I love this salon! When I first moved to Vegas, I asked around for recommendations but soon realized not many are good with Asian hair. I found someone else on Yelp prior to this and she was fine for a few months. On the last visit, I waited a half hour past my scheduled appointment. That was the final thing of many other things I felt could have been better so it was time for me to move on. I found Nina through another recommendation. Since I found Vietnamese people to be very good with any beauty service, I was excited to try her. I'm happy to have finally found my hair stylist! Met Huy over a year ago at LOOK at Town Square after my stylist of 10+ years left town without so much as a goodbye. Fast forward to now. Was reluctant to follow him to Chinatown bc of the distance & the roads are awful, people can't drive and parking can be difficult. But I did. Driving from Seven Hills isn't ideal but...his shop is easily accessible and convenient to other merchants I frequent so it worked out. I am super particular about my hair and who I allow to work with it, with specific product requests & demands - I know what works for my hair after years of trial & error - and while Huy doesn't use all the things (can I have Guys Big 9 bleach, please?) the colors are fab and my blonde ends up being low maintenance... for me. Poor technique and unsafe approach. The stylist did not use proper scissor over comb and did not understand the concept of parting hair to create a symmetrical reference. Throughout the cut he was coughing behind his mask which was unpleasant and concerning knowing he is a heavy smoker. Owner was super rude during my visit. I do not normally write bad reviews coz I understand how important reputation is to any business. However, as a customer, not only i felt mistreated, but also felt humiliated and belittled as a female. I walked in trying to be friendly and asked some questions regarding my potential treatments, expecting to make an appointment. the owner Huy didn't take care of my needs and tried first to brush me off then to ignore me, he even walked away in the middle of the so called consultation, left me feeling super awkward standing in the middle of the salon. When the lady saw it and tried to help, Huy yelled at her and asked her to take care of her coloring on another customer. I understand where he came from, however, there was no need to yell. To make her feel better, i jokingly said, don't blame her, she was trying to help, i like her more than you! I guess what i said hurt Huy's pathetic yet huge ego by jokingly choosing my preference. At that moment, he stared at me with a super mean look and rudely asked me to leave. I couldn't believe what happened at the moment and i was so scared as if he was gonna attack me. I simply said thank you and left the salon, feeing bad for the girl and myself. When i finally calmed down, I started to think this whole experience, the way Huy treated me was wrong on so many levels. He even stated that "you are going to sue me", "i don't trust you" right when i was trying to get my questions cleared. And the whole time I was trying to be patient and friendly and assured that i won't it's my choice, i could even sign a waiver if that makes him feel better. I wonder how Huy can be in service industry with this kind of attitude and such low EQ. I took my business else where, did multiple treatments with another gentlemen as i expected at Huy Salon and was super happy with the experiences and results. I guess Huy salon was not meant to be. I would absolutely not go back to Huy Salon ever again and would not recommend anyone to go there. They greet regulars like friends and there are also quite a number of walk ins. Making an appointment is super easy. My mom is a retired hair stylist, and she also retired from cutting my hair. With high expectations now having to pay for haircuts, I have been in search for years of my go-to salon here in Vegas that gives good haircuts and didn't cost an arm and a leg each time. I really wanted to like this salon from seeing the 5-star Google reviews and hoped that they lived up to those reviews. When I called to make an appointment, I was told by Huy that his salon went through a renovation for a week before I came in on a Monday 6/3/24. The salon looked like it had new stainless steel stations with large, tall mirrors, large grey tiled floor, and black chairs. Huy was quite busy taking care of odds and ends when I came in at 11:18am. Unfortunately, I did not get the service that I was expecting from Huy Salon. I was hoping that Huy would cut my hair, but Huy gave Amy my appointment for services. I told Amy that I wanted to have a long Bob cut while showing her an example picture and asked for very little layering at the ends to keep the hair from curling outwards and to color in my half-inch of grey roots. I also told Amy that I cut my own bangs for years, and I did so on Saturday because I had an event to go to on Sunday, and it was just too long. Amy acknowledged what I requested and said that she would do the coloring first and then the haircut afterward. Amy showed me the color sample and suggested the medium brown. The coloring turned out well, but that's just roots. I definitely could have done my own root touch-up had I known what I would be charged for it. After the coloring, Amy proceeded to cut my hair. I showed her the picture again because about an hour had passed. She acknowledged that I wanted very little layering since it's a long Bob cut. Amy showed me the length by pulling hair from the back and putting her scissors at a spot in which I wanted, and I said it was a good length. About 30 minutes in, she was cutting my hair and seemed to focus on my right side more. Then she didn't seem to know how to section off my bangs with the comb handle and made a side part... sorry, you don't give a person with short bangs a side part. I have to admit I made a huge mistake of having Amy curl my hair like in the picture because I wasn't even shown my finished haircut before that. And I may have been charged for curling my hair as well. So without seeing my finished haircut before curling, I found out after I washed my hair, that I got raggedy uneven ends, some random strands of my hair remained much longer than the rest of the cut areas, and I had to trim them off myself. I know, I should've taken a picture of it... Lastly, I was shocked by the price that was given when Amy consulted with Huy about the services that I had, root color, haircut, and curl. I was thinking, probably not more than $80, but he said $120!!! How could that be if the price card on the station said woman's haircut was $30 and up!?!? One lady after the next was leaving with $30-35 dollar haircuts that were shorter than mine... I reluctantly paid the $120 and even tipped Amy $10. I am a teacher, and I don't make a ton of money and I paid the amount, and Amy did put in her time and needs to earn a living. (2 stars) Lastly, I was going to make an appointment for my daughter, but after the results of my visit, I changed my mind and will not be returning either.
