Exercise is torture, at least in my opinion. I'd rather sit on my couch with a package of Oreos and watch YouTube. And yet, twice a week, religiously, for over FOUR YEARS, I've been voluntarily entering TJ's Innate Intelligence studio. Why????
When I started seeing TJ, I gave myself six months, max, before I was sure I'd quit. At the time, I was 52 years old and recovering from an illness that stripped me from any semblance of muscle. Even standing up long enough to shower was exhausting and left my legs trembling. My goal in seeing TJ was to boost my recovery, return to normal, be able to get back to my Sunday morning walks with friends.
With TJ's help, I rapidly regained what I'd lost. I didn't quit after six months though, and I continued making progress. Do I think exercise is fun now? Nope, but TJ makes it a fun experience overall, and who doesn't love progress? I can do more now than I could in my 30s, when I walked the Portland marathon several times.
What makes TJ different? Maybe its his extensive experience and education. Maybe its his personality. I think he has a hidden past as a stand-up comic. Maybe its his encouragement, empathy, or fact that he's non-nonjudgmental and really wants to help. I never feel like he's just doing a job.
Its probably all of the above.
If you're interested in trying 1:1 training, I highly recommend contacting TJ. Sure it's more expensive than attending a group class, but if you're more, or less, advanced than the rest of your group, you might not see the benefits you want from a group, and/or you might be risking injuries from doing too much or doing things wrong. read more
