We were all sitting around chatting when the hostess brought out a bowl of almonds for us to snack on. Let me tell you. That was perhaps the BEST moment of the whole potluck! We finished a 2 lb. bag of almonds ($13) in roughly 45 minutes. Ridiculous right? But trust me, once you start, you won't be able to stop either. Anyway, it's been six months since I've started ordering In-Shell Almonds Salted from Cindy at Nunes Farms, and I have yet to be disappointed. I typically speak with Cindy; she's extremely friendly and helpful, so ask for her if you can! If you're not an almond lover, don't be shy. Nunes Farms sells other goodies and snacks too, like chocolate, toffee, pistachios, etc.

In my case, certain cuts were missing, there was no inventory list provided, & no communication regarding missing items or substitutions prior to shipment. When I reached out via email to resolve the issue, there was no meaningful effort to reconcile the discrepancies--no offer to replace the missing cuts, no partial refund, and not even a modest discount on a future purchase. The response amounted to a brief apology without resolution. Due to the lack of accountability, communication, and customer service, I will NOT be doing business with this company again.

So, as you're driving down the I-5 and looking for a place to get delicious sandwiches, this is the perfect spot! And, while you're there, stock up on wide variety of handcrafted sausages, brats, beef sticks, bacon, marinated meats, dry rubs and more! We brought an insulated bag with ice packs to put them in. We grabbed some for family we were visiting in Sacramento and stopped again on our way back home to stock up. We tried the Brisket and Ribeye sandwiches. The bread got soft fast, maybe a little too soft. They were both hot sandwiches so not sure if it was from a little too much bbq sauce, juices from the meat or how it's wrapped. The brisket and ribeye were tender and juicy. I liked the Ribeye a little more since it had mushrooms, bell peppers and onion. I would have liked the bread to be more toasty since we ate the sandwiches there. But, that's my preference; I love more texture in my food. Loved the variety of sausages, brats and beef sticks that we got. The bacon was a lot thinner than we're used to. We bought lots of their dry Wolfsen's seasoning since it's one of my bf's favorites! I loved that the beef sticks that weren't too oily and very tasty. I wish we had gotten more of them! The sausages were so flavorful!! We tried them in a variety of dishes. We really liked the Smoked Blueberry Bratwurst, Smoked Andouille Sausage, Smoked Chuckwagon sausage, Cajun Style Smoked Sausage and Smoked German Pork Sausage.

I happened to glance over to the space formerly occupied by Skraps, the doggie boutique (R.I.P.). I noticed a sign for Stewart & Jasper Orchards Company Store. I headed on over to see what this new store had to offer. They had display upon display of glazed & seasoned nuts, gourmet chocolate almonds, dried fruit, preserves & fruit sauces and bread dipper oil & vinegar. They also had some really nice gift baskets with the above mentioned offerings. I was told that this location in McHenry Village is temporary, just for the holiday season. I purchased some pistachios and a peach pepper sauce that can be served over cream cheese as a spread for crackers or bread. The pasta is cooked in an open kitchen right behind the counter as you order. Pretty neat to be able to watch them make your order. Ordered the Volcanic Fettuccine because who doesn't like a spicy Italian dish right? Got it in a bread bowl with added chicken so cost was just shy of 20 bucks because of the upgrades. Didn't end up eating on site because it was really close to closing time for them and didn't want to be "that guy" so took my order home. The fettuccine was really good, cooked well, and the sauce was actually spicy. Not as spicy as I was hoping it would be, but it did have a nice kick. I'd definitely have it again. Overall, nice family run place with home made pasta. Would have ordered a pizza, but they ran out of pizza dough, since it is house made they don't have any extra in the fridge/freezer like you'd expect at a lot of places.
