Review for Isabel - European Wax Center, Hillside, IL…read more I have written many reviews before, but none as important or personal as this one. On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, I came in to see Isabel at the Hillside European Wax Center. She had no idea at first what I was going through -- I had just experienced the unimaginable loss of my mommy, sister, and brother-in-law in a tragic murder-suicide that happened right in the community where she lives. During my appointment, I received a chin wax, eyebrow wax, and tint in preparation for the funeral for my mother and sister on October 4, 2025. I broke down crying as I shared what had happened, and in that moment, Isabel showed me a level of kindness and compassion that went far beyond anything expected in her profession. At the end of my visit, Isabel gave me what I believe was the amount she had earned in tips that day to help me in any way she could. It was an act of pure selflessness -- something I will never forget. In a world where genuine compassion can be hard to find, Isabel's actions reminded me that there are still truly good-hearted people out there. What she did went far beyond business -- it was deeply personal, and it touched my heart in a way words can barely express. Thank you, Isabel, for your kindness, empathy, and generosity. You didn't just provide a service that day -- you gave comfort to someone who desperately needed it. That visit will stay with me forever.

She was quick and precise, also, very personable throughout the waxing. She will do great; I believe she will be at the La Grange location.

Booking was easy (I did it online), and you feel pampered every step of the way. After you're checked in you're walked into a locker room where you can change into a bath robe and slippers. From there you can sit in a lounge with a heated neck pillow while you await your massage therapist. My massage therapist was Gogo. She did a wonderful job and accommodated all of my requests. She even gave me suggestions on how to stretch for the troubles I was having. After you're done, you have access to showers to get cleaned up and continue relaxing. They also offer memberships for monthly massages which I think I"m going to get soon! I'll definitely be back.

I chose Spavia Elmhurst after doing a lot of research and being willing to spend extra for what I…read moreexpected would be a high-quality, relaxing massage. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing spa experiences I've had. I booked a 60-minute deep tissue massage with the scalp oil and Hypervolt add-ons. Neither add-on was performed... my scalp was never touched and no massage gun was used though I was initially charged for both (they were only refunded after I reached out). The massage itself felt rushed and incomplete. Most areas of my body were barely worked on, and I left still in pain. When I got up, I noticed the digital wall clock in the room had been partially covered with a towel.. specifically, only the minutes portion was covered. I later realized the session had ended about 5-10 minutes early. Management later claimed that covering the clock is standard practice for guest comfort, but that explanation does not make sense. The clock was not bright at all, and there was a much brighter light left on in the corner of the room the entire time. If a digital clock is supposedly too bright and distracting, then it would make more sense to use a standard wall clock or not have a visible clock at all. Partially covering only the minutes, the part that tells you exactly how much time is left... felt like a very shady business practice rather than a comfort measure. I was also told afterward that my massage was shortened because I arrived late. However, when I checked in, the front desk assured me they were able to push my appointment back and accommodate me so that I would still receive my full 60 minutes. At no point before or during the massage was I informed that my session would be cut short. Letting a guest believe they are getting their full service and then ending early without any communication feels unprofessional. When I contacted them about all of this, the only thing offered was a complimentary add-on for a future visit. but only if I book and pay for another full-price massage. After already spending over $220 and being this unhappy, I don't find it reasonable to be asked to come back and spend another $200 just to receive a small add-on for free. A partial or full refund for the actual massage would have been far more appropriate. I have since been ignored. Overall, this experience did not match the premium price at all. I left sore, stressed, and disappointed. I would not recommend Spavia Elmhurst based on this visit.

I've…read morebeen an intermittent client for several years, and I even took my teenage son to Danielle for a troublesome deep blackhead extraction a while back. She made him feel comfortable and took care of the issue. As for me she's dyed my lashes and given me facials. Today I went for a facial particularly focused on some inset calcified blocked pores, and I asked for some suggestions on finally taking care of my neglected 50+ year old skin! The time with Danielle was very productive. She managed to get the white lumps extracted and my skin on my face and neck was treated like royalty! The studio is welcoming and quiet, and while there was a little bit of pain during the extraction, it was a wonderful experience. I leave confident and refreshed and more knowledgeable! My next appointment is in two weeks for an eyelash and eyebrow tint in preparation for my vacation. I know the color will be natural looking and give me the lift I need. Very reasonable and fair pricing, with individual attention. A value for sure. Simply "Fabulous!"

This lady rocks!

They were able to accommodate our needs and concerns during our session. Our room was very clean and included a 45-minute post-massage relax time. We were able to use the steam shower, bathtub and had access to bottled water, tea, and grooming items. Arrival: I'd recommend arriving 10-15mins prior to your massage to give yourself time to park, check-in, fill out form/waiver, and have your sit down introduction with therapists. Parking: Convenient and free reserved hotel parking close to the entrance. Scheduling: The couples massage/spa suite experience books up quick so I'd recommend scheduling 2-3 weeks in advance. I personally think a brief introduction to the functions of the suite's amenities would be very helpful to the guests. Overall it was a great experience.

The spa suites are located on the eighth floor. The facial was pretty standard, slightly mediocre. There were awkward technical issues with the steamer, which took her about five minutes to fix. She did apologize for the issues and ended up getting it working. At the end she had to collect her belongings which is also a little awkward. It would've been great if she could've got the bath started so I didn't have to wait 15 minutes for it to fill up. You have 25 minutes to relax in the room and take a bath or a shower or use the sauna. This would be an excellent experience or well worth it if they allowed more time. The bath took 10 minutes to fill up/figure out and I only had 15 minutes left. 15 minutes is not enough for a bath and to get ready. I would've really enjoyed the amenities if I was allowed more time. I would say 45 minutes would be ideal. I think they should price higher if needed and give people this time. Without time to enjoy the amenities the spa is really just average. I like the brand of soap that they had available and that it is in a private room. Overall, everything just felt very rushed and not relaxing like a spa should be.

I've had facial redness for years now, and my dermatologist confirmed that it was sun damage. I didn't think there was anything that could be done about it, since the dermo kind of shrugged it (and my other concern of a raised bump on my nose) off. Fast forward a few months: a coworker had said something about a treatment that she had done to combat sun damage. My ears perked up and I asked her for more information. Long story short, she referred me to Sandra at Skincare Company Spa. I had my third IPL about 4 weeks ago, and I'm seeing legitimate improvements in my skin: so much cheek redness has already gone away. I never thought this was possible! I'm hoping that a fourth treatment can make a bigger dent in the cheek redness that I have. Some brown spots (that I thought were freckles!) lifted and my skin is smoother than it's ever been. Years of pox marks and cystic acne scars have also lessened. Sandra also targeted some keratosis the last time - AKA that strange bump on my nose that my dermatologist shrugged off as not being important enough to address. Sandra absolutely knows skin! She is thorough and knowledgeable about cultural/geographic implications of skin. On my 1st visit, I shared what I knew (that I was primarily Irish), but by the last/3rd visit, after I'd had two prior treatments, we discussed the specifics of my skin and how the characteristics of my skin indicated that there's more to it than just Irish. I pulled up my (updated) Ancestry, which I hadn't looked at in years, and my results aligned with what Sandra was saying. I learned so much from Sandra, which I love. I'm looking forward to my 4th IPL treatment in a few weeks! Thanks for everything, Sandra.

I have been going to the Oak Brook Terrace Waxing the City location since it opened. Over the past…read moreyear or so, I've noticed a general decline in the overall experience, but I continued going because the location is convenient when I'm already in the area running errands. After what happened today, however, I will not be returning. I came in today, September 30, around 10:20 a.m. in the pouring rain for a simple lip wax. I apologized for being 7 minutes late. The front desk employee immediately told me, "I'll take you this time, but next time I won't." I said I understood, but mentioned that I thought there was a 10-minute grace period. She corrected me and said it was actually 7 minutes. I pointed out that I was, apparently, still within that window. Her response was visibly irritated. Then she asked me to complete a customer profile form. I explained that I had been there within the past few months and asked whether I really needed to complete the entire form again. Her response was essentially, yes, this is what you have to do, which I found odd, but I started filling it out. I then said I needed to use the restroom quickly and would finish the form when I came back. This is where the interaction became completely bizarre. She told me, "We don't need to wax you today." I honestly didn't understand what she meant and asked her to clarify. She then indicated that I didn't need to fill out the form and didn't need to get waxed there today, in a tone that felt like she was refusing to provide the service. She also mumbled something under her breath that I found derogatory. At that point, I said, "What is your problem?" I explained that I had a pedicure appointment immediately afterward anyway and would simply have the service done elsewhere. I then asked for her name because I intended to contact corporate about the interaction. Instead of simply giving me her name or allowing me to leave, she told me I needed to leave and picked up the phone and said "I'm just going to call the police." Yes -- over a customer asking for the employee's name after an uncomfortable interaction about a lip wax. I remained at the front desk and told her that I thought the response was completely extreme and that I would be contacting corporate from my car. I left, contacted corporate, and also contacted the local non-emergency police line to document what had happened. I was told they would conduct a wellness check at the business. I am still genuinely confused about how a routine waxing appointment escalated into this. I have been a customer of this location for years, and I have watched the experience decline, but today's interaction was on an entirely different level. There was no reason for the interaction to become hostile, and certainly no reason for a routine customer-service issue to escalate to the point of possible police involvement. I would strongly recommend going to the Elmhurst Waxing the City location instead. At this point, the convenience of Oak Brook Terrace is not worth the headache. Management/corporate: I sincerely hope this interaction is reviewed, including what happened at the front desk and why a customer who was simply trying to clarify the situation was treated this way. What should have been a five-minute lip wax turned into me leaving in the rain, without the service, after having to make two separate calls to report what happened. Absolutely bizarre.
