    King room

I stayed here on a business trip on a Thursday night. Great location in downtown State College and walking distance to the downtown bars/restaurants. When I arrived around 2:30 (check-in is at 3 pm), the area you park to check-in was small and already full. The hotel is on the left side of Beaver Ave and the parking garage is on the right side--there is no street parking. I pulled into the parking garage and grabbed a ticket, although for hotel guests there is an area to swipe your hotel room key and parking is then added to your bill ($11) and parked. I walked over to the hotel and checked in (check in on second floor). They will take the parking garage ticket from you and add it to your bill. No biggie. The room was really nice/clean with a king size bed near the 6th floor window with a view over part of town, mostly other building roofs, but it was still a nice view. There was also a mini sectional couch, a coffee maker and a mini-fridge (usually standard in most hotels). A pretty decent breakfast buffet was included that had scrambled eggs, sausage, hard boiled eggs, fruit, fruit juices, oatmeal, pancakes, waffle maker, coffee, and a mix of potatoes and sausage. We visited the bar area while waiting on other people to arrive. It's small but had a decent choice of beers and liquors. The bar staff was very personable. We used a conference room for our meeting with a conference call phone. They placed bottles of water at every place setting, which was nice, but the water was warm. The only thing we didn't really like was that we had to give a staff member of the hotel our call in number, passcode and security (host) code as they wouldn't let us dial out on our own. This is the only place we've ever been that requires this. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and we intend on returning for future meetings/overnight stays.

Long black hair in dirty shower

This hotel was filthy. I cannot believe it is a Hyatt. The carpet was dirty, stained and didn't appear to have been vacuumed in quite some time. Even worse, the bathroom had not been cleaned. The shower still had long black hair all over it when I walked in. I have blonde hair..... so Hyatt housekeeping has no recourse in this discussion. The bathroom had not been cleaned before it was assigned to me....which made me curious about the sheets and towels. We're they clean, or simply reused?

The hotel has staff that has no idea what attention to detail means. I checked in a few hours ago, went to eat, and when I came to take a shower, I found a dirty bathroom. The towels had hair on them.

    Water

I went to the Hyatt's bar on the second floor and ordered a water. It was great! It was the perfect cold temperature with ice AND it even had a slice of lemon in it. Delicious!

New hotel convenient to Penn State University Park campus. Offers free breakfast and $10 in and out parking directly across the street. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Our rate for admitted students day was a reasonable $93 dollars for a room with 2 queens and a sofa bed. Staff friendly and check-in a breeze. Decent room view on 6th floor of campus, town and distant mountains. Couple of items making this a just ok place: Enter at street level to an empty lobby and bell desk. Took some time to figure out reception desk was on the second floor. No ice machine installed during our visit, already in jambes, so I had to forgo ice in my nightcap. Lastly, attempted to book a room for student drop off in August, and found that the best price for the room was 4x times what we paid.

Location location location this hotel has a great location. Right in the center of town next to an above a Target Store. They have free parking in the parking deck across the street. It's walking distance to almost everything in town. It was reasonably clean in a much newer facility. Much better than some of the older ones I've stayed at in town. I was a little disappointed with the blackout shades they worked about 95%. One of them had some damage to it and let a little bit of light in. Otherwise I'll be staying at this hotel from now on anytime I visit State College.

Great Location, very nice modern clean hotel. Best View in Happy Valley by far. From our room we could see Old Main, Beaver Stadium, Mt. Nittany, and Tussey Mountain. Not many locations in State College where you can see all of that. Saw other reviews with complaints about parking - I don't understand. There's a 6 story parking garage literally steps across the street. The hotel gives you a card at check-in that lets you in and out of the garage as often as you would like during your stay. Garage tall enough for my Tahoe with roof rack. Breakfast is great too, better than most free hotel breakfasts. Would stay again for sure.

Worst Hyatt that I have ever been to. Only room for four cars in front of building. Had to circle the block four times to very in. While I went to check in a homeless guy wanted talk to my wife in the car. The area was so small the guy in front of us in line almost hit my car. When you park for the night you have to park in a structure across the street. I didn't like it, and I definitely wouldn't want my wife or daughter in the after hours. When you enter the site on the first floor you find the lobby is on the second floor. So you have to hump up the stairs or try to figure out their Elevator. Room was acceptable. Had a large bump out from the wall for service piping. It made noise all night. At 6:00 we awoke to the sound of the garbage truck emptying the dumpsters in the alley. But they are fine in about a half hour. Went to breakfast. It looked awesome, but tasted awful. EVERYTHING was cold, except for the pot of powdered eggs. We threw it away and went to a gas station for something to eat. I would never go back to this property. Hyatt's are usually fantastic but this one is bad.

Their…read moreThanksgiving this year was an entree selection with an unlimited selection of sides and a dessert buffet. We arrived 5 minutes early and were led to a round booth instead of a regular table. I am in a sling from recent shoulder surgery, so I need to sit at a regular dining table with chairs. This was a problem since they only wanted to seat us in a booth. The host had us wait for a bit to find a solution while we looked around. We noticed many regular, empty tables. The host came back with a chair for me to place next to the booth. As we were about to sit down, a server or other host stopped by and stated this won't work (perhaps blocks access for servers?). So we had to wait for them to come up with a different solution. The hostess led us to a counter-height table with bar stools outside the restaurant. We thought that was unusual and this should have been a red flag. We weren't exactly comfortable, as we kept sliding off the bar stools. Worse, we were far from the dessert buffer and in a common area where other people walked past. We were confused as to why we couldn't get a regular table. We had to wait a bit for staff to get place settings and menus. Then our waiter arrived, except he identified himself as the bartender and stated up front that he might get busy tending the bar. That was the second red flag. He then explained that they were sold out of one of their five entrees thanks to the morning demand for it. They're running out of ingredients already in the afternoon? Third red flag. The waiter (bartender) took our order. Soon we had our drinks, but there was something wrong with my iced tea. It just tasted like fountain water instead of tea, even though it did have a little color to it. How do you mess up something as simple as iced tea? Forth red flag. We waited a while without any food. Our bartender/server did stop by and apologize for the delay, stating the kitchen was preparing "19 soups" or something along that line, and that we'd get our entrees in 5-10 minutes. Half an hour later, still nothing. At about the 45 minute mark we were using our phones to look for other restaurants that might be open on Thanksgiving day. An hour after we were seated, a different waiter finally brought us soup. We asked the waiter why it's taking so long for our entrees. He apologized and stated that he'd make sure he puts our order at the front of the queue. Unfortunately the French Onion soup was cold, or lukewarm at best, with a soggy crostini on top. Perhaps this soup had been sitting forever after it was prepared and our bartender/waiter didn't serve it to us in time, and another waiter had to bring it to us after it was already cold? Fifth red flag. Then after about ten minutes, the waiter brought us a basket of cold bread. Did they forget to serve this earlier? Worse, they provided no plates for us yet in which to eat the bread. Sixth red flag. At that point we had enough: we left and notified the hostess of the issue. It was one and a quarter hours with no entrees, seated in an awkward and uncomfortable location that should never have been offered, with a waiter that's unavailable because he's tending bar, and being served cold food much too late. We didn't even get a chance to look at the dessert buffet since we had no entrees and were seated so far away. We also didn't prepare any food at home because we had reservations and expected a proper dining table instead of this nightmare. The staff, although very friendly and courteous, seemed confused and unable to make proper decisions. The hostess was a bit shocked we waited so long without any entrees. This had to be the worst dining experience we've had in a long time. For this Thanksgiving, we had to go "Christmas Story" style and eat at Penang Asian Fusion Cuisine, one of the few places open. Needless to say, I'd recommend avoiding the Nittany Lione Inn and Lionne: we took a chance and now regret it. For $70-60 per person you'd expect to be treated far better.

The room also had very nice views of the street and neighborhood. Arrival was uneventful. The desk clerks were courteous and efficient. I would note that this hotel's floor concept is at the European model, meaning the first floor is not where the lobby happens to be, but it is the entrance to the garage. Hotel's decor was fairly old-school, pun intended. The wallpaper is like an old library, with college shields on each door. Quite evoking of the nature of State College. Rooms were nicely decorated, but my only reason for not 5 stars is the room was a bit musty, apparently they kept the air conditioning off during summer days. Not a problem, we dialed down the temperature appropriately.... The showers have all the necessary accouterments and have been recently remodeled. Went for coffee downstairs and ordered a specialty coffee; Mark was attending downstairs and we ended up on a nice conversation about 70s and 80s music. Everyone in the hotel staff is quite friendly. Outside of front desk team…read moremembers being friendly, the overall experience has been well below general expectations for a Hilton - and even basic expectations of any hotel! Some serious concerns about this hotel: 1- First night the air conditioning would not work. It was uncomfortably hot in the room. Called the front desk and the person said no one was around to help - so "just open a window." We did, and had an evening with an open window with no screen. Luckily no daredevil squirrels climbed in and no birds - or bats - chose to invade our space! 2- After three days - there had been no room service. No fresh towels - no emptying of trash - and no replacement of toilet paper. This was after I was leaving the room one day and "room service" was at the door and, in a somewhat rude manner, asked: "Do you want room service?" I said - "oh yes - thank you - I was just leaving." She appeared to go into the room - but I have no idea what she did as, again, no towels were changed out, trash was still in the trash cans, and beds were not made. 3- We ran out of toilet paper, so we asked for some - and then went out. I have included a picture of what we found upon our return - toilet paper left outside of the room - not even brought into the room and put on the roller. 4- An unexplained charge appeared on my card from the hotel - at 11:11 PM when the whole family was in bed. I inquired on this, and as of this time, no one at the hotel can figure out what was charged - still waiting on that to hopefully be explained and, if in error, resolved. 5- The treadmill in the gym has been broken and out of order - as such, I had to go to Planet Fitness. Yet, we have been charged a $10/day "resort fee." This is NOT a resort - and am entirely unclear what this $10 a day charge is going toward. 6- While hot water worked in the morning - by 9:00 PM we did not have any hot water. I called and the person at the front desk said "oh, just keep the water running - it has to come from the other side of the building so it takes awhile to heat up." Uhm, we left it running for about 10 minutes - just cold water. I am unsure how this hotel was allowed to have the Hilton name. Needless to say, we will not be staying here again.
