I've been to Hyatt a number of times and never had a bad experience. I picked up an amazing Sig P320 for next to nothing and it came with a Wilson Combat grip and a handful of internal upgrades... I then promptly added a Sig threaded barrel and paired it with my MODX-9 to create a new range toy. I also had them Cerakote my Sig X-Five Legion and the they finished it in a couple days. The first time I went it was great . The staff member assisted me and answered all my questions about a Glock 20 I was interested in . I planned on going back after looking at all the selection available. I wanted to pay cash so I intended on coming back for the firearm. When I returned I had have stood around for a few minutes before someone could get off their cell phone or reminisce with whomever to get help . On top of that , the Glock was gone . I asked the staff and he said he'd be right with me . I literally stood there for close to 20 minutes like really ???? . Finally someone "helped" and told me the firearm was in the wrong cabinet and shouldn't have been there but also that it's sold ?? so I asked was there another one available at that price that was listed and I had taken a photo of it. Husband wanted to check out some hard to find ammunition for one of his rifles. This store had what he needed. Husband is more knowledgeable with this kind of thing. I more or less wandered through the store. There was a lot of military memorabilia on display which was very interesting. The items from WW2 mainly caught my eye. Steve asked about my special situation for me and I received a quote that same day for a super low price. I dropped it off on a Monday to get it in StormTrooper White along with a piece I wanted to get color-matched a purple lavender color. They said to call back at the end of the week on Friday, but I got a call 2 days later saying they were all done. Wow! Mr. Mike B did an awesome job on my case. The white cerakoting was spotless and although the purple wasn't perfect, it was close enough for me. I walked out of there with a beautiful shiny new case in record speed (all for $70 which is a fantastic price point). I've been here many times since Sept 2020 (new to this environment!). I've had nothing but positive experiences with each visit. With the crazy pandemic and civil unrest, the store is likely busier than ever. While the store inventory is extensive, service is less than personable. This is comparable to a large chain big box store (that level of service) since they are so busy. Being new to guns, I expected more guidance from the guys here, but that was not happening. You have to come here knowing already what you want. I guess the choices are just too broad. They should also give classes on gun cleaning and maintenance -- you should not have to resort to YouTube! Only bad experience -- within 2 days of buying my gun, I wanted to get something different. They told me that they could only buy it back as USED even though it had not even been taken out of the box yet, let alone fired! They offered me ONE THIRD of the cost I paid which I thought was ridiculous. They gave me some BS line about how it is already registered blah, blah, blah. Well, you can take new cars back that are already registered so why not firearms that are still new? Later, I bought another gun, but checked here first. I've had a mixed bag when it comes to my visits to Hyatt. The bad; First thing I'll say is that they have some pretty high prices. 35 dollars for a Gen 3 windowed PMag is just hilariously absurd for something that is 15 dollars down the street at BlackStone. Second, I had them do a re-pin and weld on a barrel and it looked like they ran it over with a tank to get it off and then backed over it again to get it back on. There was no reason such a simple process should have ruined a muzzle device and especially for what they charge for the work. The good; the employees are usually pretty helpful and nice, and they generally have a good stock of top tier stuff like Magpul, Geissele, Radian, etc. The prices and the experience with the gunsmiths are what makes my review what it is. In general I try to go to BlackStone down the street because their prices compete with Primary Arms, Midway, Brownells, etc. and they have a lot of inventory even in the 2020/2021 madness. I'd say most of the people that shop at Hyatt are new to the gun word because once you realize their game you go elsewhere. read more

Nightmare experience!!! I am located in Texas and ordered a firearm from Hyatt in March 2020. Two months goes by and I get no shipping notifications. So I contact them. They tell me that they "attempted" to reach out to the Academy I requested it be sent to to obtain FFL info but did not hear back. Hmm... interesting how Cheaper Than Dirt already has this in their system, buyers can just choose the FFL online and it ships out quickly! Ok, so I, the customer, take matters into my own hands and call Academy. I procure the store manager's email address and get it over to Hyatt. 24 hours later, Hyatt tells me that they have the FFL info needed and that my firearm will ship soon. Awesome! Good to go, right? Not exactly. A week later, I've heard nothing and email Hyatt for an update. Hyatt tells me that my firearm is still on its way to them from the distributor. Say what? Ok, so I call them and a gentleman tells me that it has actually just arrived on a pallet and will ship out the next day. Wonderful! The end is in sight, even though one Hyatt employee's story does not match with the next's! A few days later, still no shipping notification. So I call them again and am informed that they have NOT received the FFL info from the Academy in my area BUT they have another Academy on file about 30 miles from me. Ok, so at this point, I'm willing to drive wherever I need to in order to end this agonizing ordeal. I ask them to ship it there! So now after almost 3 months of nonsense, I have my firearm! I am happy with the product, but I have no idea if I've dealt with a business or a circus when it comes to Hyatt. And it's such a shame because I bought from Hyatt because their price was $100 less than Cheaper Than Dirt. I see now that with all of the unnecessary work I put into this, that I would have been better off paying a higher price. It's going to be Cheaper Than Dirt from now on! I cannot trust Hyatt with my business ever again! read more

These folks are still flipping amazing. This week, I bought my third firearm from Hyatt and this week, it was my third excellent experience. It helped that I kinda knew what I wanted, so when he brought it down from the display and I had my first chance to hold it and feel it and take a sight picture, it was a sale. My sales clerk was almost a little stunned when I said "Yep, I'll take it." The sales process was perfectly smooth and very speedy. Of course, there's the mandatory federal paperwork and that didn't take long. They took my drivers license and my concealed carry permit to the xerox machine while I went through that. Yes, no, no, no, etc. Easy. Did I need any accessories? "Not yet." It was a very slight push for an upsell for optics or a sling or ammunition, but he knew from my response that I was good and he let it go. Up to the front of the store to pay for it, have the paperwork verified and I was on my way with my new firearm. Hyatt is already the biggest gun shop in the United States. The first time I figured it to be a shipping or delay from Ruger. This time I'm like now you're the problem lol. I ordered a "Special Order" Springfield Elite pistol online and the website said 6-8 weeks to receive my item. Cool, I marked my calendar and patiently waited. 6 weeks came and went so did 7 weeks so did 8 weeks. From my previous experience I figured why not wait another week. 9 weeks I called and no word or gun just wait basically. Long story short, it took roughly 15 weeks to get the gun and by this time other places had it in stock for approximately $100 less. Now during the pandemic I'm noticing much higher prices compared to other stores on guns and ammo. Their gunsmiths are great with fair pricing for any work you need done on your firearms, however any firearm they sell its typically overpriced. I had a rifle transferred to them as my FFL sometime ago to which the woman handling my transaction acted insulted that I bought and transferred in the first place instead of buying a rifle from them. Not to mention they were selling the same exact rifle in their store for well over $600 more than what I paid for mine. Just make sure you compare prices of what you see online before purchasing one of their guns directly because you may find a better deal elsewhere. That being said, huge selection of guns, ammo, accessories, etc and the gunsmiths are top notch so I'd give 3/5 stars read more

I ultimately filed a chargeback on my credit card for my $100 deposit. I did receive a call from the shop a couple days later when they received the chargeback. The caller said that the guy I had been corresponding with had left the company. The caller apologized for the oversight and said he would get my refund processed. I do find it quite hard to leave a negative review on any gun store as we all (gun owners) know the pressures they are under (tons of regulation, zero tolerance, high overhead, low margins, etc). I guess if you see a firearm that you want, you may wish to phone them and ensure it is in stock and stay on top of the process if it's special order. My original fault was not strictly adhering to their stated delivery times and immediately contacting them when those times passed. read more

1. imperative that you know the value of your gun in advance, if you intend to trade it in at Hyatts. I had a very clean Colt Double Eagle 45 that they wanted to give me $275 for trade in value. I later sold the gun for $750 on Armslist 2. VERY EXPENSIVE. Both in price of guns, but particularly used guns. In many cases, you can buy a new gun for the prices they have on used guns. I'm super grateful that they are open and able to supply firearms during a national shortage due to COVID and the racial and political climate of the nation. Most of the staff are super helpful and kind. I have only come across one individual who has made me feel small for not understanding a lot about a new firearm. The only complaint I have is how some of the prices are a bit marked up in comparison to pre-COVID. Idk if this is because of the national shortage, but it's something to be mindful of. You have to show ID when you enter as you have to be 18 to purchase a firearm in NC. It really is amazing the selection of things that they have, from rifles, to shotguns, to handguns. And don't even think about going in here with bad intentions, as every employee has a firearm on his/her side at all times. For me, I was just a tab bit nervous being around so much ammunition but I'm just not used to this type of setting. This is a difficult review since I have easily visited there over twenty times. I've had so many different experiences at Hyatt. Where do I begin? The Good - -You can occasionally get good deals here. If I'm not mistaken, the sales tax in Charlotte is higher than most of South Carolina, so it's hard for Hyatt to have lower prices than South Carolina stores. I would imagine the excise tax on firearms is also higher, but I am not sure. However, there are occasionally times where certain items will be cheaper here than other places. -Some of their staff are helpful, friendly, and know what they're talking about. (This usually happens when I am just browsing, which sounds like my luck.) Even if I said I was not buying today, the staff would still talk about guns with me and show me stuff if they weren't busy. There are times where I have accidentally spent hours looking at guns and talking to them even after I told them I wasn't buying anything that day. -They have a great selection of handguns. They have entire cases full of handguns lining the entire length of the store. -Their ammo prices are usually reasonable. Not the cheapest I've ever seen, but better than range ammo. -They have a large selection of safes. The Bad - -They have a poor selection of long guns and Class 3 items (relative to square footage), compared to other stores. There are stores which have almost just as many guns in a smaller sales area. Their Class 3 selection appears to have been improving recently, but it is still not very good. Their wall can easily hold more rifles and shotguns, but they just don't fill it up. Their rifle selection almost never has what you're looking for. Plenty of stores in Texas have a much better rifle selection in a much smaller area without feeling crowded. -Their selection of lowers is abysmal. They used to have only two lowers. One was an Anderson stripped lower selling for $140. At the time of this review, they are selling from their website for $40, not including a transfer fee from an FFL. The other was a Noveske (Gen I) lower for $500, which was way too high. -Their magazines are too expensive, at least for rifles. They were charging over $20 for Magpul Gen 3 AR mags without a window. They were charging over $60 for M1A mags. -Their staff are occasionally rude, unhelpful, uninformed, and/or try to upsell you. This happened every time I tried to buy a gun at Hyatt (with one exception), unfortunately leading me to not buy one there (with one exception). I was looking at buying a cheap .22lr rifle, but the salesman tried to sell me on a bolt action .308, which was almost twice the price. Another salesman tried to tell me that XM193 was steel core and M855 was a 7.62x39 cartridge. -It's not in the best area of Charlotte, but gun stores are usually in bad areas due to zoning regulations, so I can't really hold it against them. I believe I have captured everything I have experienced at Hyatt. They have very little competition in the Charlotte area. There is Nichols in South Carolina that I would consider to be their main competitor. However, it's relatively far from Charlotte. Therefore, they have little reason to change and fewer indicators that they should improve certain aspects. I hope management sees this review and attempts to improve.
