Pretty decent burgers that definitely satisfy a burger craving. Chips were pretty good, could have more salt. However tomato sauce was supplied on the benches. The restaurant is pretty packed at lunch time so be prepared for a longer than average wait. There is not too much seating but it is not too hard to claim a seat while waiting. Hidden away, this place is great if you are after a simple, easy to eat burger. We both got chipotle fries and THE HOT burger, must say the burger was more amazing than the fries. Burgers and Beer. Put these two little words pretty much anywhere and I'll be there. So after a little bit of playing the Melbourne Laneway Maze game the glowing neon sign beckoned us forth. "HOT BEEF. COLD BEER" Yay! We quickly stepped inside out of the cold Melbourne night, and the amount of people crammed into the small space soon warmed us up. It was about 8 PM so it wasn't as busy as I had heard it gets in here, but not wanting to risk a rush squeezing in out of nowhere we placed our burger order (Sondra tofu burger for Leisha T and a Theo meat-fest for yours truly) and grabbed a couple of beers from the great selection then expected to have to huddle in a corner, eating over our plates after discovering no free stools anywhere. By the time our burgers were ready (which wasn't long at all) half of the the people inside had left and we grabbed a seat easily. The burger was phenomenal. Juicy, cheesy, messy, meaty, tasty! I was looking forward to trying out the burgers here based on previous reviews but was a little disappointed. I wouldn't say the huxtaburger was the best burger I've tried lately, but to be fair I've had some delicious ones recently. I really liked the chipotle fries though and the Coopers ale was refreshing. The selection of music is eclectic, from rap to instrumental jazz, a bit odd. Anyway I suppose one wouldn't really linger here, the bar type stools are fixed & not comfy. They do have free WiFi so that's a plus. read more

So yeah, I came to Melbourne on vacation and I was brought here. Here to Huxtaburger. How did it compare to the burgers that I've had in the states? Very well, very very well indeed. I ordered a Huxtaburger and a Vale IPA and after I finished the burger I was still hungry and because I enjoyed the burger....I ordered two more. One time at the joint and I got three burgers. Well worth it. The locale was nice and quaint. It was a tad busy but not overwhelming. We were able to find seats just fine. The crew was very ice. Upon ordering I was told the total and because I don't know the money too well the gentleman that was helping me walked me through which coins to use. Very nice and very helpful. Those are major bonuses for me. The burgers were a good balance of meat, cheese and vegetables. Cooked more than my liking as I usually like my burgers rare but I'm not going to knock the burger based on that as the burger was still incredibly juicy. It's just a minor gripe for a great burger. The beer selection is quite limited to what I'm used to and it didn't help that I don't know Australian beers too well so I was totally willing to try what I haven't had. I went with the Vale IPA because I'm a major fan of IPAs. It was good but nothing special. I wish they had a wider selection but I'm just happy they offered beer so I was a happy chap. Restroom was clean too. That's usually a major sign to determine the cleanliness of the institution. If the restroom is clean then the rest of the place is going to be clean too. Would I come back to Huxtaburger when I come back to Melbourne? Yes I will. Arguably the best burger place I've had in the land down under. Come here and enjoy the meal. I'm always up for a good burger and was not disappointed. A small place and not real easy to find, but worth the search. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. No refills on soft drinks and expect that they'll come small (at least compared to what we're used to in the U.S.). Would definitely come back! read more

I got the bills burger and loved it so much. There was a lot of mayo, but that's about the only downside I can think of sitting here writing this, whistfully staring at my empty plate. If your gonna get a bills burger, get a caramel milkshake or the experience isn't complete. read more

Love Huxtaburger and now there's one in the CBD, which is way more convenient for me than taking a trip to the one in Collingwood. I get the spicy Denise (with Srirarcha mayo and pickled jalapenos) pretty much every time, but sometimes I'll make my own custom burger (extras like beetroot and pineapple are only 50c each!). It's an American style fast food burger done really well. Given the quality, the price is actually pretty good ($8.50 for the plain standard and $11.50 for the one with The Lot). The only reason I'm not giving five stars is 'cause the patties can be kinda inconsistent. Usually they're juicy and perfect and but sometimes they get overcooked which makes the burger taste more like processed fast food. They still taste great, but not as amazing as they can be. I was visiting Melbourne from Los Angeles (where you can throw a stone and hit ten good burger places blind). Visited this place on a whim because of the positive reviews. I was unimpressed by this place. The trendy music and hipster vibe just made it seem like they were trying too hard to be "cool". It would've worked all right if they also had really good food to back it up. Sadly they didn't. I don't know how the burger patties were prepared and seasoned, but the flavor was just not there. The fries (or chips as they're called over on this side of the pond) had the texture and flavour of fries made from powdered potatoes and frozen. No bueno. The only redeeming thing about the fries was the chipotle seasoning. It did NOT have that smokey chipotle flavour, but still tasted good. Another plus: the staff were incredibly nice. To summarize, if all you're looking for is good service, by all means try it out. However don't go there expecting a good burger. read more

On a laneway off Flinder's Ln, existed the closest thing to In-n-Out's double double that Australia has to offer (which has HUGE buns to fill). I grabbed the Theo and the lady had the Denise. Nothing to complain about on my Theo; 2 huge organic patties, bacon, cheese, super fresh veggies. Spicing was a bit off, where the Double-Double is always on, but overall a pretty tasty burger. Plus, it offer $1 fries and a pretty nice selection of craft beer. I don't really know what type of theme they're going for here; a mix of 60s American diner with modern references, i.e., a picture of Ice Cube on their soda machine. read more

The new boneless chicken and chips are awful. We LOVED the old chicken strips and were so disappointed with the new ones. They were gristly and one was raw/pink. I threw them out. Chips have been changed to crinkle cut and taste like something I could pull out of the freezer and pop in my oven. Hopefully the burgers are still the same and haven't been downgraded like the rest of the menu seems to have been. read more

The address on Yelp is not correct and Yelp mapping of this place was also poor. This place is tucked in an alleyway. Yelp maps was terrible in locating this place properly. I asked for their signature hamburger medium rare. They complied, were courteous and when the burger came out it was actually medium rare which is not very common these days. Congrats to them on that. Are the burgers fantastic. Not really but mine was good,cooked well and the sauce made the hamburger tasty. I'd heard nothing but good things about Huxtaburger and, staying nearby on a trip home to Melbourne, decided to check this place out. Meh, at best. I had the Clair burger and was easily the worst chicken burger I've had in recent memory. Chicken was greasy and nothing like what you'd expect from a half-decent, crispy, fried chicken burger. I can see it working if the chicken was better - the coleslaw and jalapeño mayo definitely had potential to pull a nice combo together. My wife had the Huxtaburger which was a passable cheeseburger. Again, definitely edible but nothing to go nuts about. The place itself lacks ambience and the staff have mastered the tight-lipped-dead-eyes when you say, "Hi", which is always nice :/ Charisma and friendliness never killed anyone, haircut. The chips were good and the chipotle chips great, so that's a plus. I'm assuming it was an off night (that cost me $30+) so would check it out again at a push, but definitely underwhelming. read more

What better noshing than diner-style burgers and fries before your (first ever) AFL game?? After much confusion, my dining party and I finally found the after-hours entrance to this establishment and proceeded on staring around in awe at the sheer quantity of people who were steadily packing themselves into such a small space. And rightly so. I ordered the Theo burger, a double patty with bacon and all the fixin's (as did El Hub), whilst my friends went with the Bills burger, a single patty with beetroot and pineapple. In hindsight, I would have ordered another serving of fries, to at least dull my voracious appetite for potato product, but burger wise, this joint is a solid 4-stars. The ingredients are housed in a super-soft, almost steamed, sesame bun, truly reminiscent of the ones back home. If anyone's familiar with Five Guys from the US, I would say, its similar. However, the actual flavor of the beef is a bit lacking and should have gone with more fat content or seasoning. Regardless, it was delicious and I think you should go now and fulfill your beefy, cheesy, potato-ey dreams. read more
