told him i will be looking for my legal rights, he said "good luck on that" again caught on camera. He gossips about other clients&mountaineers. Doesnt give names but does it mattter? Do we have to know those details of privacy? I dont think so... It doesnt matter if he can get you on top of a mountain when he has the capability of treating a client with all rudeness when he knows you need him as you are vulnerable in middle of nowhere in a mountain. Its such a shame that a mountaineer uses this against a client. There are many good local companies out there who will provide you the respect you deserve, choose one of those, the places you stay doesnt matter when your trip is all ruined because of one person who thinks he can control anything just because he is the owner. And he blocks people on instagram when he doesnt like their comments... Think twice or even thrice before you pay twice of other agencies.... read more

After climbing Mt. Everest and spending much of my time traveling around the world I decided to start running treks to Everest Base Camp and throughout the Everest region. I set up my own office in Kathmandu and started to expand from there.

Definitely tough on the joints. Much of the hike was in the dark to begin, so it felt like it took forever to get back since nothing looked familiar. It's a beautiful mountain with no technical skills required despite the elevation and length. I thought the scramble was great fun-harder class 2 but still easy with little exposure. Going through half moon pass is beautiful and offers stunning views of the mountain, but I definitely had an "oh sh*t" moment when I saw how far away it was. I brought my friend with me who did this as her first 14er which is pretty bad ass! I think if you choose this as your first, you could easily do all of the class 1 and 2s without a problem. There is one river crossing and so many pretty flowers when I went. A great challenging hike with beautiful scenery! I'd recommend camping at half moon campground the night before so it's easy to get an early start.

There were taxidermied animals from the area, so it was neat to learn about them, too. They had plenty of reading materials, too. This was walking distance from the Manor Lodge, Ford Park, Betty Ford Alpine Gardens and Vail Village. Just east of Village Center Dr. and Frontage Road. Go thru the gated parking. Come back to the west side of the transportation center and look for a "hiker" bus. There will be several other buses that look similar. May need to wait until the bus makes the loop. This is the only way to get to the TH. Hiker bus staffed by very friendly drivers will make a few stops before the TH drop off. On your return trip, will need to take the same shuttle back to the parking lot but will be marked as "East Vail" To find the TH, walk up to the north side (away from the main road), following the paved road for about 2000 feet while admiring beautiful homes. When you see the 5 min drop zone parking and the welcome sign, you are ready! Lots of elevation gain, walking thru the aspen forest and over a few creeks. About 2 miles to the fall, and another 2 miles to the lake. Enjoy! During the aspen season, there is not much water at the creek. If you want to see the columbine, need to be here around May.

I went on a 6 day African Safari in Tanzania in October 2025. We went to Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy Area, and Serengeti National Park. It was an incredible experience. We saw the big five animals (Lions, Leopard, Elephants, Rhinos, African Buffalo) and more (Hippos, Cheetahs, Wildebeest, Zebras, Giraffes, Topi, Elands, Gazelles, Hyenas, Crocodiles, and on and on. We got to see the migration of the Wildebeest - crossing the Mara River. We saw beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The highlight was a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti. The "rock 'n roll" landing was one of the most exciting experiences. The Ian Taylor Trekking staff (Athumani and Edwin) were the best. Whatever we wanted to see, they seemed to bring our wishes to life. Very knowledgeable and a delight to share our experiences with. I went to Everest Base Camp with Ian Taylor Trekking last year, and after doing a lot of research beforehand, I can confidently say it was the best decision I could have made. The entire experience was incredible from start to finish. Our guides, Kalden, Jiktal, and Tendi, were absolutely amazing. I've been lucky enough to use Ian Taylor Trekking successfully on 6 trips to date - Kilimanjaro, EBC/Island Peak, Aconcagua, Mont Blanc, Cayambe/Chimborazo and most recently Denali and I can't recommend them highly enough. They are very attentive, personable and professional. The pre-trip communication is always excellent from gear advice to appropriate training suggestions. In my experience Ian always prioritizes peoples safety over summit bids acknowledging that the summit is only half way. I've climbed several times with ITT since 2017. First Kili in Tanzania, then EBC, Elbrus in Russia and finally a super trek in Peru. I have always felt at "home", super safe and well Treated.
