Sam the owner actually is the one to cut your hair. He is a traditional barber and does a really nice job. I had an appointment and Sam took me immediately and I was in and out in about 20 minutes. From the barbers to the customers to the beauty shop filled with ladies getting their hair did; makes it a place where you can come and relate to somebody. Share experiences and help lift each other up in certain aspects. I always believed you may never know what you could learn by just listening in to a conversation at the shop! And that is what this barbershop is all about. I've seen this place from different views over the years. One story comes to mind. When I was in kindergarten, I was bullied. Like a lot of us maybe were. This bully would pour sand in my hair from the sandbox. He would do this to me everyday, and everyday I was down at the shop having to get my hair washed. After a week of this going on, my mom grew upset at having to take me everyday. So my barber gave me some advice that now is a life lesson; stick up for yourself! The next day in school at the sandbox. I confronted the boy and told him to leave me alone with a clinched fist and he never bothered me again! Now, being an adult I see what affects a barbershop like Kool Kutz with a rich culture of folks, can impact children and young adults of a community. It is essential for this place to be family friendly, so people can feel welcome to come socialize, encourage, teach and learn from one another. That is why Kool Kutz to me is such a staple in Mckeesport.
