It is not possible to use the bathroom without the fan being on 5. The sink is outside the bathroom. This means there is no surface anywhere inside the bathroom where I can put my stuff and I have to leave the bathroom to get a comb or whatever. 6. The selection of TV channels is small. No streaming, nothing premium. 7. The only charger port is USB 8. All the lamps are below eye level. Weird shadows and hard to see things. I have stayed at a bunch of Marriot properties and this is the worst room I've had, but not the least expensive. On the plus side, the wifi works great so I can leave this review.

Overall, it was clean and in a great location (not far from PSU and next door to The Waffle House and The Greek). Those were the pluses. So, what was wrong? I can live with the outdated furniture and decor as well as the ripped plastic shower door for a night as I believe they're working on updating rooms. (Some of the other rooms we peeked in as they were being cleaned seemed slightly better.) However, how difficult is it to get rid of the junk outside? Our friends who were staying elsewhere thought it was hysterical that a random bureau was just sitting right outside the motel. Also, we had an easy chair parked directly under our window along with a laundry basket and dirty linens. The basket and linens were there the whole day and were still there when we returned around midnight. Out the back window was a kiddie pool that looked like it hadn't been drained in 3 years along with all kinds of junk. The hanging baskets with flowers that I had seen in pictures were completely empty. Additionally, when we returned at 12 a.m. after a long day, there was not one parking space left and we had to park in The Waffle House parking lot. Updating is expensive. I get it. But throwing away junk like old furniture as well as planting and maintaining flowers should be easy.

I was told that the room wasn't ready yet, and they charged my card at that time. Since the room wasn't available, I went downtown to the Arts Fest. I got back to the motel about 11pm, to get my room key. I was going to stop in the pub there for something to eat. When I go close to the door, I saw two guys, one visibly intoxicated, and the other trying to talk him out of whatever issue they had had inside. They settled the issue, and went back inside. I decided against going in. Walking around the corner to get my bags, I saw that 2 or 3 rooms on each floor had the doors open, and the guests sitting outside, on benches and the floor, drinking. Finally getting into my room, I went to use a towel, and the towel rack immediately fell apart. I went to call the front desk, but no one picked up. At that point, I noticed that the room clock wasn't working. It had been unplugged, but it didn't work once I plugged it in. Trying to go to sleep, I noticed that 3 of the 4 pillow cases were dirty, in one way or another. But I was tired enough, and I went to sleep. It wasn't until the morning that I noticed the toilet, pictured here. That got me to looking around, where I also saw the dried red residue near the fridge. Getting no answer on the room phone, I called the motel on my own phone. I finally got through to someone who told me that the housekeeping staff was new, and that their work had not been checked. I was told to talk with the owner, but because I didn't let them know sooner, they weren't going to do anything for me. And the owner wasn't available anyway. At that point, I just wanted to leave, so we settled that. I tried calling the property to talk with the owner-four attempts over three days, and I spoke (politely) to someone each time, leaving a brief message with my name and phone number. In one call, I was told that Sabrina was the owner. In another call, Frank was the owner, before I was finally told that Frank and Sabrina co-owned the property. As of this writing, a week after checking out and five days after my last message for the owner(s), I've not heard back from anyone.

A special shout out to housekeeper Pam, I am not sure if she is a one woman crew but she is the only housekeeping staff person I saw my entire stay and she is wonderful. She not only keeps the rooms immaculate but she is approachable, personable and knowledgeable and definitely worth mentioning. If she is indeed the only housekeeper you wouldn't believe it by both her pleasantness and cleanliness of the rooms. I locked myself out of the room in the middle of the night due to a fire alarm going off and she promptly unlocked the door and behaved modest when I tipped her. She is a rare gem and staff like her make staying here worth while and make the experience feel more like staying at a full service hotel rather than a no frills motel. Don't judge a book by it's cover, if you're on a budget and need a place to rest your head in state college, be sure to check this place out

My family has been staying with NB for years and we've never had a bad stay. They are farther than most, (PAST waffle shoppe) but if you have a car while visiting State College, it really doesn't make a difference. The only downfall is their booking policy--you pay in full, and it's 100% non-refundable. Most of the more updated hotels in the area have some sort of a refund policy, or at least half-now-half-upon-check-in setups, but that's not the case here. Understandably this establishment is mostly cheaper than the other, closer spots, but if anything needed updating I would say that it would be the above. Overall the staff is friendly and helpful and there's a bottle shop located right in the office (talk about conviene) so I would say a solid 4/5.

We would definitely stay here again. [The present owners are in the process of retiring and have the B&B up for sale- we hope the new owners keep up the standards the present owners have.]

Given the circumstances we're living with in 2020, I honestly didn't think I would get the chance…read moreto safely travel again for a couple of years. So when a family member approached me and asked me if I wanted to stay at this inn, I was surprised; but, after learning more, I excitedly said yes. This was the right decision and led to a fantastic and relaxing weekend away from the city. This nature inn sits in Bald Eagle State Park and has 16 guest rooms, a handful of meeting room/library spaces, and is absolutely beautiful. The rooms on one side of the inn overlook a lake, with the other side facing a cluster of trees. My relative and I ended up facing the trees, but we were totally fine with that - especially since the fall foliage was starting to set in. We were on the 2nd floor, so we were able to enjoy the view from a private balcony throughout the weekend; it looked like the 1st floor rooms had little patios instead, so no matter what, guest rooms have some sort of outdoor seating. Normally, guests would all be able to enjoy a communal patio and fire pit here. Granted, some other guests (as it appeared that a large group came here together) did go ahead and enjoy this space. My relative and I did not because avoiding people is a must these days, but still, what we saw of these spaces looked great. Definitely something to remember for the future. Speaking of avoiding people - it's 2020, so naturally, my relative and I were focused on what the inn is doing to protect guests. The answer is, plenty! Cleaning and sanitizing the inn is a big thing, naturally. The small size of the inn definitely helps, as it's not particularly big and doesn't lend itself to the gathering of huge crowds. Masks are a must and for the most part, this rule was adhered to; I passed by a couple of guests that I think just forgot theirs momentarily, but staff definitely took the rule seriously. Their dining room is currently closed - all meals are prepped and offered as take-out or delivery. Fortunately, the rooms include a fridge, so it was super easy for my relative and me to bring snacks and store our leftovers so that we were stocked and well-fed all weekend. Also, while you can request items that you need for your room, daily turn-down service is not happening right now - that way, only guests are in their rooms during their stay. The result was that I felt extremely relaxed while I was in the inn, knowing that my space and health was being respected and taken seriously. A couple of notes - the mattresses here were admittedly very hard and uncomfortable, and while they didn't ruin our stay, it's still nice to have my comfy soft bed back. I don't really hold this against the inn though since, frankly, I think all hotel beds are uncomfortable by default. Speaking of things I don't hold against them - this is a nature inn, so you better expect some of the local wildlife to try to get into your room. When I first opened my balcony door some stinkbugs fell onto me because they had gathered around the door frame - whoops! The good news is that the door itself was very well sealed, so the little jerks couldn't get in when the door was closed. Again, I don't hold that against the inn at all, seeing as it's set right in a state park. Still, I think it's fair to remind other guests and readers that when you visit a nature park, you better be ready to experience everything nature throws at you. We stumbled across this bed and breakfast and it didn't disappoint! We weren't really sure what to expect as this was our first time staying at a B&B but David was a great host. He made us feel very welcome and comfortable during our stay. The house was very cozy. The house built in 1910 has preserved a lot of the original beauty and is tastefully decorated. David is only the 4th owner of the property and the manager of the bed and breakfast. The breakfast was really enjoyable! We started with juice, coffee, fruit and yogurt. Next we had eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and more! He also had tea, biscottis and danishes available. We were stuffed and ready for a nap after eating. Would definitely recommend the property if looking for a place in the area. The house has 2 bedrooms with private bathrooms and 3 additional bedrooms that share a bathroom.

This stately property sits atop a hill; you can't help but notice it as you drive through the quaint neighborhood of Tyrone. The house is beautiful inside and out. Paul has done an incredible job at restoring the place and I so appreciate the historical significance of the structure. They have even taken the time to provide a write-up on the history of the home. Paul stayed up late for us after a long ride in and was incredibly attentive our entire stay. The home is very clean and tidy. Our corner room was all setup and nicely kept: elegant bedding, plenty of closet space, water bottles for our convenience and even freshly cut flowers. As the saying goes, its all in the details. It truly is a bed & breakfast. Paul cooked up a storm for guests on Sunday. There was so much to choose from; pancakes, bacon, eggs, coffee, muffins, and lots more! Would absolutely stay here again. Paul, you are a wonderful innkeeper and quite a good chef!
