Cat fish sandwich with lettuce and tomato still good
Carmen T.

Heading east on the I 40 we were looking for a good spot for breakfast, so I looked on Yelp and the reviews were good, so we drove down the road to go try it, when we got there we had just missed breakfast, we didn't want to drive around so we had Lunch. the food was hot and tasty my husband had the day special which was meatloaf, came with mashed potatoes, beans, and okra that we never had before, It was so delicious, I had the cat fish sandwich, which was amazing, the service was quick and the pretty waitress was very sweet. The people that were in there eating were very friendly. The place is just a simple eatery nothing fancy but great home cooking.

a cheeseburger and fries

Went a couple of miles off the highway after seeing some of the reviews - the burger and cheeseburger were totally worth it. Crispy tots, just-right fries. Our only disappointment: we couldn't handle burgers and southern cooking in the same visit. Generous portions, good prices (special includes burger, fries or tots and a drink; daily special like fries pork chops cokes with several sides), friendly service. Save room for dessert - we enjoyed the ice box lemon pie along the many options. Breakfast til 10:30 - full breakfast menu. We don't eat pork but bacon fans probably will want to try the loaded Big Joe Hash Browns (mirrors the Big Joe Burger for lunch). Current hours at 6-2 pm every day but Sunday. If you're there by 1:30-1:45 you should be fine.

Hurley House Cafe

The Hurley House had really good food. It's a small cafe with fresh food. I got the grilled chicken strips which were delicious. Homemade rolls too! Worth the drive.

Turkey Bacon Avocado with pepper Jack cheese on Sourdough

Friendly service and they don't skimp on the food. Had the Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich and it was filling. Great stop on Hwy 70. I bet the breakfast is solid.

I actually found this place through Yelp. It is 100% small town diner. I enjoyed it the waitresses are extremely nice and very attentive. The diners around me were friendly it was obvious I was not from around there, and they noticed. That was kind of cool. My only complaint and it's not the restaurants fault, as I ordered a hamburger because that's what I eat. The patties were promised to be huge and it was. The problem is that everyone is cooking their ground meat to well-done, and that makes for a big dry burger. That's not the diners fault I'm sure that's the law there. Looking at the other diner selections the food looked fantastic, I just chose poorly. Big upside is that they have tater tot's and very good tea. If I happen to be around there again I will most definitely find my way there again. You should too!

Me and my wife happened to find this hole in the wall while we were driving our rental car from Little Rock to Memphis. We were on vacation to make our first visit to Graceland during Elvis' annual January birthday celebration. We were hungry and it was pouring rain. We saw The Hurley House Cafe sign along the side of road, and even though we couldn't even see the building from the highway, we decided to stop there and eat. It was in the middle of nowhere, and with the rain and all it seemed like a scene from a creepy movie. In fact, we thought for sure we were going to hear Dueling Banjos from Deliverance at any moment! Once we finally got there, we were happy to find out that our waitress was very friendly. And when we both had cheeseburgers and found out they were very tasty and the price was right, our good dining experience was complete. We liked the place so much that we even bought a coffee mug! I don't know if we'll ever be back in Hazen, Arkansas, but if we are we just might have to stop by The Hurley House Cafe again!

Not like it used to be but still gets the job done. Can't go wrong with French toast in the morning. Delicious and not heavy on the stomach.

There is a segment in the restaurant community that does well by making the simple things you can…read moremake at home. There is not only nothing wrong with that, it is sometimes exactly what you need. Exotic flavor combinations and ingredients that aren't in your regular shopping cart is not what you want. A simple sandwich, BLT for her, Club for me, with crinkle cut fries gets the job done sometimes. It satisfies that 5th grader that lurks inside of all of us no matter how old we are. I also think the older we get, the more satisfied we are with safe, neutral flavors. A pinch of salt, the indication of a whisper of pepper, a patina of mayo. We were in town for my wife to visit a quilting cornerstone spot for her. We are retired now, and closer than we had been over in MD, so we hopped in the car and made a 3 day odessy, good time had by all. Our visit got off to a little of a rough start, [at the time an unexplained delay after tea delivery - the other staff could have taken the initiative of coming to take our order, but I don't know the internal dynamics here] however the young lady bounced back well, and there are no complaints on actual service or the food. I suspect it is quite popular with the locals, I see a lot of lofty praise in the reviews, and our hotel clerk recommended we try it.
