You could come here looking to have a photograph of yourself drunken and naked expect for a pink cowboy hat on holiday in Benidorm framed and they wouldn't bat an eyelid! I haven't done that by the way that was merely a hypothetical example, honest. No framing job is too big or small for the Merchant Gate Gallery. They have a mind boggling array of frames available and can usually get your item framed in 5 days or less. As well as framing they can also clean and restore damaged oil paintings and accept commissions for artwork of any size, medium or subject matter! The original artwork which is exhibited for sale is local and contemporary and there are always a few pieces that catch my eye. In particular I love the work they sell by Fiona Wilson who is inspired by the 1950s, like myself! The Merchant Gate Gallery also stock a good range limited edition prints if you can fork out for an original piece.

Have you ever had a friend that screwed up?…read more I mean really screwed up? Not only did they crash your car but your dog was in the car at the time, and since your friend was drunk they had the dog driving. Car gone, dog dead and your pal asking for a beer next to the flaming wreckage complaining about your dog's inability to successfully negotiate reverse camber corners. In a similar scale - Framing Workshop really screwed up They were asked to frame a antique shawl by the wife. An antique Whitby Jet shawl that she has taken care of for over 35 years. We have carried it with us over oceans and kept it in pride of place, in every location we have inhabited. We decided to get the item framed to protect it and specifically asked for it to be pinned in the framed and hung over the backing. The colour of the backing board that they decided to use was grey and when we got it home, it sucked the colour out of the shawl and out of the room. So, I thought why not get the backing board changed out to a nice cream and present it to the wife. The local framer took it in and phoned me the next day. "They glued it". Sorry "They glued the whole thing". The front matt board was glued to the shawl. The antique shawl was completely glued to the backing board. It was not going to shift. Destroyed. Thank you very much. And we are never going near Framing Workshop ever again.

I have many things framed there at a very reasonable price.. For example me and my friend had the same picture to get framed, she went else where and payed £65 and I only payed £32.. Bargain.. I also saw a picture on pinterest of a box frame with an opening in the top so that you can post your old concert tickets in to display them.. They took on the challenge and made me one which I love, I still need to sort all my tickets out but when I have I will add a picture.. Oh also if you if you are in don't forget to look up, when I was collecting my frame I was chatting to the owner, I asked her what the weirdest thing she had framed was and she told me to look up.. Framed on the roof was a giant tunnocks tea cake from the opening ceremony of the commonwealth games.. Love it..
They have a great selection of frames including lots of colourful ones for kids prints / posters

I needed a card framed and had, as usual, left it till the last moment. The staff members were really friendly I was taken into the rear room that you can see from the front shop and they put my work on a table and had various frames etc. They make sure you are happy with the price and they are good at choosing mounts etc. The frames have definately finished off my work to make it look lovely although expensive it is good to have them in frames after the time you spend doing them. The customer service is great they give you a time scale and are good at letting you know when your product is ready mine were ready a few days earlier than expected. It is expensive but I have found it to be worth it as they really do make a difference.

This place has everything you could ever want in terms of craft, art and technical materials and I even find myself feeling all creative as I wander through its two floors. The thing that my mum raves about is the 'fill a box' which allows you to fill a rectangular box full of all different types and colours of card and paper to suit your needs. As long as the box closes then you get it all for £7.25 (or £5-odd for a smaller box). The concept is unique and it is the only place in the vicinity that I know of that does this. They also do a 'bonus card' - you get 10 points for every £1 you spend which you can later redeem against some of your favourite goodies. 1 point equals 1p so you are essentially getting 10% off every time you spend. My only qualm? The prices. A lot of their products could be found online on crafty websites for about half the price.
