Most importantly, my wife enjoys it much more than the gyms and training we've tried in the past, which helps us stick to the regiment. It's quite different from the Tae Kwon Do I've studied in the past, so I'm having fun learning completely new things, exercising with various hand weapons, as well as applying the movement to what I've learned before. The instruction is very personalized, and there's a good rotation of instructors from the region and nationally, each of whom emphasize a different aspect of training. They are very knowledgeable about different customizations to help you with stengths, weaknesses, abilities, and goals. My chronic lower back pain has all but disappeared over the past year, my bicycling form and comfort has improved, and my wife has better circulation for hiking and fewer headaches.

This system combines eight traditional martial arts into one complete training system that provides the most comprehensive conditioning of any martial arts style. The 8 taught as 1 system also includes powerful self-defense that can be immediately effective in real situations. Oom Yung Doe training is suitable for adults and children, and people of any condition - you don't need to be in good shape to get started. In fact, it is common for people with pain or injuries from other activities to fully recover over the course of their Oom Yung Doe training. The 8 taught as 1 training system includes: Kong Su (Tae Kwon Do), Kung Fu, Ai Ki Do/Hap Ki Do, Udo (Jiu-Jitsu), Tai Chi, Bagwa, 18 Weapons, Kom Do (Samurai Sword).

After the tournament in British Columbia, I decided to join TKD classes under Master Hufana's guidance. Over time, I also did some training with him on Traditional Arnis, a Filipino martial art known for its focus on weapon-based fighting techniques. Traditional Arnis emphasizes not only physical combat skills but also mental discipline and strategic thinking. In 2004, my life took a different turn as I was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the US Army. It was during this challenging period that the philosophy of martial arts, instilled by Master Hufana and the training experiences, became invaluable. The principles of martial arts such as tactics, alertness, preparedness, survival skills, fitness, and the code of the Samurai served as guiding lights in navigating the complexities of a war zone. The teachings of honesty, loyalty, respectfulness, and maintaining integrity at all times resonated deeply with me as I faced adversity in Afghanistan. The discipline instilled through martial arts training helped me to stay focused, resilient, and true to my martial arts values even in the most challenging circumstances.Master Hufana's philosophy not only enriched my understanding of martial arts but also equipped me with valuable life lessons that transcended the boundaries of combat sports. The fusion of Eastern martial arts philosophy with Western military service exemplifies the universal applicability and timeless wisdom embedded in martial arts traditions. With respect, MK-Samurai 2024.

I later signed up for their six-week level one women's self defense seminar, which was a great decision. The class size was small with personalized feedback and interaction. I am excited to keep building on my learnings, as I am now taking the six-week level two self defense seminar. I recommend checking out Oom Yung Doe's classes! The instructors are knowledgeable and really care.

These schools focus on the healing knowledge of martial arts as opposed to the breaking knowledge of martial arts. Yes, you can still learn some very strong self-defense, but the point is to improve yourself and then improve the people and communities around you. The instructors are all very genuine and caring and the knowledge passed is very deep. The training combines movements from all east asian styles of martial arts, along with herbs and meditation. There is also philosophy passed, such as not hurting others and being true to your inner self. Oom Yung Doe offers many different training programs. You can train towards your black belt in moo doe, you can train in one particular style, you can take a short-term or a longer-term program, or you can take a conditioning program designed to develop one particular aspect of your self (such as strength, flexibility, core development, jumping ability, etc.). There are also conditioning programs that will help to resolve physical, mental, or emotional issues - these programs use herbs, pressure points, and simple movements and are very effective. You can also enroll your children in either regular classes or in special programs designed to boost their abilities in sports or other athletics. Overall, this place is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting or staying healthy and strong.

Super friendly and they learned more than just martial art. Master Kwon taught them how to respect others and listen to parents. Then Master Kwon moved away for a bit (a couple years). I did hear he came back and decided to enroll my kids to his class again. Kids are happy to attend his class again and relearning what they forgot. Master Kwon is sincere and cares about what his students are learning from his class. I highly recommend this place for you or your children.

My son ended up joining and his friend didn't, which was kind of funny since he was the one who suggested it. As my son continued, I thought it looked like so much fun so I joined in too. Master Kwon and Instructor Kwon is a husband and wife team and they are so kind and nice. They push the kids to be respectful, focused, confident and kind. They are true role models for these kids as well as the adults. They are also very precise and position their students exactly where their hands need to be and where their foot placement should be. They also build up the kids confidence, and it's like night and day. We have watched so many kids grow from these shy and almost meek kids into confident and strong children. The great thing as well is that they don't teach the kids to "fight". They teach them self defense, respect, kindness and discipline. They have a 5 stripe system where the kids can earn a trophy at each belt test if they do 5 tasks. 1) read 14 books, 2) do 10 chores a day for 60 days, 3) teacher sign off for their schooling, 4) testing for their form and 5) parent sign off of their papers to get the last stripe. And that last stripe is a goal that the parents can set for their kids. It's a great system and it makes sure that the kids study, are kind to their teachers and other kids at school, they do their chores at home, and are respectful to their parents and siblings. My son even started doing competitions which he didn't want to do at first. After some encouragement by myself and the Kwons, he finally decided to enter into a competition. He was really nervous at first, but now after 2 competitions under his belt, he has built up a lot of confidence and is now excited to continue entering into more competitions. I can't say enough about Master and Instructor Kwon. They are so nice, kind and sweet. They are very inspiring and our lives are so much better from learning from their example.
