I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Saint Louis for a few nights on a press/blogger trip to Courchevel 1850 with Crystal Ski/Flexiski. I was there on a half board basis, which included breakfast, afternoon tea, champagne with canapés, and a three course dinner.
The hotel offers an older chalet-style accommodation. The reception area is small, but welcoming with a tiny lift to the rooms as well as a larger staircase. My room was a bit dated, but very clean and offered a view of the mountains. I was pleasantly surprised by the Molton Brown toiletries in the bathroom. Other perks included a bathrobe and flat screen television (though it only offered two channels!), and free wifi that was speedy enough to stream video. As far as accommodation was concerned, Saint Louis offered a decent place to rest your head at night at a 3-star hotel standard.
Where the hotel really shined was in its dining options. Breakfast was a mix of hot and continental options with plenty of tea and coffee. In the mornings we were given a dinner menu and made our 3-course selection along with a reservation time, which made dining later in the day a breeze. Afternoon tea at around 5pm was lovely, especially after a long day on the slopes. Then at 7pm champagne and canapés are served. After that it was time for dinner, and each night it was fantastic. I had really lovely gnocchi, beef stew, and fish cakes during my stay.
Courchevel 1850 is, as I discovered, quite an expensive place. Saint Louis is a lovely affordable option that also happens to be right across the street from a green slope. The fact that it is dated and just a bit unorganised means that it earns four rather than five stars for me. That being said, I'm already planning a trip back! read more
