Oakland Road has just been elevated from two stars by the opening of brand new Wine & Spirits and Health Market sections. Not only is the selection bigger and better but the vibe feels like an entirely different store. The second Wednesday of every month is the 10% off paper bag sale. Like many others, this is my favorite Hyvee in CR. We go to this one over two closer locations. The customer service is great, the aisles are usually immaculate and the selection isn't lacking. I don't think I've been here without being met with a smile or helpful comment by at least a couple of workers. If you're a gourmet cheese fan, go see Chris in the cheese area of the Deli. He's sent us on a couple of great adventures. It's not the cheapest in town, but I certainly am pleased with enough aspects to frequent them. read more

This is, by far, my favorite Hy Vee in CR. (Before the remodel a year ago, Edgewood Rd. had that place on my list.) This store is large enough to carry everything I need and then some, while being small enough that I don't have to walk 3 miles to get my groceries. And they will special order anything else. But let's get to the important part: Chinese. Express. Generally, I think Hy Vee Chinese food is at best bland and at worst, gross. But this Chinese Express is run by a manager who will make his own recipes when you ask. I'm in there at least once every week requesting spicy tofu and vegetable stir fry and I have never been disappointed. The texture is perfect, and the sauce is excellent. They also have veggie egg rolls for when I'm in a hurry or just want a snack before grocery shopping. Also, for any light eaters/vegetarians/vegans out there: the fruit on the salad bar is always out early in the morning, and the Kitchen will make you hashbrowns with vegetables if you ask. I like this store and shop here often but don't buy very much. The service is great and there are plenty of tasty foods but the prices are higher than a cat's back. A can of soup I regularly buy at the store with the red bulls eye costs $.79 but at this chain is $1.59. Mainly I just buy the sale items. I don't often purchase meat here - much of the beef and pork is Hormel and injected with 12% "flavoring solution"... For the same money, I prefer to go to meat lockers and get the good stuff. The artisan breads are very good but a little too pricey for me. The same goes for the deli - tasty food but too expensive. This is a beautiful store with many wonderful foods to choose from. I just wish it was more affordable. read more

This Hy-Vee is my favorite!! I like the layout, the aisles are wider, its very clean, and has great employees. Their cheese department has the widest variety I've ever seen, and their produce department is great too. I really like how the whole building was renovated to be eco friendly, with floors that absorb spills and motion sensor lights. Keep up the great work! read more

I've lived near this Hy-Vee for about 3 years but continued to go to the Edgewood Hy-Vee because they had a better and larger selection, after the renovations though the only reason that I go to Edgewood is if I need to do some shopping after midnight or I need better Health Market selection, since the Oakland rd local isn't open after midnight and has a small Health Market selection. So far the renovations have been great, the selection in the main store is really good, however the health market is still lacking and I hope to see it get larger. read more

This is my favorite HyVee. However, I have written to the store director and expressed my consternations. He tried to placate me. Like, honestly, I want HyVee to thrive, but overpriced food that tastes like it has been in a freezer and subjected to moth balls does not cut it in my book. Here are my thoughts that are cross-posted: New Pi Co-Op vs. Hy-Vee (Chicago people: Whole Foods vs. Dominick's/The Jewel) The perception is that the New Pi is pricier than Hy-Vee. This is true to a certain extent and depends on the item you buy and the quality you seek. 1. Eggs: The price of the eggs I buy (cage free) is less at New Pi than Hy-Vee. 2. Honeycrisp Apples: Hy-Vee's tasted like gasoline last year. Not the case at New Pi. 3 Ready-to-eat lettuce: Hy-Vee purchased is usually gooey the minute you bring it home. This is not the case at New Pi. Plus, the price is the same. 4. Onions: The onions at Hy-Vee started tasting like refrigeration. This is the same problem I've run into with Trader Joe's eggs and produce. 5. Organic spaghetti sauce: $1.99-$2.99 at New Pi. The same as - if not less than - Prego/Ragu at Hy-Vee. 6. Spaghetti Noodles: $1.99/package at New Pi. Hy-Vee usually has deals for $1.00. However, I am not going to split my shopping trip for a dollar. Granted, Hy-Vee has a little more variety from GMO to organic. I love its values of employee owned and great benefits. Its cheese section is better. However, if I am buying a GMO product or pesticide product, could the taste not be refrigeration or gasoline? If I do choose those products, could they make it worth my while to bear through it and be significantly less pricey? No; Hy-Vee has not chosen this path. So, I will choose to spend the same or $1-$2 more at New Pi - depending on the item - so I don't have to deal with the frustration of feeling like I lost money. read more

While Hy Vee has a decent amount of variety the pricing is way out of sight. Sometimes easily $1.00 to $2.00 more. No wonder they have all these gimmicks including the gas card. The produce seems to hang around longer on the shelf than normal having experienced spoiled oranges in prepackaged items as an example. As stuff gets older don't see price going down. No offense to the lady who makes it because she can only work with what she is given, but the sushi is absolutely bad. I recommend don't buy that here. Employees are nice but some, not all, management not so nice. I do go to Hy Vee for some things I can't get elsewhere, otherwise generally go to Walmart but they don't always have the variety. However, they aren't exactly cheap anymore but overall remain way less expensive than Hy Vee. If your careful their produce is pretty good. By the way we need a Trader Joe's in this town. Finally, there breakfast menu is excellent. read more

I used to avoid this Hyvee but since the remodel...I now avoid the others. Wednesday's have $5.50 all you can eat chinese. It was much better than many of the other buffets in town but cheaper. Since the remodel they also have sushi and a pretty sweet wine and spirits section. read more

Do not order flowers from EVA's Flowers (operated by Hy-Vee in disguise). I ordered flowers which were expensive and promise to be delivered on-time for my sister's birthday. They failed to deliver, then refused to reverse the credit card charge. I am in Oregon and can't do much in Marion, but I can stongly recommend against this company. They would not last a month around here -- very poor customer service. (I was born and raised in Iowa, and spent a lot of money with Hy_vee, but never again). read more
