Ogden has such a rich and naughty history that it entices the imagination and provokes pride which makes it the perfect backdrop for the tour. Over the past year, Utah has introduced me to inspiring people that have an idea and then proceed to DO SOMETHING about it. Nicole Ames and her husband, Glen, are in that group. After visiting other cities that endorse local businesses through tourism they decided that 25th Street was missing this amazing opportunity. Nicole, founder of the Good Eats Tour, rallied all the participants on Grant and 25th Street around 1:30pm on Saturday. We were introduced to each other and briefed on our tour. My partners-in-crime for this gluttonous day included my husband, Jason, and my Grandma, Sandra. I love food (my backside can attest to this ) but I also love meeting new people, learning new things and spending time with my favorite peeps so I knew this tour would be perfect. Nicole explained the inspiration for the Good Eats Tour name. Her Grandma Sloan owned the Good Eats Café in Ogden where she met her Grandfather. The story has been retold over generations and while she doesn't have proof of this, she chooses to believe it's true. Being a sucker for an amazing love story, I believe it too. When you experience the Good Eats Tour make sure to bring water! It gets very hot in the summer months and you'll be happy to have it. The Good Eats Food Tours isn't just about discovering new restaurants and food, it's about rediscovering Ogden's history and its future. Nicole peppered us with fun, interesting facts about Ogden's sordid past of bootleg, prostitution, and the Electric Alley. She also reminded us of Ogden's willingness to help those in need like when the poor and destitute arrived through Union Station, we welcomed them and came together as a community. Finally, the Good Eats Food Tours, wouldn't be nearly as fun without Nicole and her commitment to ensuring we had the best experience possible. Also, we got lucky and made a few new friends along the way. Faye and Ron have been married over 23 years and after I blurted out, "and you still like each other?" they just giggled. Thanks for putting up with us . Chris MacDonald doesn't have a Facebook so I told her I would lovingly refer to her as Chris from 25th Street until she got one. We had them out for about three hours, and hit the Flintstone house, top of the world, and the toll booths. It was a great time and an awesome experience. Joey even recommended a stellar place for dinner in Hurricane, overall a great experience and must use company for your day of recreation in the Sand Hollow area!!

However, there is a significant aspect of the tour's social environment that prospective solo travelers should be aware of. While not advertised as a faith-based tour, my group was almost entirely comprised of members of the LDS (Mormon) community. While I respect all backgrounds, the tour felt like a private religious excursion rather than a general public tour. If the company is going to cater so heavily to a specific religious group, it should be marketed as a faith-based tour so that outsiders can make an informed decision about the social dynamic. Unfortunately this led to a tour experience where there was a clique' dynamic that led to significant exclusion. Group members denied me accessible seating at demonstrations and even attempted to excluded me from group gondola rides because I was a single woman outside of their social circle. Most concerning was the lack of consideration for mobility needs; Though some members were supportive, I found I was repeatedly pushed aside by group members when need assistance, even when a flight attendant was assisting me. This created an environment that felt unwelcoming and, at times, physically unsafe. I would recommend this tour for the sights, but only if you are part of the specific demographic mentioned above. I urge the company to be more transparent about the nature of their clientele or to better manage group conduct to ensure all guests are treated with basic courtesy.

I was a little worried about this since I am not LDS. I Believe there were more non LDS travelers than LDS. Those who were did not mind that I had a glass of wine at dinner and were very friendly and inclusive. The tour was slower paced than tours I've taken with other companies. Also the only meals included were hotel breakfasts. Sometimes eating other meals was challenging due to location. I think the our good have been better organized and something's omitted and others added. The price is very reasonable but I don't feel you get as much compared to other companies. I would travel with them again but carefully review the itinerary and make sure I had snacks with me.

A neat lil distillery nestled in the mountains in Eden, Utah…read more We bought two tickets for a distillery tour (I think they were ~$20 each) & the experience was well worth the money. Chris & Ashley, co-owners of New World Distillery, have perfected the ideal distillery tour. It was a seamless blend of technical distilling knowledge, equipment explanations, liquor industry lore, & of course, taste-testing. We tasted 7 of their products, straight & neat, & learned a bit about each one. The vodka was amazingly drinkable. Distilled from agave, it has a pleasant sweetness to it that differentiates it from other vodkas. It also, unsurprisingly, smells a bit like tequila. At the tail end of the tour, Chris made the smooooothest transition to a lil speech on supporting small distilling. The war against big booze rages on, but Chris definitely gained some small booze warriors that day. It's clear they love motorcycles at this distillery. Half of the spots out front are reserved for bikes. I hope to come back on my hog someday. Thank you Chris & Ashley for inviting us into your world for a little bit. We could only take one bottle with us (we got on a plane to Rhode Island the next day) but we'll definitely be back for more someday.
