I cannot emphasize enough the importance of keeping local businesses open and thriving, but I will humbly step off my soap box, and continue on to share my love for this beautiful business. As I get off the train from San Francisco and search up local restaurants, I come across Cornucopia, a hybrid business model that has both a deli and a market with great prices and a bigger selection than most stores I have seen. With curiosity in my head, and a growling stomach, I set off to walk the entire 3 minutes it takes to get to Cornucopia from the train station. I need not say the location of this place is great. The moment I walk in, I am greeted by both the delicious smell of Indian food as well as a nice woman by the name of Susan Lyon. She tells me that this is not only a family run business, but a business run by all women, and Susan (with her husband) are the founders. After our greetings and conversation, I walk to the deli where they had a fine selection of foods from sandwiches to curries. I order the coconut curry (a popular dish, from the words of the man working there) with turmeric rice, and a cup of coffee. I cannot understate the amount of flavor it has, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot do spicy food. I also see their selection of bulk spices, frozen meals, supplements, and everyday use items like toothpaste and shampoos. I walked out with a smile on my face, and as the cold Illinois wind hits me I feel longing to go back to the warmth of Cornucopia once again, but my train was to leave soon. I enjoyed every moment of this business, and I will always hope that they expand their business to California. If you ever are visiting Galesburg, Illinois, please make sure to go here. You will be pleasantly surprised by this humble family business. I had a very frustrating experience at the Kroger money order desk involving an employee named…read morePamela. This was not the first time I have had an issue getting assistance from her; it was the third time I came in for a money order and felt like I was being avoided rather than helped. When I arrived, Pamela was standing near the lottery machines, but another employee told me it would be about 30 minutes because she was supposedly on break. I waited, and eventually left to try Walmart instead. Walmart's money order machine was not working, so I returned to Kroger about 30 minutes later, expecting to finally be helped. Unfortunately, when I came back, I still had to wait another 15 minutes along with another customer. By that point, I had spent close to an hour trying to complete something that should have taken only a couple of minutes. My girlfriend encouraged me to stay calm and polite, which I tried to do. When Pamela finally came to the desk, her attitude was rude and unwelcoming. She gave me a smirk and said, "What do you need?" in a way that did not feel professional or respectful. I simply explained that I needed a money order and had been waiting for almost an hour. The interaction quickly became tense, even though I was only asking for help with a basic service. The security employee witnessed the situation and apologized to me afterward, saying that Pamela's behavior was out of line. I appreciated that acknowledgment, but customers should not have to wait that long or feel disrespected when trying to use a service the store offers. Kroger management should review how customer-service coverage is handled at this location and address the repeated issues with this employee's professionalism. Shoppers deserve timely, courteous help--especially for a quick transaction like a money order. I hope this feedback leads to better service for everyone who shops here.

It's a small place that packs a huge punch of goodies. Some of the meats can be a little pricey, but they do have specials from time to time.
