I've always been a fan of Hy-Vee and have always associated their business with "pay a little more, but receive excellent customer service and a safe/clean place to shop in return". However, I've had back-to-back-to-back bad experiences with the Grand Prairie Hy-Vee lately. I'll caveat this with saying it isn't the main store so much as the "food market" section where you pick what you want and eat there. My wife and I occasionally bring our kids there for dinner to do something different. The past 3 times we have done so, we've picked out our food and paid - only to turn towards the seating section and see all of the oversized/comfy booths occupied by employees on their break. As if this isn't bad enough, it's typically a single employee (i.e. not a group) taking up the entire booth. This has left us with our 3 children under 5 to sit at the uncomfortable and noticeably smaller table/chairs, which have proven complicated and inconvenient to us as the customer. The booths should be for paying customers only. After this happened the first time, I went out of my way to approach a manager from customer service to express my displeasure with the situation. I explained how this inconveniences paying customers who are trying to enjoy a night out with the family, but are limited to where they can sit due to all of the employees on break occupying the space . It's also highly unprofessional...this is why most businesses have employee break rooms or areas. I would be happy if they simply made a policy that employees are only to sit at the "bar" style chairs against the wall (if by themselves) or at a conventional table if in a group. To my dismay, the manager (who looked like a kid himself) laughed it off and said "they do that all the time". He said he could "probably" go talk to the manager of the market section to let him know. Translation: "I'm not taking responsibility for this and really don't care because it's outside of my scope - besides, I'm friends with all those people and don't want to be the bad guy!". As a loyal Hy-Vee customer, all I want to hear is: "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, sir and will talk with my counterpart in the food section to address the problem." In the 2 times since, we've experienced the same problem. I've spoken to a manger each time and it's as if it's the first time they've heard of it. The managers are all generally the same age/generation as the workers and a culture of fraternization between the 2 seems to be the normal. I always see them 'smokin n jokin' together. These managers don't seem to have received any leadership training on working relationships between subordinate and boss - and if they have, it isn't being followed. Last night we dealt with a female working behind the checkout counter at the food section and acted as if she was inconvenienced by having to check us out. She rang everything up and didn't ask for my Hy-Vee fuel saver card, so I asked her if I could put this in before the transaction processed. She said it was too late and that I would have to talk with customer service to have it added later. Again, no accountability or apology on her part - just putting it off on someone else and not taking responsibility. Beyond that, she stood behind the register looking bored the entire time we were eating. In the meantime, some of those coveted booths opened up after the employees occupying them went back to work. The table surfaces had crumbs, food and trash left on them and she never once went to clean them in the 20 minutes we took to finish our meals. In the end, I think Hy-Vee is a wonderful store and has the right infrastructure in place to be "the" place to shop. People like us who live close and enjoy the atmosphere of Hy-Vee pay a premium to shop there and expect a tradeoff in what has customarily been superior customer service, great produce, fresh food, and a clean/safe store to shop. However, this particular location seems to have a real problem with it's management not taking their roles seriously from a customer service standpoint. As a manager, you are responsible for everything that occurs in your store - regardless of whether it's "in your lane" or not. As a customer, if I take the time to address a problem in your store that causes me displeasure or inconvenience, it should be taken seriously and responded to with an accountable tone. The inner-workings of the management infrastructure should be transparent to me as the customer. As a manger, you represent the store as a whole and are supposed to be the problem solver. Make the customer feel as if you value their patronage! I really hope these issues get addressed because we would love to continue our patronage of this store. However, as of now we won't be returning to Hy-Vee at Grand Prairie anytime soon. We'll drive a little further and spend our hard earned money somewhere else that values their customers a little more. read more

Awful food at the market and grille. Decided to give another try after they messed up my meal a couple months ago. We ordered 3 meals tonight and 2/3 were completely messed up and the third meal we couldn't even eat the side. The girl messed up our order as she took it, waited forever to get our food, we get home and the order is wrong, chicken was way over cooked and burgers were raw, side roll was rock hard and not even edible so we couldn't even eat any of our dinner. For the price you pay for these entrees, it is absolutely not worth it! I will NOT be back, and do not recommend. read more

I've read some of the other reviews on here and completely disagree. Compared to all other Peoria grocery stores, this one is by far superior! The produce is fresh and often comes from US growers. The deli/bakery/cheese departments carry a good variety. The meats are fresh every time I'm there, which is weekly. And their prices are not higher, especially if you use their online coupons. And the organic section is a small store within a store. The employees are always friendly and helpful. I'm love this Hyvee and am glad they opened!!!! read more

This is my go-to grocery store! Love the hours and the location. The staff is always very friendly and will help find everything I'm looking for. They will speak up even if you don't need help which makes me seem welcome. The deli girls are always helpful and cashiers are usually fast. I love this hyvee! read more

We grew up on HyVee as Iowans and were thrilled when we moved to Peoria to have a HyVee close to us. This store, however, disappoints on a number of levels. 1) Gas prices are routinely 50 cents higher on premium fuel than the Casey's across the mall complex. We stopped buying gas at HyVee and will never buy gas again from a HyVee anywhere because this is price gouging, plain and simple. 2) The Market Grill is awful. We have eaten there several times and on multiple occasions were given free meals, complimentary desserts or a gift card because our food was so terrible, cold or delayed. Tonight, we decided to try again only to find the menu item we wanted is no longer available. We ordered custom breakfast skillets instead. Horrible, just horrible. We would rather eat at IHOP. We are done with Market Grill. 3) There is NEVER enough of the Diet Coke flavor we buy. I have complained several times, have had to return to claim multiple rain checks and even stopped the Coke rep while he was stocking the aisle. He told me they only stock 4 cases of the flavor in question because nobody buys it. If no one buys it but me, why is it ALWAYS out of stock? You have access to more metrics than I can count, but you somehow cannot track the sales of your Coke products. 4) Pharmacy staff is lovely. But, the store doesn't routinely stock my medicines. I now have to ask for refills a week in advance on one of my meds because sometimes it takes that long for the to get it in stock. It isn't a rare medicine! 5) The HyVee app is awful. It always has been and each new version is worse that the last. So given HyVee has been part of our lives for more than four decades, we now find ourselves saying "HyVee failed us again" nearly every single time we walk into the store. read more

We were very surprised by this place. The food was a little too expensive considering this is a grocery store's restaurant. Luckily, we went on a half-off appetizers night! Naturally, we got all appetizers and they were surprisingly very good. The food tasted fresh (as it should, I mean, it's attached to a grocery store!) and tasted great as well. You could actually taste the freshness of each ingredient. The service was good too, our server (Parrihun, I think??!) was super attentive and kept checking up on us. We did tip 20% but I feel like we should've actually given more. Not sure if we'll be back because the original prices of the dishes were expensive and it is out of our way. But if we lived closer, we'd definitely stop by more! read more

My husband and I have had breakfast at the Market Grille several times now. We've each ordered different items and without exception the breakfasts were wonderful: not only did they taste delicious, the presentations on the plates made the breakfast experiences even more delightful. A 5 star restaurant tucked away in the Hy-Vee store...who knew! read more

The store has plentiful options. Couldn't give a high rating because I was charged incorrectly for at least 3 items in my checkout. Customer service was quick to fix this, but it shouldn't happen in the first place. Especially when overcharged!! read more

We decided to go here because my special needs uncle wanted one of their tenderloins as we'd been few times in the past. The first thing we noticed was the new menu they had, and of course the tenderloin was removed. So now my uncle and husband both had to figure out what they wanted to eat. After searching we all ordered. The hamburger that was ordered to be well came out medium rare or so, the center was very pink. The chicken that came on the pasta dish was very chewy like it had been reheated one to many times. I ordered a chicken sandwich and asked to have cheese added. The waitress brought out all of our food while I had stepped away from the table. When I said something to her about there being no cheese, her reply was "I noticed it wasn't on there, we can bring it out to you or take it back and redo it". Since I wanted the cheese melted in my hot chicken (as that was the point) I opted for a redo. She took the sandwich back, and instead of a redo, they topped it and put it in microwave. She brought it back out, I took one bite and was actually unable to bite through the chicken. When the manager came by, I showed them where it was inedible and you couldn't even cut it with a knife. My mother in-law's quesadilla was good as were the fries that came with the 2 sandwich . For being the only table in the restaurant for a late lunch, I expected food we could eat. With these new changes, we won't be coming back. read more

I do not like the formal seating format. The casual atmosphere they use to have was so much nicer for a quick stop for something to eat before or after doing my shopping. I now go somewhere else to eat when I shop at Hy Vee. read more

Service was good, seemed that we had 3 different people. Little pricey but actually normal for the area. Burger was good, but the steak was burnt. Inside was cooked perfect, the outside of the steak had no flavor except being charred. read more

From the general staff lacking in basic knowledge of inventory and services offered, (as well as in customer service skills), all the way up to the dismissive store managers (including Noah), I and my family (4 households living in the North Peoria, Dunlap and Princeville areas) are very disappointed in the new Hy-Vee, Grand Prairie location. After a 3 week run-around (at the new location) regarding a service that we appreciate and patronize at the Lake and Sheridan Hy-Vee store, we saw on-line that the Grand Prairie Hy-Vee "Now offers Wellness Wednesdays." However, when checking out with my "Wellness" items (at Grand Prairie), the assistant manager had to be called, because the cashier had no knowledge of "Wellness Wednesdays". When the assistant manager came he abruptly said, "We don't offer that." I showed him their on-line ad (on my phone), to which he said, "I don't know where that came from, but it is wrong." He said, "I will give you the 10% discount (today) but not again." I asked who I could complain to, and was basically "shown the door"...He said, "Just go out the door and put "a suggestion in the suggestion box out there." I did that and followed up with an e-mail to Noah, the store manager, who called and said, "We fired the company that (erroneously) placed that ad"...as if that was of "value" to me as a customer! My family and I are back to shopping at the Hy-Vee store at Lake and Sheridan in Peoria, where the service is great, we feel valued as customers and our business is appreciated! read more

Staff has horrible attitudes. This store may be new but there is nothing really special about it. When you staff a nicer place with complete tools the place starts to go downhill fast. Good riddance in advance read more

This is hands down one of my favorite places in Peoria. I live very close and my husband and I come to market grille often. We have tried just about everything on the menu and have never had even a sub-par meal! The wings, particularly the sweet chili, are so delicious- especially when you're taking advantage of the bottomless wings and fries deal! The burgers are gourmet and cooked to perfection. The jalapeño and bacon maple wontons are something I crave daily. The bartenders and staff are always fun and friendly and the ambiance of the restaurant makes it cozy, sophisticated, and comfortable. In particular, our server tonight Chris, was so sweet, hilarious, and very attentative. He was so generous, personable, and quick. As I'm typing this I'm enjoying a delicious Moscow mule and one of their many daily specials. After I'm done, I'm going to go grocery shopping with a little buzz in the attached grocery store. What more could you ask for?! read more
