Great time this morning picking apples at Hy's! I really appreciated that their website has a list of what weekends you can pick which apples, and that the orchard is open for picking through November to boot!! Today we were able to pick Macintosh, Galas, Cortlands, Empires and everything looks and smells glorious. The orchards seemed well maintained and the signs show you to which rows you're allowed to pick in; staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely stop in the shop for apple cider and donuts, and if you're there around lunch check out the BBQ food truck! I tried the smoked macaroni and cheese, green beans, and baked beans--fun to eat a tasty lunch in the sun, and not too far from the orchards. My friend said the pulled pork was delicious! read more

Definitely worth the drive out to Romeo to visit Hy's Cider Mill. We had a beautiful fall day and loved seeing all the colorful trees. The cider and donuts were cheaper than the larger competitors in the area and more delicious in our opinion It was also less crowded. You can also do u-pick for apples. They had a BBQ food truck. We got some smoked mac and cheese. It was delicious (although a little expensive at $13 for a small container). Overall we enjoyed our trip to Hy's and we will be back next year. read more

They didn't have any plain donuts ready yet. We got the cinnamon sugar doughnut, warm cider and an apple turnover. But he did up the turnover, not so warm, topped it with caramel and peanuts. The turnover was made better with the caramel and the peanuts for sure. Turn over itself is just OK. Now the cinnamon, sugar donut is fantastic, so fresh, crispy and crunchy. That's the best and freshest cinnamon, sugar donut I've ever had. The dough is soft and almost buttery. I came right out of the oven, that could have something to do with the freshness of it and the melt in your mouth sensation. The hot cider was actually hot. This is the Second of six stops today at cider mill's. The cider making process here in the back, seems more efficient than other cider mills. We did not see any press machine, it's all done internally. Their donuts, were the freshest and the best so far today. Small Store, but quite functional. I can see that it would get chaotic if there's a lot of people here, as the inside store is very small. They're warm cider was just average, nothing special. At least it was hot. The total for one single cinnamon, Apple turnover and a small warm cider was $5. read more

It takes me nearly an hour and a half to drive to Hy's but it's worth it. The best cider bar none (and a little less expensive than the other cider mills), great hot donuts, views of their massive cider bottling operation, a pretty drive, and a classic cider mill experience without the carnival antics of some of the other cider mills. New for this year (to me anyway) were the fresh potato chips in a dozen flavors. The hot cider is nicely spiced and the cider slushes are very flavorful. I'll be back next year! read more

Hands down, Hy's cider is the best cider in the world! Always cold and juicy along with delicious and fluffy donuts. It was super busy when I was there with my party but rightfully so. This orchard is what an orchard should be. It's small, family owned, affordable, and fun! The donuts are delicious, they are making them fresh so they are warm when you get them. The cider is delicious and you can watch it being made. The caramel apples are also good and don't cost an arm and a leg. As far as the orchard, it isn't commercialized. You can pick your own apples for at least a third less than the larger orchards. You can walk or take a tractor out to the orchards and pick apples as you walk back. It reminds me of how orchards were when I was a kid! Once you are done picking the apples, grab a table, some cider, and some donuts, and enjoy eating them at a picnic table. When the kids are ready to play, they have huge old fashioned hay bales to keep the kids entertained. No gimics, no petting zoo, no large crowds. I can't say enough about this place! Ooooh, and for those who have dogs, they are dog friendly outside as long as you clean up after your pet, they are on a leash, and they are friendly. read more

Came to this Apple Orchard for the first time last Sunday. It was pretty busy, but we were able to pick our apples quickly and easily. Good cider and donuts. Our family loves Hy's so much, we continue to drive 65 miles one-way so that we can enjoy it throughout the autumn. We moved out here last year, and we've tried the mills within a few miles of our home and have been seriously disappointed. Hy's has set a gold standard that they simply cannot meet! The cider is hands-down our favorite, and we have gone to at least a dozen other mills. The flavor and consistency is wonderful, and they know how to maintain these while still pasteurizing the product. The donuts are perfection. They are, of course, the best when they are still hot and sizzling out of the fryer, but even if they've cooled down a bit, they retain the fantastic crisp on the outside, soft on the inside bite and have delicious flavor. Prices are more than fair for such great products. I've bought honey in their shop too, because it is better priced than anywhere else I've seen. They don't have bounce houses and all of that extraneous crap a lot of other mills have flocked to, but a copious amount of picnic tables and large hay bales for climbing keep our three-year-old very content. Hy's is the reason our son has declared every Saturday in autumn to be renamed Ciderday, and most weekends, that is exactly what it is! We will be stocking up before they close for the season and freezing several gallons to tide us over. They are the best! read more

These guys know just how to do apple picking, fun for kids, reasonably priced cider, pumpkin buying, and more! this is now our go-to place for apple picking. They have so many delicious varieties. This year we got the Fuji, yellow delicious, and Empire. Empire are great for baking and soft to eat. Fuji are just sweet and tart and so big here! They have real farm prices here and not the overly charged ones that they do at other farms and cider mills around Rochester. I moved to Madison Heights in the summer of 2013. Me and my aunt picked apples at Hy's twice in the 2019 apple picking season. Before this year, I thought Stony Creek orchard was my favorite apple picking place. Now Hy's is my favorite apple picking place. I like the round wood basket-like crates they let us borrow to help carry our apples, which Stony Creek doesn't have. I like the lack of commercialization or carnival-like atmosphere I saw at Blake's orchard. And they have Jonathon apple for picking, my (current) favorite apple. read more
