The WiFi never once worked in our room, and the staff kept making excuses, like they expected it would. But other guests had the same problem. We had to go outside or to the lobby to connect. There is no restaurant at the hotel, and it's a healthy walk to the downtown commercial area. Their bar/pub is nice and they will order food in for you, which we did one night. But it's not a real meal. Another night we did the 25 minute walk each way to a great restaurant, but had to be sure we got back before they locked the gate at 11pm. Hotel La Villa Eugene did have a few drawbacks we didn't expect.

The room was obviously recently renovated, which was great! The staff was really nice. Our room had small private balcony which we used daily! Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the garden in the back- it looked kinda sparse and sad. The pool looked nice but we didn't use it. I am glad this place had an elevator for our check in and check out with luggage. The hotel is right next door to Mercier Champagne, which is super cool! We are still telling stories about the Marcier Champagne place and everything we learned about Eugene Mercier. We walked down Avenue de Champagne daily and enjoyed walking to all the Champagne houses including Moet and Chandon. It's not that big of a deal, but they don't have a safe in the room. Also, they do not have 'do not disturb' signs which makes it hard if you don't want any maids coming in your room. Last thing, although minor- the key to the room is on a large heavy keychain and they recommend you leave it with the front desk when you head out for the day. First time I have seen a hotel do this- but its such a small and historic place, maybe it's normal for these kinds of hotels. Overall, I would totally recommend this place to friends.

The rooms are very unique and the set up is very cozy. We had a great tour with Anselme Selosse and was treated to some great vintages..he's very friendly and has a great sense of humor. He definitely takes his time to explain how different this region is compared to so many other regions within Champagne. The overall town of Avizes is quaint..takes time to get use to those bells going off at 7am each morning :)

The proprietor's daughter at a local champagne producer recommend this as the only real restaurant nearby. The menu was limited, as we expected, but the choices were good. After tasting champagnes throughout the morning, we didn't need a bottle with lunch. Just a glass. Plus a nice haddock and penne pasta dish with a cream sauce. We ate in a nice patio area, with most of the patrons local. Language was an issue, but with the limited menu we survived fine. This is a nice place to stop for lunch if touring the champagne region north of Epernay.

We didn't do the dinner as we arrived late but the breakfast is a must. When booking, make sure you book inside the chateau or in summer if you can't stand the heat, book near the restaurant for air conditioning-but just know that you won't be in the actual chateau. This place is a centuries old castle that's been modernized. There is a lot of history, and really old art pieces and artifacts throughout the castle, so it's also a bit of a museum. However, to me it feels a bit run down, but maybe that's part of the charm. It was definitely not as luxurious as I imagined or hoped it would be. I'm a traveler, and during my life I've stayed in accommodations ranging from hostels to the most luxurious hotels in the world. With it being a castle, I envisioned a giant plush bed with lots of pillows and an ornate, beautiful marble bathroom. I got neither. Though it was all very clean, so no complaints in that area. We were in Champagne during harvest, and this area is more farmland than vineyard and, so it really smelled like a farm. And the flies were also abuzz. This is obviously not the hotels fault, but just something to be weary of if you come during the beginning of fall. We only stayed one night, and that was good enough for me. We had a nice time at the spa and great dinner at the restaurant, which are both separately reviewed. Our only disappointment, is that we missed out on breakfast, but there is no way we could eat again after the dinner.

It was pretty central to the Epernay town centre, Avenue du Champagne and the big L.Leclerc if you needed anything. Arrival: Don't let the big wall on the street fool you. Once you turn into the driveway it's beautiful. Bellman: They were helpful and took our luggage to our room. Reception/Front Desk: Very friendly welcome. Lobby: The lobby area is ok with a couple of small sitting areas. Room: We were in room on the first floor. We booked a classic double room which was fine size wise and fit our needs for the stop over. View: We had windows that opened up to the front garden of the hotel. Bed: The queen size bed was very comfortable. Bathroom: The bathroom was fine. The size wasn't small, but it wasn't big. The shower and bathtub was one. Hair dryer: It was one of those which were attached to the walls. I am not a fan of these dryers because they're slow and this one you had to keep your finger on the button to keep it going. It died after awhile. Products: Etro products which were ok. If you want hair conditioner you need to call and ask housekeeping. Closet: The closest was very small and hidden. At first I didn't think we had one until we saw the small sliding door next to the mini bar. Safe: Regular safe in room available. Control Panel: N/A. Just a remote for the TV. Minibar: Very standard with the traditional options. Mirrors: There was one mirror. Housekeeping: Fine. Wifi: The wifi speed was good. Dining outlets we visited: The hotel has a bar, a michelin star restaurant and a patio where you can eat breakfast. 1. The bar was very cozy where we had a glass of champagne. Definitely have a drink there. 2. We didn't eat in the restaurant because we didn't feel like doing a fancy restaurant while on holiday even though the hotel really pushes it. 3. The patio where we had breakfast was disappointing. The service was bad, the food was below average and it was expensive. Breakfast is not included in the room rate and is 22 Euros per person. I asked for soft boiled eggs and they came out in between soft and hard. My husband asked for baked eggs and they came out like frisbees. Spa: Didn't check out the spa. Concierge: They did help us with reservations at Moet et Chandon and offered a few restaurant recommendations. Style: The hotel is very old school. Note: It was raining the two days were were in Champagne and unfortunately didn't get to fully experience their garden which looked amazing. We did a quick walk in between rain showers and there were nice paths, herb garden and open space to walk. Pet friendly: Dogs are welcome at 50 Euros per day - very expensive! They put a bed, water and food bowls in the room which is nice. Dogs are not allowed anywhere in the hotel except for the lobby area and the room. At 50 Euros you would think should be allowed everywhere in the hotel. Would I go back? Probably not. The hotel was fine, but it wasn't our style.
