In that case, be careful of students and staff who are constantly walking in the parking lot. Traffic for the most part while driving isn't too bad, despite the layout being a challenge when getting on the plaza roadway, when it's busy. In the main parking lot, there is plenty of room and space to move around, which I've had no trouble at all. The only time I've seen it fairly full is during the weekends and holidays. For the most part, I'm impressed to see everything move smoothly. With its services offered here, take caution of your surroundings.

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety in this store - things like party supplies, snacks, cleaning products, health and beauty products, spices, and more. Greeting cards were 2 for $1! I'm really surprised Stop & Shop did not try to discourage this store from coming in, as it feels like they have better deals on non-grocery products here. This is a great add to the plaza.

It wasn't too crowded when I first walked in, but there was chaos otherwise near the registers. I found a present on a table marked everything's a dollar (and although the person I was buying for has yet to open their gift) I found it rather quickly. I gave it some thought. Now normally when I come in on other days, lines flow rather quickly but today I was hoping I'd get the same experience but found the lines to be moving slower than normal. I get it- it's Christmas Eve and I doubt the register clerk really didn't want to be there at 5pm, but saying "I only work by the hour" isn't the way you want to treat the customers in line. And it doubled with the other line, and there was no third register open though there was a register without anyone staffing it. I know I'll feel in here again for other things, but I won't be back here for any future Christmas package items in any other years.

Stop & Shop and Big Lots are no doubt the big grabbers. The parking lot is in somewhat good condition but not the best due to some paving that needs to be addressed. Traffic, for the most part, can be a nightmare, especially at the stoplight near Big Lots, as it can back up to the intersection. We have been coming here for many years and have never had any serious issues. Check your surroundings, and everything will be okay.

The "treasure hunt" aspect is what makes it fun. They have clothes, hardware, kitchenware, pet supplies, toys, and the list goes on and on. The prices are also very reasonable. I bought an extremely comfortable, fleece blanket, and quite a few clothing items that I would've probably easily paid over $100 for out the door at a regular store. I only paid about 50. Depending on the frequency of your visit you are bound to find at least one commodity you adore that can be added to your closet; maybe even two, but doubtfully more then that. Whatever you choose will likely be in excellent shape and at a garage sell price that nobody is able to disapprove of. During my first visit here I bought a black peacoat that kept me fashionably warm during winter...$4. I returned the following January and acquired another nice coat for only $5. One time my friend walked out with a $5, 3-piece suit, amazing! You almost feel like you're stealing, but you're not and I am sure if you sincerely cannot pay for something you desire or need that Second Hand will make arrangements for you to take it home. Second Hand Rose is good for more then just clothing. Stuffed animals, photo frames, pins, and the only shop I know of where you can pay 5 cents for hotel soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. I once purchased an old school fondue set for roughly $6, which I still have today. It might also be somewhere to scout out "cash in the attic" sort of stuff if that is what you're into that. The shop is small, yet clean and uncluttered; managed by sweet, little ol' Methodist church ladies who volunteer their time to the community. They kindly pack your purchases in donated department store bags so you get the feeling as if you just bought something from H&M or Gap and you are able to skip happily on with the rest of your day a little bit more optimistic about the world around you. Additional Information about Second Hand Rose: -No Cell Phones. Random I know, but I suppose since it is such a small shop that ringing and loud talking would undoubtedly disturb the other customers (fine by me, I don't need to know what you need to pick up from the store before getting home). -Cash only. For real, otherwise you have to go to the ATM located around the corner. Inconvenient, not to mention that $2+ fee. -If you cannot find street parking, use Kennedy Fried Chicken's private lot located a measly couple of stores away, but don't forget to lock your doors. -Although there was only once I went and it wasn't open, check the hours of operation before making the trip, as they are limited. -This store is not about making money, it is about letting the people of Poughkeepsie know that they are loved. The owners of this store and the volunteers who run it are true servants to the community, make sure to support them if you are able, especially if you enjoy thrift store shopping.
